EDIT:
CLARIFIACTION ON THE POLL:
There seems to be some confusion about what I was intending with the voting options.
When i wrote Re-Vis in the poll, i was referring to my revisualization of the Dragon, not the MWO redesign. The "Original" option refers to MWO's art, not the original TRO art.

I reset the poll. Sorry for the confusion

please read before voting:

Ok. I'm going to be really blunt about this: I'm really not diggin the visual design of the dragon. I mean, I appreciate the effort put into the redesign, since the original TRO art definitely needed one, but I think as things stand, there’s definitely some room for improvement.

For one, the torso looks too wide and squat compared to the legs, as if it should have been positioned higher, to make the proportions feel right. Otherwise, everything seems to stick out oddly. For example, the right arm juts out way too far to the side of the right torso, and the left arm hangs much too low, with the hand almost reaching to the mech's knee. That, and the legs are much too thick, giving the mech a very thunder thingh-ish appearance.

I made my own visualization of the dragon from one of the existing model pics, to better illustrate how I think the proportions should look:

The differences are subtle, but I moved the left and right torsos closer together, moved the right arm closer to the right torso, and changed the shape of the right shoulder to fill out the space between the two sections better. I also thinned out the thighs and the shins, moved the legs slightly closer together, and downscaled the size of the left arm, slightly shifting it's position upward. Overall, I think it makes the mech look more naturally proportioned. The current design however feels slightly reminiscent of some of the more abominable MWDA mech designs, with all the proportions out of whack.

So tell me, which one do you think looks better: my re-vis, the original, or neither?
Vote and discuss! ;)

well as long as everything is kept well in proportion I'll be happy. Just got to make sure we don't up with medium or light mechs being as tall or as wide as an atlas. Also It'd be great if the overall skeleton stayed true to the tech printouts.

For example: Gun mount for arm is usually just an upper arm and shoulder actuator;
Arm with gun for a hand, is a shoulder, upper, and lower arm actuator.

hmm, that actually doesn't look too bad with the AC slung from an arm like that. Definately better than it just coming off the RT.

And it's closer to canon because dragon has lower actuator in right arm.

Art is something personal to everyone. I'm sorry you don't like it. However, your vote shows that it has hit a high note in general. I think it's awesome.

Big fan of the new one. All the redesigns are a lot better so far.

Not a big fan of the new Dragon's shoulders. Torso looks good, but I think it needs bigger shoulders.

I'd say I like both takes on the mechs, it's nice to see different takes on the designs. There's some definite improvement seen with Alex's designs, while some things from the originals look better...but nothing Alex does looks odd or out of place to me.

I wish there was two more options on the poll.

- I like the original better but I'm fine with the re-vis
- I like the re-vis but I'm fine with the original.

Yeah, I think I unintentionally made the poll options confusing. Re-vis was supposed to refer to my re-vis of the mech, and the "original" option was supposed to refer to MWO’s original design. So in the context of my post, the poll was actually in favor of what I changed to the design, and not what the devs made. I realized that the wording was confusing, and people might have actually been intending to vote the other way, so I reset the poll and gave it clearer options.

I like FlyingDebris' reimagining. It's fine. Your redux is fine, too. But I'll stick to the "original redux".

Honestly, the only problem I have with it is the Autocannon arm. I really want it to have an elbow or something, it seems a little out of place.
Besides that minor issue, I love the new design.

I think MWO version is good, wish it was a bit less fat, but to be honest I actually prefer Mechwarrior IV's design.

The MWO version of the dragon finally attains a look that the original could have had, but just missed the mark. There was an awesome looking mech in there somewhere instead of the semi-goofy original dragon. Now if only they could revise the loadout to match the look...

Thinning out the thighs on a heavy mech is something I would want to pass on. The problem with some designs is that they are not very proportionate.

I like it. I like a lot of the bulky look that they are going for with these mech re-imaginings. It looks like a heavily armored war machine.

@Strayed
David White's rendition is more Zeus than Dragon

@stonerhino
While not the biggest fan of the MWO Dragon, this is still concept art. Seeing it rendered in 3D in engine could very well change everyone's opinions. I find these threads pointless. So much can and will change between now and finalization of the model.

Wouldn't that win favours with House Steiner crowd? ;) Yeah I suppose but I don't know I still kind of like the aesthetics. Looks like its going to have a mean bite with that large gun barrel.

On a side note, wonder how arms will change if we put different weapons on it?

The Dragon is noted as being "squat and thick" in the fluff, and the MWO design holds true to this.
