Voted for teamspeak, as it will most likely be it, though i pretty much can (and will) use any of them. Actually, i like Vent better than all the others, as it is the least bandwidth-hungry one :)

Edit: basing on my experience and IMHO, of course

I disagree, too many other providers doit better than ingame options.

Yeah, but we won't be playing exclusively with premade groups. Coordination is pretty lacking in public servers without making it harder to communicate.

I still hope they will put it in game voice function. I just don't want to have to pay to play with people on a free to play game.

Skype is free...

i desperately want MWO to have ingame Voip...im too tired to write it again, so i'll just copy paste my last post about it in some other thread about it....

so i join a random game aaaand....i inv everyone to my teams teamspeak server right!? and if someone prefers vent then we all just spend 10-15 mins discussing which one would should use...and then we can all finally play....yes we need to re invent wheel...in game voip is simple fast and easily accessible by everyone! its been there for a long time, its been proven and Cryengine def supports it. yes it will require extra work and resources from the devs but its something vital for team based game where "teamwork" is key..

i really dont understand why some ppl dont want it. and pls dont give me stupid answers like "oh everyone has teamspeak" or "i hate the chatter".

A. not everybody is playing only with friends. most of the playing will be in random matches
B. mute. it only takes one click not that hard is it?

Because idiots use it, spam it with stupid crap, animal noises, and open mics.

Even tho you mute said person all the voice data still gets sent to you, just not played.

It wastes bandwidth.

Fine if your living right nextdoor to the server. Lags the **** out of everyone else (and everyone else is a large enough % of this community to make it count)

also..

Here's another voice comm, new to the market i think. May be good:

I'll be using skype at first at least, but could switch to mumble easily enough, I agree that there needs to be verbal communication for a game like this, I cant' see myself typing whilst in a match, not with something as involved as I hope this will be.

it takes up bandwidth...really? ts or ventrilo dont? or maybe when playing you only speak when REALLY necessary and the rest of the time you keep quite to save up bandwidth....

look it doesnt take up that much bandwidth...i dont remember BF2 or 2142 lagging because of ingame voip and it was widely used. its "ingame" voip, its designed that way chatter does not affect your gamplay...

next answer...

edit: we dont need another 3rd party solution, vent and ts are pretty good at what they do :)

Always had good luck with TS. Not much lag and easy to configure.

Technically Mumble is free, and TeamSpeak is free to an extent. Getting it hosted somewhere is what costs.

Personally I think skype is the devil.

TeamSpeak has a pretty decent SDK, MWO may always chose to implement it as their VOIP solution.

eta: One of the best things they could do with an ingame viop would be to enable individual volume/mute, and ignore.

I will be using whatever the faction/guild/friends are demanding we use, though most exp is in ventrilo and teamspeak, never used the others.

I also prefer Mumble. Its volume attenuation and overlay features are excellent.

Earlier this year, a person I used to game with set up a TS3 server. 25 people for around $60 a year if it was hosted, or $30 a year if they hosted it themselves. A few people chipping in for the cost of a decent 6 pack or a pack of smokes is all it takes. You could go cheaper and host it yourself, but it will eat up bandwidth and increase the chance of packet loss where it counts.

Even if MWOMercs had VOIP, I would still prefer TS3 as you have control to who has access and not have an XBOX live experience.

Please understand TS3 is all I have had experiences with, I have never used mumble though heard good things about it. Vent on the other hand... I will not go into it.

This video is a bit dated, and in all fairness to TeamSpeak TS3 is better than TS2, but this shows how little lag mumble has.

Mumble is Open Source, so its free if you have someplace to set it up, and usually lower cost for hosted. If someone is enterprising enough they could even set up their own hosting service...

Mumble, because people who know far more than I about audio codecs and bandwidth usage have decreed it as the best.

I'll be on my gaming community's TS3 server. I've used TS3 for a long time and have been happy with it. If there is anyone else considering it, remember that you can host a server on your own PC and it was free as long as it wasnt being used for commercial/profit. Not 100% sure if that has changed.

For those worried about 'spies', just setup the channel permissions correctly and that should never be an issue.

I am a big fan of Skype as well but I always thought the CPU usage was too much. I dont use it for gaming purposes.
