Meta minmaxed builds are the only viable competitive builds for the discerning 1337 comp player.

I think the worst word in gaming is:

Cheese.

Why? Because it is a derogatory way to refer to something that is effective. When you shovel snow, do you gripe about the guy with a snowblower, saying that he's using cheese? Do you whine about how cheesy it is that someone doing his taxes has all his documents organized, instead of a shoebox full of random receipts? Do you wash your dishes in the sink, with cold water, and no soap because all that other stuff is cheese for people that don't want to get clean dishes in a way you think is "fair"?

Trying to look down on things that work, IMO, is one of the worst thing to happen in gaming.

I look down on the guy when he acts like he did all the work, when the snowblower did most of it.

It's not about using the most effective tool, it's using the tool, then acting like it was your skill alone that made things happen.
I don't care if someone want's to use a TWolf or 9S. But don't brrag about your score after. Using those you SHOULD have the a high match score. Just like the guy with the snowblower SHOULD clear his driveway fast. Congrats, you were efficient.

The guy that clears his driveway faster with a shovel than the guy with the snowblower? Him, I'll give a cookie. Ditto the guy who runs a Vindi and outscores 6 TWolfs 4 Dire Wolves, 3 Storm Crows, etc.

And that's way different still than the guy who rides a broken game mechanic, and expects a pat on the back.

Guess I'm just lactose intolerant.

And I agree with that. But the crowd screaming "Cheese!" has pretty much the EXACT same attitude as the "Stop having fun the wrong way!" crowd.

If you want to use the most effective stuff in the game you can get your hands on? So long as you have fun, great. You just want to run what you're comfortable with? So long as you have fun, great. You want to challenge yourself and deliberately use sub-optimum stuff? So long as you have fun, great.

But if you want to tell others they are wrong for having fun doing something you disapprove of? Too freakin' bad. And if you aren't having fun, just stop playing.

Hell, when I see people with just straight up bad builds, even if the concept is horrible, I'll give them hints on tweaking it for better performance. (The worst offenders are the ones running big LRM launchers with unused missile hardpoints, multiple small launchers cycle faster, and are sometimes lighter.)

Oh, I agree.

It's just usually the guy running "cheese" is also usually the guy running his mouth about his "skill". Just seems to usually go hand in hand.

And hey, I ain't above "cheese", myself. I've run BoomJagers, lob LRMs, etc. But of course, the issue is, the people who cry "cheese" usually QQ about anything that kills them. And won't admit that those designs have huge weaknesses and flaws that can be exploited.

Have a former teammate who preferred to drive Assaults. Always would just leroy jenkins into the open, no cover, etc...and usually die to enemy LRMs. Then he'd rail about how OP and broken and the lack of skill, etc....when the reason he died was he kept making bad decisions, and refused to adapt and learn..... rather than LRMs being inherently cheesy (inherently ineffective, is what they are, lol).

IDK, I find "meta", "1337", "viable", "minmax", "competitive" all just about as bad.

Honestly I find those, with the possible exceptions of "viable" and and "competitive" to be many-times worse, you should also add "skill", "noob", and "ggclose" to the list while you're at it.

I'm doing just fine, thank you very much. 19 mechs, almost all with engines, mostly XLs, enough modules to fit 5-6 mechs at a time, and even some camos and cockpits items from MC events and such. Doing just fine.

I might add such childish thinks like "LURM"...why add a letter to an acronym? Things like that scream,"Teehee, I am funny and in touch with game lingo". Also the o7, hh and glhf-because A: It seems forced or almost obligatory and tries to put some sense or honor or respect into a game that always turns into- B: All of the same guys that type that pregame, flaming everyone that didn't meat shield for them as NOOB, losers, idiots ect. Same goes for everyone that didn't listen to their sage advice like-"Rush the middle, get in there" on therma/skirmish or "get to the hill" on alpine.

Why do they say that when they don't respect the other players, they don't care about the other player's kills and they definitely hate the fact that the other players lived and they died.

Sounds like you have a really thin skin.

I say "o7" at the start of almost every match, and "gg" at the end of almost every match. Because I try to be a sportsman about things. On Therma I tell people, "if you go middle, push in and move to a side, dont clog entry", because, surprise, everyone forming a fuster cluck in an entry way blocks friendlies from firing out, but doesn't stop anyone from firing in. And I'll give people pointers for their mech builds (hell, if I was as good a pilot as an engineer, I'd be unstoppable... unfortunately, I am very stoppable). And when people s*** talk the team, I stick up for people.

You apparently, deride attempts to help people and display sportsmanship. All because some people are acidic? I dunno. I don't know what your problem is. And no one is paying me to fix it. gg.

Well ... what are the MWO "placeholder" features?

Experience system ... especially the Pinpoint skill and others than do NOTHING. The XP system was a closed beta "placeholder" :)

Role warfare ... this is a "placeholder" since although they talk about it ... very little has been done about it. Quirks could have been a way to help define roles but they went for combat bonuses in general which I agree are more likely to appeal to more players.

Any other "placeholders"?
