Yes, especially when she works with yoko kanno on soundtracks or songs.
Pretty incredible considering she started her career as a nobody while she was in high school playing the role of hitomi from excaflowne, a high school girl in the series.

Wow, way too young... That being said, she has left her mark and will be remembered thanks to her role in one of the best cyberpunk series in existence. I would not be surprised if those songs will still be heard many decades from now.

We should make a Maaya unit ^^
I literally fell on my knees before the TV when i first heard the escaflowne insert song and thought Who is THAT VOICE???
(in germany they edited out Maayas opening, I still get angry every time i think about it :D)

Origa is dead... a singer from lung cancer of all things. *sigh*

Yeah they had a bad habit of doing that kind of editing when anime first started making it big in the USA in the early 90s. the backlash for editing out the Japaneseness to make it more "tolerable"(or so they thought without understanding the fans were japanophiles) for American audiences ended up going so bad for them they edit nothing out now for non-TV releases.

I remember how pissed off I was when they destroyed the great soundtrack to the original animated street fighter movie and replaced it with contemporary rock from the era it was released. thinking it would be more popular that way.

For me, Bubblegum Crisis 2033 (this is the ORIGINAL BGC series) is still my fave. Gunbuster is good if you can find it, this was the first subtitled, unedited anime that I had the pleasure of watching. Dominion Tank Police is still hilarious.............just got the Bluray set for Cowboy Bebop that I have yet to watch. Burn Up W was fun too, only saw about 4 episodes though. I've seen all of Ikki Tousen and Full Metal Panic.

But as a kid, Speed Racer and Battle Of The Planets (Gatchaman) were easily the coolest cartoons that I'd ever seen. Didn't know what anime was back then.

Curently Imawa no Kuni no Alice OVA caught my eye. Its only up to part 2, but it looks liek it could be a Gantz type anime, just with more brains than random PUG queue type of characters (Gantz has just too many redshirts for my taste).

Now that the anime thread has proven to be a roaring success, I think it's time for a manga thread

No Aeon Flux love? Anyways, Yu Yu Hakusho holds a special place for me and I wish there was more of it. But there is just so much to choose from, especially the further back you look. Legend of the Galactic Heroes is something I recently got on laserdisc of all things and I'm really enjoying it.

Someone else who liked Argevollen! :D

(Personally, I feel like the show started very "meh", but found itself in the second half & improved dramatically from there. Also, that last scene with Suzushiro, Samonji (and the look on his face), and Cayenne... :o)

yop, I agree - at first I didnt know what to think of Argevollen and thought that it felt like some copy of Evangelion, but that changed with each episode :)

Moving this thread out of Kurita HQ is a crime against humanity and there WILL be repercussions.
