Wow…just Wow...I usually drop in German / Russian Prime Time, and always have a good time there, but tonight I dropped in US PrimeTime, and this is the chat that scrolled:

“We’re gonna **** your ***”

“I’m gonna ***** in your *****”

“**** and ***** and **** and ****”

And on and on in the same vein, just a bunch of foul-mouthed junior high school epithets that I don’t want or need to read, much less my kids or grand-kids, who regularly watch me play when I do, albeit it less and less.

Instant disconnection. I can take good-natured ribbing, even in foreign languages, but the trash that was scrolling tonight from these kiddies was just too much to take and never happens in German or Russian. I guess those guys are just better mannered. Unbelievable that PGI hasn’t built in a “foul” filter for uncouth Americans in the chat.

Then again, unbelievable that PGI hasn’t done a lot of things that are simply expected of games since, oh, fifteen years ago. What a travesty. Total fail, PGI, total freaking fail. Will not spend, ever, while this crap exists.

Welcome to the interwebs.

Better get some callouses on your ears. But really, as far as other online games go, MWO is really tame and friendly.

You aren't in Kansas anymore, this is Canada, and apparently the land of hate-speech if the forums and game chat is a measure.

I don't get to enjoy this kind of anonymity. Everyone knows me.
And those who don't soon do.

All they have to do is add a basic filter and let the user add or remove words from it. Then its up to the end user what words they see. If they have kids playing with them they can run a very tight filter.

Interesting...I personally do not drop in US prime time due to 14 hours of time difference. Anyway, chat filter is needed, yes.

To those folks that reply "just deal with it" or "k'thnx bai" and don't see the point in the OP's message...

... what would Sarah say?

This isn't Call of Duty, we get plenty of people that play with their kids watching or even play with their kids. A filter would be a very nice touch.

Please don't make the developers waste time adding a swear word filter that will probably, somehow, inexplicably break the game.

Language filters don't work. Between how easy it is to circumvent them with slight misspellings, and the large number of international players using different languages, there is little point. The best option is already in your game settings, which allows you to disable different parts of the chat. You should use them, especially if you have people watching you play. All chat never has anything worth reading in it anyway.

As someone who manages an email and web filter, it isn't "that easy". You have to capture iteration, phrases, replaced characters , etc. An ignore is an easier solution... If you didn't have to friend them first. Even better, intelligent chat that pre-ignores repeat offenders.

A Franchise marketed to 30+ year olds needs a filter?

I rather they get CW out of Beta and fix the Summoner, first...

You can disable all chat if you have thin skin.

You people somehow think adding something as miniscule as a chat filter will somehow hurt? What, won't you have your audience to hear you make a fool of yourself? Grow up. And I'm not even into my 20's and I'm having to tell you guys this (although I won't be able to make that statement for too much longer).

1. You have the option to type offensive language. Choose not to, trust me, it won't kill you.
2. Don't insult or undermine people for finding OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE to be OFFENSIVE. Seriously...
3. Make a game's environment more player friendly before you add new things. Nobody wants a shiny new toy if it's covered in sewage. (Although people who covered themselves in said sewage probably won't mind...)

It's almost like people can turn off chat if they are so sensitive, or even funnier think their kids or young relatives don't hear and likely use the same language outside their view.

You can turn of the various chats in the settings. Would only take a moment at startup. They probably should hotkey that too.

Edit. plus if you had a screenshot of that, you can turn it into support. Enough of that will get a ban on someone.
