Lets see:

Exactly 1.2 WLR.

I have conquered the matchmaking. Get on my level. :D

You are conquering what has already been conquered.
W/L , 3037 / 2402 (1.26 over all)

- nova (333/226 = 1.47)
- adder ( 109/77 = 1.41)
- dwf ( 447/316 = 1.41)
- smn (270/212 = 1.27)
- kfx ( 476/393 = 1.21)

ALL PUG.

Jokes aside... these stats mostly show that i (and you) have been lucky with the teammates we had. ( and a little bit personal skill ;))

It only says "make the next match harder" if you won and matchmaker predicted you'd lose.

And that prediction is based on matches that in the pub queue are frankly more in the hands of 11 other people than your own. Take for example, there was a challenge a few months back where we had to reach 50 wins. The common knowledge exploit to get 50 wins fast and easy was to drop into a match with the fastest, lightest mech possible, run directly at the enemy, die, and repeat. 100 or so matches later, and you got the reward. Some guys were doing it in just a couple of hours. Bombing the match on purpose had absolutely no bearing on their win/loss ratio because there were always 11 other guys on their teams taking the game seriously.

So imagine these are new players playing their first 100 matches. If players purposely throwing matches end up winning half of them regardless, the same is happening for all the new guys with no skill. MM sees on match 101 that the new player in his stock Atlas has a w/l of 1.0 and drops him in a lance next to the vet, where he and the other 10 guys have to carry the match down 100 tons a minute in. Again, for seemingly the 100th match in a row.

My point is, elo works for truly single player games like chess. It fails with a game like mwo. We need a matchmaker, but not this one.

A luck aint no luck until you take advantage of it. :P Great job with the bad trio of Nova/Summoner/Adder.

Out of the 35 games I played yesterday, I qualified with 25 of them. That was a with a non-meta Hellbringer I equipped with ECM, TAG, 2xLRM15+A and 6xSPL. It's more for farming c-bills than anything, but yesterday afternoon outrageously competitive very fast around 7PM CST.

Amusingly, my first 14 games ALL qualified, and gave me an average of 270k c-bills per match, then the night's matches turned to crap and I could only get 11/21. My average c-bills dropped below 250k per match by the end of the night, and stabilized right around it. It's like the matchmaker decided I was winning too much (~1.6 W/L ratio over the past 24 hours, at 2.0 for quite some time) and started handing me ROFLstomps I had no chance of winning, even if I brought the most carry-licious Timbie laservomit.

My take is that the matchmaker does the predictive 50/50, but only seems to refresh your ELO rating every hour or so. If you have a string of wins within a few hours, it takes a while to play catch up then starts handing you a string of unwinnable horribad matchups in order to force your W/L down. The quality of teammates took a massive nosedive to compensate for my too-high W/L, to the point where my team had only one or two people in a unit, (Usually an easy predictor of new/casual players) paired up against an entire team who was in well known units. The results were all but predetermined.

So when you get a string of wins, make sure to capitalize on it and try to earn as many c-bills as possible, because it will eventually be time to pay the piper. The piper's rates can be exorbitant.

Well i guess from the start the MM did put me on some streak. I dropped from x.67 to almost x.60 in just a few days, while i havent changed my playstyle.

Spoiler

I though PGI had ruled out these kind of things.

Well i am getting there, but the first (almost 10 matches) shows that the MM just likes to put me on streak when i gain too much.

I am trying to make any kill assists when possible, but people running in front of you - or leaving you behind that stinks.

In the space of one day earlier this week, a tree fell onto a ski lift. Another fell on a different run. Temperatures were +10 celsius. Friends uncle triggered an avalanche and fell down a small cliff. Snowpack is way below seasonal average.

In conclusion the Rapture is happening.

I'll preface this by saying I consider myself "above average to moderately skilled." If I run a meta build, I can do serious damage. Easy 1000+ rounds if I'm up against a sub-par team. However I'm only trying to farm c-bills, something that is done easiest in a cheesy LRM/TAG boat, so I'm just running a hybrid LRM/SPL boat.

My current stats:

Wins / Losses 1,747 / 1,364 (That's 1.28... I had over 1.3 a week ago before playing with my nephew)
Kill / Death Ratio 1.88

Matchmaker must have **** the bed, giving me lots of easy matches. I had a 2.0 W/L ratio after about 25 games.

