Update: TX for some nice discussion and manners people, helped renew my faith in the player base somewhat. :)

I understand that there is some genuine frustration around here and in game recently. Certainly both IS and Clan pilots have had their annoyances with the maps and balance but the toxicity has just been increasing exponentially.

In game today I played with a team of PUGs that were trashed talked and stomped into the ground by a competitive team that frankly should have shown extreme sportsmanship. As an example in my unit we let randoms open the door when they are really having issues and encourage them to try again or join a unit. Is it really that rewarding to completely stomp and humiliate new and random people?

Likewise on here and in game no one is sympathetic to the other sides view in that:

1) Is it really fair or fun to take snipe a team to death with nothing but ppcs

2) or to counter this by doing nothing but 4 groups of 12 man stormcrow rushes?

Are you really that biased or frankly unsportsmanlike to see that its fun when both sides have a fair chance to win? Do we really have to call each other names and curse at them over the forums which simply shows how insignificant and dumb we are?

Consider this, if you keep smashing people in one sided victories and humiliating new players, there isn't going to be anyone to play with. Meaning all this work you put into the game will be completely fruitless.

With that, perhaps we could all try a little bit harder to think what is best for the game rather than just our win count. Try to think what will make it most fun and fair rather than just what gets us more kills.

Just turn off all chat. Problem solved. Now if they would just add an ignore list like feature.....

Winning is fun. Certain tactics lead to winning. Ergo, people will use certain tactics.

Don't hate the playa, hate the game.

You know though; this community was always a lot better than most. We tend to have older people that played a lot of battletech and MW and really like both sides of the Clan and IS.

I personally love my IS mechs. I want them to be competitive although I do primarily play clan.

Its not fun to humiliate people or to one sided smash the other team everytime.

It just seems to have gotten really bad and unsportsman like recently compared to what the community was.

I don't think winning with cheez or completely humiliating the other team is fun. Maybe I have other life priorities.

This is what I do for my time off, I want it to be enjoyable for everyone.

My point was that it's a games design that pushes a certain way of playing, not the player's personal preference.

On this you and I agree. My unit and I don't use lopsided cheez tactics but you are right that most people do drift this way if it nets them wins.

Allow people to be ******* and they will. I miss the old MW4 mercs online, when I played that people weren't going around trash talking. It was frankly a much better experience with other people than just about every single online game today, people would get on to actually have fun. Hell back in mw4 people wouldn't leg people just because it was considered a lame thing to do, good luck finding any kind of restraint like that in games today. I guess this is just what youth/younger adults today are like, trash-talking ****** who find their enjoyment in trying to make others feel bad.

In a hyper competitive environment, 'fair' is usually irrelevant.

Many view hyper competitive as 'fun'.

If you arent ready for the chance at being smashed by a very good team who selects only decent players and spends hours practicing, then maybe CW isnt for you?

Smack talk is part of any game.

As long as it isnt overly homophobic, sexist, racist, vulgar, etc, who cares. Screen cap and send to PGI if it is too extreme.

NOW, as for this being an online game with the option to disable all chat...

You gotta realize many trash talkers are just compensating for self esteem issues, past traumas, lack luster personalities, perceived life failures, lack of sexual prowess, cowardice in real life, plain stupid youth, or their mommy didnt buy them that one cookie 7 years ago.

Keyboard warriors are just people trying to 'fight' the fact that they get their *ss kicked every single time they happen to look into a mirror.

I really do not understand this aversion/complaining about legging a 'mech. I have seen a few posts about it lately and was even flamed in game for it today. It is a viable tactic. If you are dealing with a 'mech that has superior manuervability, even the playing field. Especially if the leg is already damaged. Why is legging 'bad' yet stripping an arm is ok? I fail to see how this is rude.

That said, any time you have a PVP online game, there will always be those that feel it necessary to lash out. It's frustrating to loose and some people simply do not handle it well. Turn off chat, ignore it, or try to help them if you feel so inclined. But, sadly, it probably will not ever go away.

Unfortunately, as more and more players discover "CW is not for you", the hyper competitive teams will slit their own throats.

The OP is correct. Toxic is toxic.

You know, lashing out happens. We all get frustrated and say a few mean things occasionally.

It just seems that people have gotten really really bad recently. I remember when I first started out people would give advice and joke around when mechanics were obviously broken. Now they simply lash out and humiliate.

I dunno, maybe I'm just nostalgic.

You have to ride the mech of the month, and reap the rewards of doing it. If I get smoked hard by a mech I take a hard look at it and try the build out myself, make it better sometimes. People are just now discovering the Thunder... I had that pegged the day it got its perks, I had already built the S with 2 ERPPCs just needed to add one more for pure awesome.

No, boredom is their only fear. As long as PGI has something to offer, they will stay. And average players will have something to aspire to.

Of the @400 million North Americans, less than 1000 are Pro Football players who see gametime. I dont see them slitting their wrists during their careers so much. Afterwards with concussions and decondition syndrome, more so.

Not saying MWO will ever be the NFL, but as long as Comps have fun vs each other, they will stay.

Sorry my friend, the numbers don't bode well for you. Look at the number of people playing CW, only teams a few pugs. Think about that, the number of players is in the hundreds.

And that is the point, its not any fun to be humiliated and pissed on by the competition. This is what people do for fun; this is not my job. If I am beaten up and abused I'm going to say to hell with it and flip to another game.

Well, if it helps you at all, you can turn off public chat now. Eliminates alot of the BS.

I keep mine on though.

Cause I loves me some trashtalking :D (tasteful of course)

And actually I'm OK with it if CW has a low population... it's another game mode for folks to enjoy and if it become the playground of established units and the proving ground for new units that's OK too.

I'll be honest even though I don't play CW, I am enjoying looking at the map as it changes, generating with player input a new history for the BT universe. Makes everything seem more "alive" for lack of a better term.

Agreed. There is nothing wrong with a bit of banter and such. Its when I see people calling the new people names and making fun of them I get annoyed; its not going to get any fun if we don't get people to play the game with us.
