Ridiculous Battletech Facts

-Plasma weapons are efficient!
-Same armor will protect against heat, electrical, magnetic, kinetic and physical weapons equally well. No nanotech or smart-material used!
-A mech can survive 15-20 missiles, but 1 AC-20 shot will cripple it.
-Mechs can be "climbed on" by infantry, that plant explosives.
-Machine guns are more terrifying to infantry then fusion powered lightning guns.

-infantry usually operates together in 20-30 men strong units and stays rather close together, so that they can be better mowed down with Battlemech MGs and Artillery

-Orbital bombardments rarely occur, instead being replaced by battlemechs blowing the hell out of everything
-Faxes are still considered a valid means of transmitting private information. (If you want to avoid Comstar, at least)
-Though the entire galaxy has been searched, only the human race managed to become sentient. No other star system produced what can be considered even semi-intelligent life.
-Hippies still exist, though it's really a cover for terrorism.

Well, it would be easier to find what is NOT ridiculous in BT - and it's mostly everything that does not concern technology.

Battletech is not about realism, it's about fun...

To the bolded part:
In a novel, what reads better?
----------------------
"John entered his Dragon's cockpit, saying his usual short prayer for good luck. He fastened the belts tightly and put on the neurohelmet. As usual, when the neurohelmet made contact with his brain he had that short moment of dizzyness until the connection was clean and stable. Meanwhile Jannicka - he had named his Dragon after his little sister who was killed in a kurita raid - started up. When she told him that all systems are nominal he wiggled the mech's arms a little, to ensure that the neuroconnection was really proper. "Red 2 ready and nominal" he said. "Red lance, you know the target. Remember, that power generator is vital to the enemy's weaponproduction. Take the generator out and they will be thrown back by months!".
Then the hangar doors opened and John fealt the usual rush of adrenaline in these moments just before the drop when his Mech was hanging high abve a planet's surface. Then the dropping clamps released red lance and the most scary, most dangerous part of the mission, the drop, began.
-snip-
The resistance was only light, some Commandoes piloted by pretty green mechwarriors. They were not much of an obstacle for the 4 Dragons piloted by elite mechwarriors. The mission went well and the generators lay in smoking ruins very quickly."
----------------------
Or:
----------------------
"John took a sip of his coffee, swearing loudly as it burned his tongue. "Operator, you know the target. Fire when ready." "Understood. Charging weapons." John pressed 2 buttons, charging his OBPPC (Orbital Bombardment Particle Projection Cannon). The green lights flashed as all 5 OBPPC were charged and ready. "Ready, sir!" and then, remembering that he got the fire order already he added quickly "Firing!" and pressed a little red button. 5 bolts of energy lashed down to the weapon production facility, turning it into a big crater. "They won't produce anything down there for centuries!" John said in the euphoria of victory. "Good shot." said his superior.
Now John needed another cup of coffee. Killing was thirsty business after all."

Actually only a small part of the galaxy has been visited by jumships. So they might be out there somewhere.. or not
- Computer systems capable of controlling a fusion power plant inside a moving, jumping, falling etc mech are not capable of getting a decent aim for the weapons.
- Despite mechs positivly glowing from their exess heat, heat seeking missiles are absent.
- A 100 ton metal mosnter with a fusion reaktor that screams lowdly "HERE" in infrared, on a magnetometer, and probably also in gamma radiation can HIDE behind a building.

Not true, the noble Tetatae are a sentinent species that is part of the BT canon
edit: though the existance of the Tetatae could be considered a ridiculous Battletech fact.

Actually, if you read the sarna.net link provided (or the novel that is referenced there) you'll find that they do taste kinda like chicken.

Mechwarriors (after having mowed down pretty many enemy infantrymen) exit their cockpit (in a warzone!) to count bodies for the statistics
Just imagine an F-117 Pilot lands after bombing his target, just to look if he really hit - lol.

Fixed for chuckles

The Sword and the Dagger The novel is also notable for featuring the Swamp people, one of only two instances of (possibly) intelligent alien life in the entire BattleTech universe.
