It's been fun grinding matches!
Thanks to all teammates for help, and enemies for kills :)

Now I'm waiting my CTF-3D (C) with arms ready to hug him!

Anyone else who completed the challenge and wanting to write their impression about it?

IMO, it's been way easier than "To the Victor", despite the 30 points.
No survival required, so, a scratch, a kill... and then helping the team for the win even dying (who cares about k/d ratio? pffff)

My most productive mechs: FS9-A (8sml), lurmer stormcrow (45A-lrm+ 3ml) and WubberCent(3LPL)

I finished it last night as well. Originally I wasn't really worried about the CTF (I pilot almost exclusively Clan 'mechs), I was more impressed with the PT. But, after the first 3 points on Friday, I was able to keep the momentum going and before I knew it, I had managed 11 points by late Friday night, so I actively started working for it.

There were a few bad matches, but I was able to finish it off in just a few hours Saturday. I really enjoyed the challenge too, I am surprised at the amount of QQ about it - just goes to show that no matter what, some people will just complain.

I rotated thru a few different 'mechs, but my most used - and best performing - was my DWF- Prime (I) with 2x UAC20's, 4x MPLS and TC MK1. I would focus on getting a kill as early as possible, then would simply maim anything else I came across and leave them for the rest of my team. I tried to avoid taking another kill, but sometimes I really had no choice, or I would nail a side torso on an XL 'mech when trying to disarm them. Many times I pulled 700-1000 damage and only one or two kills, sometimes to then be flamed by some members of my team for 'not pulling my weight'. Sorry for being a team player, I guess...? /shrug

On another note - are CTF's XL friendly?

I can understand the QQ a little. The fact is that this kind of challenge pushes players to:
1) do many matches as possible in the shortest time possible; and this means deathball in 5 minutes (so you can play around 2 matches in 15 minutes, instead of one)

2 ) some players (with low skills?) are very very irritated by steal killing. And not everyone is so generous to do only one kill and then help the others

This kind of matches isn't my favorite, since I like above all to snipe, and this requires positioning, team movements, and not always deathball....

(CTF is not so xl friendly, so I use standerd for brawling, and xl only for mid-long range.)

81 matches. The first 10 came easily in 12 matches but then I switched to my CN-9D for my special project and then it became a matter of two steps forward 1 step back, then a long dry spell.

Took me 85 matches; 20 were on friday night when I should have go sleeping instead, that was a loosing streak... never play tired.

Most productive mechs... well Sparky did very well every time I took him, but I mostly did this in my King Crabs. On is "meta", dual gauss, dual PPCs and man that thing earns money, especially with premium time. The Other is my 4xLRM15 boat with 2700 missiles, managed to get a match with 6 kills, 6assists and well over 1000+ damage by just pressing R and clicking, that was really awesome.

Now I have a Wubaphract with 4LPL, that's kinda fun :D

Grats :) I got mine last night, my most effective mech was a 3x LPL 1x ML Wubverine with modules. Running my new Cata with 4x ML 2x UAC 5 lots of fun :D

Yes, i found a lot of dual gauss crabs during the challenge. It hurts, but above all it seems to me that it's more durable than the Dire or maybe it's only an impression...

Have fun with your new Phract!

Yes the wubverine is good, so I tried to mimic it with the Wubbercent, so sad that PGi changed its quirks (previous one were wub specific).

About the Cata, I'm stuck with 2ac10/ppc for months, high pinpoint alpha and less spread.
But since you like wub, what about a cata with 4LPL? I must give it a try myself to that.

I've been thinking about it but I rarely play with ballistics so it's a refreshing change of pace :P

I receive my 3D after 107 matches. Not an easy challenge. It was sometimes frustrating because of team damage. But i did some scratches too on the back of some friendly pilots.

Took me 77 matches. And at times I was wanting to tear my hair out. This reminds me why I skipped the last ones altogether.

From what I've seen, on average half of the winning team gets a kill. That's 6 out of 24 players per game. That should be 120 games for the average player. I do not think this is a good challenge.

Eh, QQ is more based on the play that usually comes out. All for tourneys, cool prize, easy to get the Premium Time.

But the amount of friendly fire and general douchery this community displays during these events is pretty dang annoying.

The way the match was structured shows poor planning on PGI's part (woo big surprise).

I've seen some really poor sportsmanship this weekend. Not as bad as the last challenge, that was just ridiculous. I actually uninstalled that weekend, and only recently reinstalled.

IMHO :

PGI, just give people the darn premium time for free during events like this, then hang the free mech out as a carrot. I've seen about 3 other free-to-plays that do this, and they are all immensely succesful. It's easier to sell premium time when people can try it out without pressure. Key word here is: pressure.

I have two friends who just started MWO, and neither of them even wanted to play this weekend. They saw the challenge as unachievable. It's discouraging.

I know if I didn't have a full quiver of mechs this weekend, there's no way I would have made the challenge. As it is, it took about 20 hours of gameplay to make it. The game's already a grind.

I'm happy I got my mech , but I feel bad, because none of my friends want to play.

Yes, this kind of challenge makes ppl playing in a hurry. I think the key factor here is time.
The more matches you do, the more chances to achieve a point you have.

I really hate this kind of gameplay, since I do my best with positioning, maneuvering, teamplay, etc. So, at the end of the challenge I needed to stop playing.... to purify and detox.
BUT, here is the fact: it took me 85 matches, puglandia only, but in a surprisingly low amount of time, since matches lasted 5-6 minutes average, and I took quite only lights and medium to play with waiting queue time around 1 minute.
Around 12 hours gone in "1 scratch, 1 kill asap, then helping the team as much than I could, even dying fast, and move fast to another match without waiting to see the end of the match".

Not the best days to have friends playing.

Now the next time I'll play again will be in a few days :D

thing is "speed matches" only work when you are expecting the rest of the team to carry you.

Is it any faster to get a point if it takes 3 matches, vs if you got one every other match or so?

Problem is, from my perspective, that most people do play it leavy the heavy lifting of actually WINNING the match to someone else. In fact, many times when a team was down several mechs they would just suicide charge.

Congrats! I am quite jealous as my computer copped out on me saturday night as I just broke 50%... I tried to play with my girlfriends computer at 10fps, but after two and a half hours of playing I only got one 1 point and then it overheated (at low settings, using the even more lower user config settings)
So I spent $500 for a new mobo and CPU.

FUN!

:D