Later that day... It woke up! I got so many 12-0 and 0-12 matches, it started to frustrate me. There would be times where I'd never actually come face to face with an enemy because my team stomped them out before I could get into the fight.

OP: That's just you playing badly. Your average damage a drop is 329 and your kills per drop is .428. You were dragging your team down, not pulling it upwards.

Come back when you are averaging about 500 damage a drop and then you can repeat your thread. You have a long way to go.

What i said is exactly why you cannot top the damage, because you do not get the chance to do it.

Well, ive played about 104 matches in assaults, my WL is 48/52 in assaults, its 50/56 overall. ......

and any time I get within about 4 games of 50/50, its wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe........ive been as close as 2 games from 50/50, then its a series of 2/12 wipes to ensure I dont get over the top...and elo isnt rigged...

Yeah, they're not wipes to ensure you don't get over the top, that's ridiculous. That would imply that the matchmaker is _vastly_ more complicated than it is, and is somehow making that match all about you. Its not. Its a simple algorithm really, and is just building matches of similarly rated players as well as it can with the players currently available in the queue.

Its not out to get you. It doesn't care about you.

Yeah, not everyone has meta-Timbies to allow them to animation-glitch their way to carry heaven. I instantly ignore any post that says, "Carry Harder" when they post a Direwolf or TimberWolf as their chosen mech. Both make carrying about five times easier. Why else to all the top players choose them?

Yeah, like I said above, the MM doesn't care about you. It doesn't arrange things so that you'll lose, in fact its goal with every match is to get as close to even odds as it can, and then adjust your Elo as appropriately as possible after.

It doesn't ever "make you lose", because you're not a special snowflake. You're just one of 24 players its cramming into a match.

Gibberish? Say what? Keep telling yourself that. I have game after game after game after game of bad drops where I get pugfuqed™ and 5 - 7 of them do sub-200 damage, a couple do 300 and I'm doing 600 - 1000 damage. Try again please.

And my team still lost. Being the only player on the team that gets a few kills doesn't help enough.

My point still stands. He has a lot of room to try harder.

I like events. But it needs to be though out. So far it has been improved, but not good enough.

Not that i care about the event, but it shows that MM is borked. It was from the start.

Timberwolf is not required. It can be done in any 'mech, including tiny ones like blackjacks. The SHD-2K does an exceptionally good job at it (and not being a wussy hidey-hole sniper).

80% of matches qualify, yey!

And light que is always around 6%

Allright. Your point:
"Everyone has to do 600 or more damage!!111!"
Exactly man. Damage says everything. Everything!

Can i have your glass orb?

Bottom line is: You cant predict any match outcome. The MM likes you - or not. Streaks happens.

But the TEAM is one huge factor, not you in your single mech scoring over 400 damage.

Something you DONT even get the chance to be the teamplayer.

I agree only to an extent. I have had godly, 1100+ annihilations with my BJ-1X. However, it doesn't have the advantages that a Timbie has. Namely:

1) Armor - 156 points more, to be exact
2.) Borked jump animations - still not fixed, used to advantage in tournaments
3.) Firepower - not disputable. Clan laservomit wins, ton for ton.
4.) Jump Jets available on all models - the BJ-1X is the only BJ that is much faster than the TBR, but has no JJ. TBR has no sych limitations.
5.) Clan XL - Hopelessly better than IS XL.

BJ has:

1.) Option for more speed, but only on one model, the 1X at 116kph. The others are locked to 93kph, only 4 more than the TBR.
2.) Higher mounted weapons. A big one, but doesn't come close to changing the disperaty between the two mechs.
3.) Lower duration weapons. LPLs on BJs are their saving grace, as is the AC20 if you're into that.
4.) Smaller model - Helps, but doesn't make up for the IS XL being a deathtrap when against decent opponents.

Your second recommendation, the SHD-2K is well known to me, and along with the SHD-2H was used to allow me to climb to #6 in the IS Medium division. However, I disagree that it is great as anything more than a mid to long range skirmisher and hidey hole sniper. If caught at close range by anything with reasonable brawling capabilities and with a decent pilot, it can't do damage fast enough to come out on top. Timbie doesn't have that problem with LPL and MPL spam.

Arguing that somehow the Timbie isn't an OP god-tier mech is fruitless however at this point. It does almost everything better than any comparable mech.
