I'm technically a noob, so 'a grain of salt'.

I played Mech Warrior(you know, the first one, before the internet existed) & MW2 and Mercs back when whoever had the best ping hosted the match on his/her computer. I was the last member of Steel Viper at the time(guessing 15 years ago). "SV"Orion{OMA}. So although I just found MWO 4 weeks ago, it ain't my first rodeo.

My complaint....er comment. No need to complain, i's just a game.

In public matches. Soooooooo many whiners.

"Thanks for shooting me in the back"..... "well don't walk in front of me". ect...

So look, I die a lot. I am impatient and rush into battle, sometimes by accident(who knew the whole squad was over the hill?). Sometimes on purpose, as in, I see someone off on their own(like I am on occasion) and decide to join them only for us to both die in a 10 vs 2. That's me. When my mech is shredded I'll spot if I can. If I have any ams left I'll find a big mech to stand behind to help the TEAM.

It annoys me to die in D7 alone in a 6 vs 1 65 seconds into a match and see "Look at the dummy in D7". Guess what? I went in swinging whil he rest turned away. Yeah, in a Hunchback, so what?

I'm smarter now. This isn't my Dual AC20 Timberwolf of old. I hang back, mostly(as close to hanging back as I'll get).

So today, I got wrecked 5 minutes in. Lost every wepsys, ams, everything. I backed into a corner and shut down. Guess what? The guy who usually dies first lived thru the loss(who knew that was an achievement?). All the while being berated for not "Dyeing like a man", so to speak.

Anyway, I couldn't believe some of the negative crap I saw. It was stupid.

It's a game. Can't win it alone anymore. I just needed to vent. I guess I am a whiner too.

Such is MW.

See you on the next drop......

You were wrecked, hid and shutdown only to survive and brag about that on the forums?
Did I get it right?

edit: and why am I suddenly on a faction? Didnt join any.

people get mad because the team has a set amount of lives, armour and firepower at the start of the game. the guy that just wololol's at the start puts his team at a disadvantage, and this is a team game.

and a powered down mech is utterly useless. even as a red structure stick you can still scout, cap, block shots etc. don't be that guy.

Even if you're wrecked you can still do something useful for the team like drawing fire while they fight. Every alpha you draw is one less a still combat capable ally has to if you play it smart. Running and doing absolutely nothing doesn't help your team in any way and in a loss just makes enemy teams have to hunt for you wasting everyones time.

Hey welcome man!

Hope you can stick it out, the learning curve is brutal but really rewarding as you catch up. I would recommend dropping with and eventually joining a unit, just being around good players can make a huge improvement in skills.

Don't let em get you to uninstall!

I get berated for dying and berated for surviving. I guess I don't get it.

I guess my complaint is the negativity. I rarely see positive remarks to anyone. I could care less what people think of me personally. Of course I want to be thought of as a team payer, but my version of help and someone else's may differ.

I just find it odd the number of comments I see are by far negative, 90%. That is all.

Shutting down somewhere after being stripped of everything is a useless tactic. What does it gain you? What does it gain the team?

Nothing.

You're simply delaying the inevitable and slowing both your income stream and EXP gain, along with your team mates.

Try to spot, or soak damage if you are stripped of weapons. Maybe you'll get lucky and still survive the match. Or die and spectate for a bit. See if you can learn some things while you do so.

But running off and hiding..? That makes you a d*ck. Don't be a d*ck.

Just play your game bro and take small steps. If you want you can do some drops with me and my unit later to help adjust you to thegame.

Shutting down and delaying the game is actually against the CoC.

Just ignore the haters.

Surprisingly, it isnt.

It seems to be perfectly legal to participate somewhat, hide and shutdown.

I have seen 4-5 others do it. Its where I got the idea. And...I did not hide. We were on the 'Death Star' map(I don't know the real name), I backed up til I hit a wall and shut down. 3 enemy mechs walked by on the way to destroy the base.

I'll just die next time. No biggie. My real complaint is all the negativity. In general, not just for that instance.

The greatest swordsman who ever lived was constantly beaten with a stick as a child. As he grew up and became stronger and faster, a day arrived when his attackers could no longer hit him.

Worry not the nay saying of others... you know you have what it takes. Just hang in there and take your beatings, and one day you will find you are the one delivering the beatings.

As you deliver your crushing blows upon your enemies, you will finally understand the true gift you are giving them.

The school of hard knocks... that's MWO... home to the best mechwarriors in the world.

Depending on the game mode - in skirmish the clock just ticks down the whole 15 mins and by refusing to die you might block someones favorite mech for the remaining duration of the match. Since there are actually... people... who do that to preserve their precious K/D or to RP their Battletech pilot (fine with me, but do that after there are private matches and / or PVE - not in my limited spare time for this game); you might get flamed for that pretty hard.

Viewpoints differ on that; but unless it's conquest; you're in a speedy light mech and have an advantage in points already - you pretty much lost when you're the last one. The most sporting thing you can do is charge in and take as many of the enemy down with you.

Additionally; this weekend is especially nasty - the ongoing challenge has people playing at their worst; and tempers tend to flare once some poor sod has watched his team LRM/snipecaming (and consequentially losing) for the umpteenth time.

If you know anyone who is already playing or are willing to meet up with some of the forum folks here; things will look brighter pretty quick after you got shown some basics :) .

YOLO Rambo isn't beneficial to your team's win ratio, unless you're some kind of mech savant.

They were mad because you contributed nothing, and instead of going up on the frontlines to soak a couple extra bullets, you hid in a corner and probably spammed all-chat.

Welcome in this marvellous community! We all start new player. I think i was a noob for at least 1 year (When i am bad at something, i am REALLY BAD!!!) hehehe!

I don't remember all those whining against my "talents" because it is a game (like you said). But, sometimes, i am as bad as i was (Think of an Atlas who did 1 damage in 5 minutes) and the whining start!! It is marvellous!! HAHAHA! I do like when someone is "angry" at me. Not that i do those prowess voluntary. But when shi.. happens well i prefer laugh and start another match.

I've been in the same situation as you. No weapons, damaged ... not much that it seems you can do.

However, that isn't really true.

If there is a melee going on ... you could be in there ... the other team then wastes some of their fire on you ... while your effective team mates get a chance to kill off the opponent (Also, although very unlikely, I've actually seen an opponent killed by ramming with a mech with no weapons ... there is a very small amount of collision damage that can kill a critically damaged opponent). The more friendly mechs in a melee ... generally the less focused fire from the other team. I've done this in a close game and it made a difference. It doesn't always work since good pilots on the other team are cycling "R" looking for priority targets (e.g. full weapons - red torso) ... and they will ignore you to the end ... but enough folks don't do that so it can be effective.

On the other hand, in conquest or assault, if you are the last one and can't do anything ... it isn't a big deal ... the other team will mostly ignore you and just finish the match. In skirmish, it is a highly irritating behaviour since it keeps everyone waiting and the only benefit to anyone is the mythical effect of avoiding a death on your K/D ratio which means absolutely nothing.
