That was one of the first ones I tried - while I run gauss on a lot of my mechs - the Highlander's arms were to slow for me to make good use of it.

Tripple LPL was nice (short of the heat anyways)

Try to keep the enemy at a distance when your low slung weapon wont matter, or at the same level. Could always just rip the gauss off, stuff 'er full of Double heat sinks and rip people up with the 3 LPLs.

To many light mechs that closed with me. :P

Currently running with 3xMPL - and that seems to scare them off more

Tried running with an AC10 and LPL - and that is what I plan on moving back to after I get 2xBasics on it
(Or at least full basics  - or maybe even just the 325)

I'm buying back my Highlanders now. Just sold my Atlases, as they're just not fun to play anymore due to power creep. The Highlanders are still sub-optimal assault mechs in the current meta, especially due to the 2-ton hover jets, but I think it's a fun compromise between the Atlas and the Victor. And most of the builds you can do with the Atlas and Victor, you can do with the Highlander.

2xUAC5 brawler? Yes.
PPC sniper? Yes.
AC20 power house? Yes.
Quad SRM tornado? Yes

Who cares if the Stalker is actually better at this point? The Highlander looks much cooler. And underdogs are more fun to play.

And what do I do when I reach 90% heat 5 seconds into combat?

Please, I appreciate you trying, but there is no build that can make this mech viable in the current meta.

HGN-732

Gauss ammo used for blocking the Gauss explosion. Hago's internal stack. As far as I remember.

so drop a LPL for heat sinks. Like this

It would be easier to build for them if PGI's quirk system didn't **** them over because of the useless JJs.

Stalkers are generally better for missiles (unless, you go the Awesome route).

Banshees have no shortage of dakka or wub.

The problem with the HGN is basically you neuter it like an Atlas and can pretty much ignore it at that point. Haven't been seeing too many in awhile given there are better options for just about any role. This is especially true in CW where that 95 ton price tag can be a big factor on the effectiveness of your other mechs in the lineup.

The days of the HGN performing feats of amazement are sadly long gone. It can still perform well in the hands of a good pilot but it's not optimal given the current state of the game.

Stalkers and Banshees are pretty solid mechs.
