Recently I have found that my solo pug drops have changed.

I now routinely get 3+ kills, or cap multiple points, but find the rest of my team has accomplished nothing.
My W/L has gone from 1.3 down to 1.1 in very little time, while my K/D keeps climbing.
In 3 matches recently I have had teammates apologize for being "new to the game".

Have I found the legendary ELO hell?
Is this the source of the CarryHarder meme?
I thought that we are grouped with similarly skilled players.

Didn't read through all replies but I also experienced that something changed the last few days... I have steadily built up a decent W/L ratio and suddenly I am being pulled down towards 0.5 ratio again. The last 40 games are 30 losses. Not completely hopeless teams, but clearly less competent than the other team. Nearly every game.

I have recorded the results of my last 200 games on a spreadsheet at home and the graph of w/l ratio vs # of games is a wave going up and down. Doesn't look very random to me but I should probably record at least twice as many games... but the impression from the graph is the same as the subjective impression that there is a cyclic behavior of win-streaks and loss-streaks somewhere in the MM/Elo/maprotation/psycology/human nature or whatever causes it.

the good we're getting new players, the bad we're getting new players.

If you win more than you lose your elo is higher than average. You will be placed with players lower than average.
If you cant help them succeed then you get to be a loser again. CARRY HARDER

How many drops does the OP have? I am guessing under 100, life will change eventually. I see as many tags in solo drops as CW.

HA Ha ha! ... No

Over 2000 since the last stat reset

Ugh, its bad sometimes but trust me it is no where near as bad as World of Tanks MM is.
I have had many matches where my team was a bunch of ******* whom spent the entire game shooting and ramming each other, games where myself, a relative noob (I only started playing a few months back) got the only kills on my team (usually around 2 in these cases, then I get focusfired and vanish beneath enemy shells). And this is me in a sub optimal (Read "Not Russian or American) vehicle.
I have had nightmare matches where I have been dropped against opponents my puny gun has no chance of damaging. trust me, the MM in Mechwarrior Online is very, very good compared to others.

I've been bit by this starting from the "free Victor" event. I saw my W:L drop drastically from ~1.25 (over ~3500 PUG games) to 0.6:1 (over 50 PUG games). I know those numbers to be true because I started taking screenshots of my stats and ONLY played Victors and Thunderbolts to level them up. 5 of those 6 chassis had terrible W:L stats once I finished them off; my VTR-9B gave me a 9-loss streak (ended with a win at 1-9) and I actually had a 10-loss streak during the Victor tournament.

To see if it was from being a n00b in a new chassis I tried my RVN-3L, Ember, JM6-FB, Timberwolf, and Highlander. The result was the same, more losses than wins. Personal stats were poor if I tried to lead pushes & help teammates; stats were near personal bests when I hung inside/behind the pack & let teammates make endless mistakes.

As soon as I jumped into group & CW matches, my W:L magically rebounded. In fact I started scoring some of my highest DMG/Kill games of 2014 in those matches. I've seriously considered running MWO in the background with an AFK trial mech to see if it will and bring my active PUG match quality back (in other words, deflate my ELO).

Try your best not to worry too much about the outcome. Instead invest all your care toward your own performance. Not only does this make you a better player, but it keeps your from blowing a gasket every time most of your teammates can't break 200 damage.

Been like that for a long while for me. Heck I regularly have games where I kill upwards of 7 enemies and find out that I've landed on the DERP squad fresh off the short bus, losing the match.

Same here. The last 5 days have been hell with W/L ratio.

Games starting where a majority of players running around in circles with no apparent clue on where to go, a fighting battle where suddenly you are one of the few friendliest left because the rest of the team has run away to cower or have folded so quick it is just shocking, lots of 3pv, players shooting SRMs at targets 400m+.

New players are good for the game but gee, they do bring certain frustrations to the game...

Cheers
Eboli.

It'd be great to think this is from a fresh wave of recruits, but I'm not so sure. I think its just that we have players that are that bad and MM is looser than a cow after birthing. I just played a game where a guy kept ramming his cicada into me over and over again. He was on my team.... Eventually he managed to pin me against the ramp where the enemies found us. It didn't end well.

Since coming back to MWO, I have to admit that I am one of people being carried rather than carrying. ;-) I had spent my time away from MWO playing an FPS where the TTK is way under 500ms.

I have been relearning the basics of MWO: situational awareness über alles.

At one point I had a decent win/loss ratio prior to my taking this long break, but I am still quite squarely in the mouth-breathing crowd with 0.77 W/L.

I can attest to the fact that there are new players in the game, I've been seeing a fair bit of clueless behavior out there. IS-LRMs at 50 meters, IS-PPCs at 50 meters, and so on. Definitely does follow the "good news, bad news" model there. ;-)

The really funny thing I wanted to note is that ELO does need a time-decay feature. If you spend enough time away from the game you really do lose your edge. I am beginning to see my damage numbers edge back up, but I'm still at a pretty low average.

I feel like the MM is just really screwed in general now. I go 3-4 games where half of my team is under 100 damage, ALL of them under 200, then have a game or two where it's the complete opposite and I can barely get any damage in before everything is dead. Kinda sucks for C-bills.

My W/L is holding steady at 1.13. What has suffered is my KD/R.

The drop in my KD/R did not start until the IS quirks. IMO, the IS quirks is why your W/L has dropped.

the 1400 threshold is the maxiumum Elo threshold the MM searches to. But I don't think it is 1400 anymore, it's been tweaked a few times.

The MM picks a player/Elo rating, it tries to match players closest to that target Elo, as it searches to find players it has an increasing threshold to which it can pick players, so in theory a player can be a 1000 Elo +/_ the target Elo for the match.

Remember the release valve?

The it'll hunt till it finds a game in 2 minutes or less. Remember when it didn't automatically open the spread, people had to wait ten minutes to get a game.

....so now it does what it needs to with what its got to get a game launched with the players in the queue at that time, Elo be damnned.

New players that are used to lazy console gaming where no effort is required other than spamming the fire button. I helped a Twitch streamer the other day who had no knowledge of weapon grouping, how to hit R and read the enemy paper doll, or that all the functionality of the game can be found on the keyboard binds in settings. 10 minutes of coaching and he had a 3 kill, top score match. This is a fail on PGI's part end needs to be remedied. The juvenile tips messages that run before a drop are useless ie. grouping with friends is an Awesome way to win, ect. A mandatory tutorial is required or a split que where new players must drop at least 100 times before being unleashed on the public que.

Did you seriously need to try and start up a console war over this?

It's time like this where I start to question is console players are better people then 'computer elitists master race'

Agreed regarding the terrible onboarding process in this game.

When the base turrets came out, I had high hopes that they would be used in a tutorial regarding: firing different weapon groups, rolling damage, etc. Nope... Sigh...

No.
It never was and never be.If ELO feels like you have to lose 10 times in a row it wil put in your team 6 newbies 10 times in a row and you gonna lose 10 times.
PUG LIFE :( .
