I've been trying to get Mechwarrior online to work on my laptop for a while now and only get around 4-12 fps in game. Needless to say, its impossible to play, even on the lowest settings. I even checked my specs on MWO on http://www.systemrequirementslab.com and I meet even the recommended settings. Please help me! I really want to play this game again.

Disabling my ESET antivirus does nothing to help fps. Also checked task manager and no other heavy duty tasks are running. I have no idea what is going on!

It's your CPU speed I'm guessing. MWO is CPU intensive and seems to not be optimized to use multiple cores. I run at 20 - 30 fps (15 - 25 in CW matches) with a 3.4 Ghz quad core processor. That's at 1600x1200 with every option set to low or off.

Some have seen a performance boost by disabling hardware acceleration in Flash (play a Flash video, r. click on video to open options). At 2.3 Ghz I'm not sure if, or how much, it may help you.

I'm not going to pretend to have a lot of computer knowledge, but my laptop has a CPU speed of 2.1 GHz, and runs the game pretty reasonably. I usually get around 25-29 fps, with drops to 15 fps during intense fighting. Al setting as low as possible ofcourse.

intel core i7-3612qm for those of you with more pc-knowhow ;)

Are you running in 64 bit with Direct X 11?

Have you adjusted virtual memory?

Your problem is you have mobile hardware, mobile CPUs and GPUs are a much lesser version of their desktop equivalents.

Should we be? I heard 64bit and dx11 is buggy with this game.

Should we? lol

Also i heard this game doesn't use 4 cores. Would it make sense to disable 2 or 3 cores on an i2700k allowing a higher overclock?

The game lags because PGI are completely incompetent programmers. From my observations their team consist completely of (admitted good) artist.

The game is not optimized in the slightest.

I can run most new games on high and can run BF3, FC3, Witcher 2, and many other far better looking games without issue but MWO constantly drops frames and barely runs beyond 30 fps on average.

I run at and below 10 FPS on my laptop also, but mine is below spec. That being said, I can't get enough of the game. Yes, I'm performing below my ability, but I making the best of it until I get my game rig. In the meantime I try to stay out of heavier mechs so my lowered performance isn't too much of a hinderance to the team.

The recommended stats aren't really tied to reality.

You might want to try to increase your settings tbh, highest setting is better optimized. At least for me when I reduce from max settings to medium or low settings I end up with a 20-30 fps drop

Thanks, it helped a little bit disabling hardware acceleration. I went from 10fps to 17.5 fps. Still not good enough to actually game, though. I'm still getting knocked down to 6fps for quick turns. Are there any more tips to squeeze some more performance out of my system?

Hey, make sure your game is running on the AMD GPU and not the intel one. Laptops with switchable graphics can run on the wrong GPU sometimes. In the AMD control centre you can choose which programs run on which GPU, and also set the profile there to favour the AMD GPU by default

I had a similar laptop and I was getting 40-60FPS On max settings (i7 4700mq and 8970m which is the same as a 7970m but 50Mhz faster I think)

ALso make sure Windows power profile is on HIgh Performance

One question. Is your laptop plugged in to an outlet. If your running on just the battery then thats the problem.

You might have to throw caution to the wind and try some user.cfg tweaking.

My machine used to average 15fps or so on lowest settings, and I managed to get it to around 20-25 with tweaking. That thread is a behemoth, and user.cfg options don't always work after patches, but you've got nothing to lose.

I have two PCs that can run MWO, and I've not had problems running 64 bit and DX11, but I also keep the settings low.

However, this depends on your system so it can be a case by case basis, in my case it works better than running MWO in 32.

Only reason being to have the Page File Size remain static. Otherwise if something occurs to force a resize than that can impact performance.

As for the cores, I dunno.

Thanks, man. That suggestion you had improved my fps to about 16fps in an actual match. All I had to do was to go to my switchable graphics card settings and set MWO to the "High Performance" setting. If only I can squeeze out 10 more fps I should be able to play this game and not suck.

If anybody else has some tips or tricks to improve fps, keep em coming. I'm a bit hesitant to root around in the user.cfg files, but I'm open to any minor tweaks that would survive patches.

You did not do what he said, though. Go in the AMD control panel (not the Intel one) and make sure the MWO profile is set to use the 7970M, not the Intel HD4000.

The 7970M should be running this game on High settings, easily.

Open your laptop and clean out the dust..
It helped me.
http://mwomercs.com/...ally-messed-up/
Or try to overclock your GPU\MEM to gain 5-10 more fps.
That''s all my advice.
