The Grind

WTF is up with some gamers now days having a problem with earning something? Especially when there is now the option to pay-to-win your way to the top if they want?
Spoiled? IDK
Sorry I came from the old days of EQ, now that was a grind.

Maybe some people just want to have fun playing a game without being at a competitive disadvantage because they didn't grind long enough.
If your desire to grind is so great that you don't see a purpose to playing games otherwise then you could just go play some Nexon games.

PEople don't want to buy 2 mechs they never wanted waste time to improve the one they wanted.
Only to have to sell the 2 mechs they never wanted for mech bay space.
I know right hilarious??
Its even more pointless with clan mechs.

the problem is that this is a FPS player vs player game not a single player PC game.
This is essentially an arena sport where we're all competing against each other - a huge element of your capability comes down to how hard and well you practice - you really think Federer or Messi don't invest huge time into training, practicing and exercising?
Well same goes here if you really want to compete you will find you put in a lot of time.
Not to traumatise you but I've just prepped a new CW deck and here was the end screen of just one IS mech:

Yeah I ground to get that isk but the point is that it is eminently doable.

Not so much with clans as a couple of mechs are decent at all
But definitely the case with IS

I am a casual PUG players myself. It is not hard to master a mech (I have been grinding one off and on since this weekend, it is almost done). I don't have any premium time either, the holiday2014 code never came to my email and the code would never redeem. It gives me a challenge and something to work towards, it is fun!
Make sure you get your assists and win! Those two things can really make or break your exp/c-bills.
It is not a huge disadvantage to be in a non-mastered mech vs other mastered mechs. Plus I am sure there are other players out there in the same match grinding a mech also.
Use that time to sharpen your skills in your new mech and adjust it as need be. Then when it is mastered you will be that much better in it. Plus after all that time you may feel a connection to that mech and a sense of accomplishment. These may be feelings you have never felt before, but trust me they rock!

I personally know a few friends who found the grind to be too much and chose other games. I don't know how well MWO population is since they removed the counter but I reckon they would have more players/potential customers if they brought back 8v8 cbill earnings.

The difference is none of those games had an artificial barrier like the mech tree, modules, fresh stock mechs being sub-optimal which is putting it politely, etc, and all you really needed was practice which is not the case for MWO.
Any good, memorable arena sport game has and had all players on even ground and skill was the vast majority of what determined player performance; the only advantages over other players were outside of the game (internet connection, hardware, etc) and all inherent with the reality of online games and thus unavoidable.

Finally finishing with an annoying grind so that I can play optimally does not give a sense of accomplishment nor is it fun, if only because it heavily impedes my ability to mess around with some crazy build or another in the mech lab and test it in some matches, among other reasons.
Also, while it may not be a big deal if your mech is not fully mastered (though it is 1 less module slot and that can be quite important) it is undeniably a significant disadvantage to go up against a mech that has full elite efficiencies when you don't, and if your mech is anything less than full basic then it's even worse.

Probably left for somewhere else like most of our other new players.

In reference to your inference that he's joined the ranks of new players who've left for greener pastures:
a.) This game is not going to "be" for everyone. In fact F2P business model is wholly reliant upon players downloading, trying and making that yes / no decision... Of course PGI would like everyone to love MW:O but statistically a 50/50 is statistical win for a F2P game.
b.) While I do not have any empirical numbers, based on my PUG experience and the fact that I rarely see the same players more than a few times in a given 3 -4 hour period, leads me to believe the player-pool is actually growing in numbers and no in decline. (I used to see the same half-dozen players routinely)
c.) A more concerning metric would be the decline in veteran players IMHO...

Well I don't see what you see. Maybe its elo but I see very few new players like you do. I had one match in the past few days where the noob announced he was in his 25 while driving a trial. Most trials I see are driven by founders or old hands I know now.
I also see the same players a lot. A lot more than I used to in solo.
Of course the old hands here have been slinging this same stuff a long time. No one really knows what the numbers are. We can only tell from experience. Like say so many post to complain about long wait times in cw. The response, its beta. LOL

Of course, that's fine for me, I still have a treasure trove of c-bills lying around and MC to spare but I can definitely see newer players being put off by having to grind so long and so hard.
Peace be upon you,
The Space Pope

Secondly the games poorly balanced.
And to grindy which would be fine if the games entire substance wasn't grind there Is nothing else repeat the same thing over and over, It is easily the worst game ive come across on that front.
They need to make big changes IMHO if this game is to get anywhere

Oh, absolutely, ones ELO is going to have a major impact on the player redundancy no doubt...
Again, not empirical but I see the ELO broken into 5 "brackets": ELITE | GOOD | MARGINAL | POOR | BAD. And it is represented by a inverted bell curve as one would expect... I.e.. deepest in the center and shallowing to the polar extremes. If you are in an ELO bracket that spreads -/+ over the good to poor brackets, chances are you are going to have a widely diverse player-pool. If you are in the eilte or bad brackets you are going to have a statistically shallower pool to draw from.
The reality is the better you are or the worse you are, the higher the likelihood you will draw reoccurring pairings with the same players... As such, top-tier elites and the steering wheel underhive are actually statistically bad reference points to qualify if the player base is growing or not.
Best representative being the absolute statistical "average" player right in the middle...
I.e... "Me"

PS: So I'd advise you find an aspect of the game you really like and concentrate on that, and the grind won't feel like, well a grind

PPS: Also yes I did have premium time active, but not on a Hero most of the time, and hell no I didn't mc the cash with those bundles, that's such a waste in my opinion, I got cockpit swag instead (12+ Urbie Classy' Mechs, I've got issues)

Unfortunately this has been a topic of debate for a long time and it only seems to be getting worse. My suggestion would be to send private messages to the devs and e-mails to explain your frustrations. Posting about this here on the forums about this topic is not likely to have an effect one way or another as there are groups on both sides of the debate that are pretty unlikely to be persuaded to the other view point. Expect a lot of hyperbole from both sides to be thrown around with no small amount of condescension. DaZur's post being a good example.
And if the OP took more responsibility. He does not even know what MC can be used for? Or it is the "Teams" (always with the Teams) he gets put on that are the cause of his misery.
Maybe we could make him a queue of 1 so he doesn't have to play with others.
You know. At least complain after understanding fully.
