I like the Mauler, but the tricky part to that mech is the hitboxes. The side torsos seem massive with those shoulder missile launchers. It may be a terrible XL machine. Heck, it may even suffer some Awesome hitbox woes in general with how stocky it is.

PGI is going to have to be real creative to make a mech that looks like a Mauler, but will be balanced enough in the hitbox department.

I definitely second the Assassin. Another 40 tonner would be lovely to have. And very useful for Drop Decks to boot. I mean, I admit I am a Cicada Fanboy (and REALLY want the variant, which is @this time, that has Jump Jets!). But still!

Black Knight for sure. Absolutely adore this mech due to MW4: Mercs

Also second the Crab. For the reasons above.

One of the issues is the 3 mechs to master thing. If we would not be bound to this, we would have more 3049 tech mechs furfilling the timeline because we do not need 3 valid variants furfilling the timeline.

Just like the Urbanmech, you need to find a 'Mech that the community knows, cares about, is held in reverence and is willing to get behind for support.

I do not know if anyone would have gotten behind and pushed for another 'Mech like the Urbanmech. That is the single biggest thing you have to overcome.

My suggestion would be to review and pick as a community, a light, medium, heavy and an assault 'Mech as a package. This way you please all weight classes and remove that huge stumbling block.

The Devastator also has an XL engine that I am sure most pilots will shartcan the minute they have in the Mechlab. Definately a sniper assault. Also if 3 mech varient is an issue just create another Varient , any opportunity to expand the Battletech Universe Positively will only make it better overall.

Need to focus on mechs that will bring something to the game we don't have yet...

Javelin - Inner Sphere light that jumps and can bring 12 SRMs of pain? Sure.
Assassin - Inner Sphere could use another 40 ton mech, and the Assassin brings almost Spider like mobility.
Viper/Dragonfly - Fast, medium-weight jumper for the clans.
Shadowcat - Fast, mid-weight clan mech with MASC. Also a fan favorite.
Kingfisher - Fills in the vacant 90 ton weight class for the clans. Also gives us a clan mech with a standard engine, no cries of P2W here.
Executioner/Gladiator - Fast clan assault with MASC and jump jets, also fills in the 95 ton weight class.

Well PGI now can make him thin, after Awesome, lol.
So...

I see lots of people suggesting unseens (I thought we understood this was a no go to avoid legal trouble with HG) and stuff way beyond 3050 or melee mechs when there is no melee or plans for it in the forseable future.

I am a huge fan of the cauldron born, even though it says it was designed in 3049 it didn't see deployment till it showed up in the 3055 readout as re-enforcements for the clans.

Crusher Joe and Fangs of the Sun trademarks expired which is why we see those mechs in the game now. Harmony Gold (or whoever) still protects / pays for whatever the trademarks on Macross/Robotech.

Unless there is an agreement with PGI we'll probably never see: Wasp Stinger Valkyrie Phoenix Hawk Crusader Rifleman Archer (sad face)
Warhammer Longbow Marauder (sad face) Marauder II

Also, you can always get support for the Urbanmech IIC.

Let's play...pick out the assets.

I see some Atlas in there (legs)
Awesome (arms)
Hunchback (missile launchers)
Thunderbolt??? (Cockpit??)

Can't make out the torso.

In any case, a bit too blocky for me. Hopefully official artwork would look a bit sleeker.

Still, I applaud the effort.

I want the Crab. We have King Crabs but no peasant mechs to boss around. The King Crab needs subjects!

p.s.- That is a cool Assassin pic Stefka.

I have to admit, I don't see the appeal of the Crab. It's a 50 ton laser boat that's going to translate into the game like an IS version of the Nova, (low slung laser arms anyone? How about a side of too wide body to go with that?), and it's just plain goofy looking. Am I missing something here?

A really cool picture, but if what PGI came up with resembled that, avoid XL engines at all cost. :)

Yeah XL on assault is a bad idea in MWO.
But I think it is time for him. It'll be fun tho!

Guillotine would fit... but I don't think the load outs vary enough. Always fond of the look though.
