Because two banner flags is OP.

So... Hatamoto-Akatsuki, then? ;)

"But perhaps its most remarkable feature is its gold colored armor, known as the Yata-no-Kagami. In reality, this armor is a gold coating made up of millions of tiny mirrors which are used to reflect beam attacks, making [it] virtually impervious to beam attacks."

Sounds a lot like the functionality of Reflective Armor!

Why do so many people like these humanoid gundam looking (yes i know battletech is older than gundam but you should get what im saying) mechs seem to attract all kinds of attention? Im tired of human mechs personally, is it all the anime fanboys or something?

Bushwacker? Supernova? ANYTHING other than more humanoid mechs please.

Let me re-phrase that...

Gold Hatamoto with reflective armor, that would be a Hatamoto-Atashexy!

Mobile Suit Gundam made its debut in April of 1979, Super Dimension Fortress Macross (from which the most popular Unseen, the Marauder & Warhammer, are derived) made its debut in October of 1982, and BattleTech made its debut in 1984.

BattleTech is not older than Gundam (or Macross, Dougram, and Crusher Joe - the original sources of the Unseen 'Mechs), and BattleTech would not exist if it weren't for a market & a fanbase consisting largely of "anime fanboys" that happen to particularly like mecha.

Thanks for the correction.

Needless to say, humanoid mechs are lame and there's more than enough of them in the game as it is.

This is great and I'm all for new mechs, but don't we have too many in the 80 ton range already? I'd like some more heavier chassis choices (specifically 90/95) before getting more assaults in the other 80 to 100 range.

Hm... I think it's overkill stating that the Hatamoto looks like a Gundam, or even strongly influenced by Japanese mecha design. Now, I'm no expert on the area. But to me the original Hatamoto looks like it's firmly grounded in Battletech's love or hate aesthetics.

A big part I suppose is simply that it's a highly themed design, modelled to look like a samurai, but IMO that doesn't automatically make it a Gundam. And since there really aren't many themed designs in Battletech, I would love to see what Alex could come up with.

Obviously it'll go through the same treatment as everything else. It'll become less human and more industrial. The skirt probably wouldn't physically work but I'd like to see it implemented in some way, just because it makes sense that the Draconis would design a Battlemech to reflect ancient samurai armour.

Point being, remove that head armour design, the extended shoulders and the 'skirt' and it'd look just the same as many other humanoid Battlemechs. It's just aesthetics which honestly don't seem unrealistic in the Battletech universe. :P

Technically, the shoulder extensions aren't even all that out of place, lots of IS chassises have used similar design features. In fact, if they were part of the samurai armor theme, they wouldn't extend from the shoulder up, they'd extend from the shoulder down, toward the elbow.

I am getting tired of people who keep making fun of humanoid mechs.

EVEN THOUGH if mechs ever become a practical part of war, Humanoid mechs would be what we see as it has more applications then a 'chicken walker' mech.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 'chickens', but the humanoid mechs are more practical, the hands and arms itself make it much better then other mechs.

for instance. "Oh now, you fell over. Better prod myself back up with this fragile multi million dollar gun!" or "better use my hands instead"

Ironically the Hatamoto is actually one of the most realistic mechs in MW: O... the applications of modular weapons (in form of hand held things) and also how it shows it's nationalities doctrine and with pride is quite a lot of things that apply to real life.

It may not be the best thing in combat but if mechs ever see combat, humanoid is the case. (however quad mechs is a completely different situation. Industrial and Agrocultural mechs will also occur more realisticly)
