Etymology
The word marine is from the English adjective marine, meaning of the sea, via French marin(e), of the sea from Latin marinus ("of the sea") itself from mare (“sea”), from Proto-Indo-European *móri (“body of water, lake”) (cognate with Old English mere (“sea, lake, pool, pond”), Dutch meer, German Meer, all from Proto-Germanic *mari).[8]

The word marine was originally used for the forces of England and exact one-word translations for the term do not exist in many other languages except for the Dutch word marinier. Typically, foreign equivalents are called naval infantry or coastal infantry. In French-speaking countries, two phrases exist which could be translated asmarine, troupes de marine and fusiliers-marins; similar pseudo-translations exist elsewhere, e.g., Fuzileiros Navais in Portuguese. The word marine/marina means "navy" in many European languages such as Dutch, French, Italian, German, Danish and Norwegian.

Sailor, i know what a marine is..now you do to..

If you've not been a Marine, You don't know what a Marine is!

Push PUGs out of CW?

Its like a spartan desert plain complete with rolling tumble weeds as it is with all the so called harcore premade's.

Hello

I guess I am one of thos PUGS that soem people don't like - I have quite a few MWO friends and own 16 mechs plus the ones coming with the Resistance Wrath Package very soon.

I like playing the CW games - its looks cool, uts fun, dropships are cool, etc etc. I tend to follow plans and help where I can - not sure why I should be "forced out" just because my computer does not have comms....

See you on the battlefeld - I hope

I had the worst match in CW last night I've ever had. We were defending on Sulfurous Rift. On the first push from the enemy, they were able to take down Omega without taking out all of the Generators. We were mostly pugs. I think 4 guys with 12DG on our team might have been on comms. The other team was split MS and another group, I don't recall who. They attacked us from Gamma and Alpha on the first push and the Gamma side walked straight through to Omega Match was over in less than 3 minutes.

There will be matches like that until we're all on Voip, and even then, Pugs still won't be evenly matched. You can't take a team of Pugs and expect to overcome a group that play with the same people daily or at least weekly. A lot of these teams have been practicing together in group drops for 2 years. You can't overcome that with Pugs. Occasionally, the organized team will make a mistake and a loosely organized team of Pugs will win, but it's rare.

That actually makes you one of the PUGs that people like.

The PUGs people dislike are those who do their own thing and treat CW like the PUG Queue and run off to do their own thing regardless of what the rest are doing. And care little about the faction they're "fighting" for.

CW is for team players, which you sound like you are.

So yes, I do hope to see you on the battlefield.

Not disputing any of your post, Sulfurous in under 3 mins is totally doable. Bolded part, however, should be impossible - unless you mean the gate generators and not the O-gens? Because otherwise Omega should have been untouchable.

PUGs aren't the problem, newcomers are. CW is much more competitive than normal games and require leadership, acknowledgement, coordination and some skill.

My suggestion: Make a minimum requirement to play CW, like 50, maybe 100 normal games played.

I've seen people playing their very first MWO match in Community Warfare, because the popup window seemed more attractive than the Play Now button.

I wish I had taken a screen shot, but Omega canon gen went down while the middle gen was still up. Maybe the map is broken?

I'm curious... what would a CW tutorial do that is not already done by hundreds/thousands of threads currently in MWOmercs.com?

Consider the nature and personality of Pugs when answering this.

oh you mean like actually explaining the game in game for those not intuitive enough to log on to the completely separate forums....?

This would help no doubt about it. And the nature of new players is exactly why its needed in game rather than on the forums.

Just have pop up advice automatically for the first 25 matches or button clicks in the mechlab explaining basic points.
