We need to be able to spot enemy either automaticly or spot button. Then have a special triangle for folks who are spotted but not targeted. These you could target but not for missle lock purpose or info gather.

Automatic pilot com chatter would be good. "have enemy contact" "taking fire" along with any other drama to make it fun.

There also needs to be a way to standardize one's identity on the map. like if your the 2nd person in Charlie lance, then instead of just a arrow you show up as a circle with an arrow with "C2" written inside it. Make it easy to ping on the map or eve where you can drag lines to specific lances/mechs.

I would like 'random radio chatter' that was useful, like when team mates are taking fire and such like from MechCommander.

Community and communication have to start at the most basic level no mater what advanced methods of either is available.
MWO has failed to provide the basic level tools and continues to do so for reasons... well reasons.
Picture this, a community game with nowhere for the community to interact.. good setup right?

Refresh my memory, but has the c3 been anything other than a placeholder that does ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING.

Not "well people don't use it, but the option exists of an in game VOIP"

But a function that does nothing, because it doesn't exist.

Not in closed beta.

Or UI 1.0

Or open beta.

Or UI 1.5

Or at launch.

Or UI 2.0

Or when IGP was kicked to the curb.

Or when CW beta started.

You know kinda like how a few of the skills are still placeholders that have NEVER DONE ANYTHING BUT SUCK UP XP.

*snip*

To be honest I don't know because I never even bothered with it, I looked for open TS3 servers on the forums here before getting serious into make drops so I can try and meet up with units there if I happen to drop with them.

However, in another thread where I posted this pic because of the VOIP debacle I made mention to the fact I haven't used it and someone that responded to my posting that made mention that it is there to enable yet another 3rd party program which you must download separately that in and of itself is a joke because it doesn't sync you up with your current drop, just people you have dropped with in the past.

C3 was BIG NEWS back in the day. It got a press release and was reported on by actual gaming sites, but PGI decided to not integrate it, and it's fallen by the wayside since.

First and Foremost, Allen my recommendation for you is as follows (a couple of ideas that you can choose between),

First, based on your current post avatar your an Inner Sphere player specifically House Kurita, whether or not your permanent I don't know but I will assume it is your preferred faction and suggest this, look to see if there is a faction shared teamspeak hosted by another group (examples of this are Comstar, which houses both Inner Sphere and Clan units, NGNG (No Guts No Galaxy http://nogutsnogalaxy.net/) which appears to also house both Inner Sphere and Clan units and one that is specifically for Clan units that I can tell Strana Mechty, (sorry I can't remember off hand the pass for these)

Second I would check out http://www.raidcall.com/index.html it is another VOIP program which both happens to be free to use and free to host groups in (fairly large ones at that.)

Lastly this is something to back up what others have said about an in-game VOIP already existing and this is not directed to anyone, pay attention to the Red Rectangle

Thank you, JadeTimberwolf, that was a really helpful post. I added NGNGTV to TS already and installed RaidCall, we will test this software, although it already threw a hendful of errors while playing around with it, but I guess it will do.
I was on House Kurita TS already, I find those large TS servers pretty messy. The unit prefers a small and seperated VOIP, but that would have to be payed for then.

I remember that C3 button in the settings, but after activating nothing happened and I was left with no clue on what to do next. So I considered C3 to be broken in MWO ever after...

Thx again.

Once Faction Groups are added, this should help a bit. We can go to a central location and form faction based groups which makes comms a lot easier.

Pug groups will be able to form the same as they have in the regular queues. Someone can make channels for specific factions (I know several already do this). People can idle in a channel and wait for others to join up to make a group.

Right now with so many TS servers, and you can't even group without being in a unit with someone, creates too much fragmentation. I agree with the OP there, very fragmented community.

I enjoy using voice comms, but often in a public channel there's absolutely no chat discipline. This creates more of a distraction for me than it is helpful, as I find I have no problems reading chat during the games. I have avoided joining random pug comms for this reason. I'm more inclined to join comms when it's 8+ from a unit though, but even then, lately I have no found the need. Games we were going to roll the other team happened anyway, and I haven't seen a loss where being in comms would have made a difference.
