Aha! If you exit the game before you go back to the UI and get the "adding new stuff" message it doesn't start ticking away. It'll start the next time I login to the game. If I don't play MWO for a week or a month and start playing at that point, that's when the premium time starts. I've done it before and it works like a charm.

Yet after first 20 or so games, where i had it nicely 55% w 45% l, i took some brainless coward team streak. Lasted to this afternoon - like 40+ games. Assaults camping BEHIND everyone else, hardly near enough for their close/ med range guns to have any effect. Lights camping back, waiting for cored enemy so they can jump in and finish him with their srms... . Med guys running like headless chicken.
Trully terrible - i never quit like quit, but when i say that im tanking so we can rush enemy half of our numbers and NOBODY hopes in, all just camp behind, watch me getting shot to shreds...well, i am not trying to survive when seeing this.
These events need punishment for disconnects (there can be some safety aka scan if the player quit the game, or the battle only) and gms watching the game.
I really dont know, whats up with people going totally dumb by each action. Had only ONE beatifull game, where assault lance communicated and worked together - 2 lights joined us and asked for orders (= "where do you need me to look"). 12:0 victory, 9 kills for assaults 2 for lights and rest of the team did join us when already 9:0 (one guy wrote "I didnt even see the enemy yet" - enemy answer "Your assaults did"). After we took out enemy assaults, we let even enemies to bite us a bit, so everyone in our lance got a kill. All it took was a little bit of communication, two smart light pilots realizing assaults need help from little guys. Didnt need the rest.
Why ppl dont understand this? Why do they think, that camping one one spot, letting enemy flank both sides will bring anything else than loosing? Why do they think, that somebody will carry them in PUG? Why do they killsteal (not shooting unles enemy cored red = heavy damage to their teammate) instead of playing?
So for me: PGI thumbs up for events, thumbs down for you still not realizing punishments are in dire need here.

Although until I get my network issues fixed, I am done playing this game for now, desyncing every half minute (sometimes more, sometimes less frequently) and occasionally losing the server connection entirely is NOT a fun way to play.
