So when I'm in my DWF, a 100-ton assault that's supposed to lead the front line, why do you team mates shoot me from behind? I got shot by 3 volleys from my own team in the rear while I was killing 2 enemies in front. My team turned my right torso orange in the rear while the enemy yellowed my center in the front. Not long after my team wandered away and a stray enemy shot hit my rear orange torso and game over. Had my team not been a hindrance, that stray shot would not have done me in. If you don't want my DWF taking the front line, how am I being useful?

You're a direwolf. Turn around and return the favor like only a direwolf can.

Usually happens in the new bracket, and in tournaments. I swear sometimes I take more FF damage during tournaments than I take from the other team. Tournaments seem to bring out the worst in people. In fact in the previous tournament I saw an attempt at TK for the first time in probably 6 months or more. The pilot trying to TK was crying about kill stealing because it was a tournament.

It's worse when your in a light mech, you accidentally shoot your assault mech teammate your about to apologize and he/she turns around and returns the favour by shearing all the armour off my arm....

I'd be curious to know what the community wide friendly-fire damage per match is, but this thread shows some insight. Granted, I'm sure people who have horrid friend-fire damage scores weren't posting on there. That said, it seems to be a lot lower than people assume. I think the confusion comes because lots of players have minimal rear armor, so getting scraped by your allies feels like they beat the tar out of you.

I don't know, I've had my YLW's right arm (completely undamaged) blown off by a team mate on a number of occasions because they come up the corridor behind me and open fire without checking. Again, it is almost always in tournaments these days. Most of the time it is pretty minimal I think.

bear in mind some of those hits are arm mounted weapons clipping too. Trying to shoot past some med/heavy fool that has to move in front my 4xac5 crabs corner peak has resulted in one arm collecting it even though my aim was clear by nearly 1/4 of a screen

I ran some numbers based on my performance in the Merc event that just finished, since it tracked and displayed friendly fire. Average for 150 odd games, 4. Worst, 42. About a third had no damage, about a third had 1 damage.

**** happens. Once. After the second time, do unto others.

FF is an unfortunate aspect of all combat. In addition it can take awhile for people to get a good idea of their weapon's lines of fire, especially with the out of scale cockpit views and it's lack of periphery vision.

Lastly, the typical mech approach has the group move in a line front to back, frequent meet points for opposing mech groups tend be choke points that frequently won't allow for more than 2 friendly mechs to move through. This means, the inherent need and desire to focus fire on threats at the choke point results in players trying to squeeze shots past the lead mechs...and unfortunately it means a few nips in the rear.

At least you are in an assault. I can't count the number of times I'm getting shot at from behind cause I am chasing away lights (FROM THE SAME GUY I JUST CHASED THEM FROM). Or if I'm running back to my team, they don't care to look at whether I am a friendly or not. Fear and a trigger happy finger brings a alphas into my chest more often then not.

FF has several reasons. One is people doing it intentionally, others don't know it and others don't care

The past 3 weekends have seen the Cataphract Champion Challenge, a return to it last weekend, and a free MC promo most of this weekend. People get stupid and disregard good play habits in favor of bad ones for these things, and they've now had 3 weekends in a row of rewarding bad play and rewarding a gaming of the system.

I preferred the Challenge of "Get X Wins to Earn a Free {Fill-in-the-Blank}", because this rewarded good play. The only caveat I could add to it is that it should also put a stipulation of being connected the entire match. That way there's no join, disconnect, join another match to try to farm wins hoping the other 11 guys will carry you.

I think PGI should make minimum of 3 minutes for weapons to come online. like you in the past few days I have bin TKed twice and once hade my right side blown off By FF few seconds after drop from people testing there weapons and all you get is (DUDE IM SORRY) its like how do you not see
your team member in front you and why are you testing weapons . they are not going to sell you broken weapon and to test them .. that's what the testing grounds are for.

It is time for the game to display friendly-fire amounts on the main game-summary for all players to see.

20 seconds is enough. Lights can race forward in 2 minutes

Funny that, because usually when I take FF it's from a Dakkawhale pilot just blindly blazing away with no regard for friendly mechs in the line of fire.

I had a party back last night in CW try to shoot through my TDR 2 or 3 times with all his lazors....so i got behind him and alphaed him...then wrote in chat.

**** stop shooting me in the back or i will TK you...

He literally never noticed anything....he never noticed he shot me. Never noticed i shot him and about 15 seconds later was wondering how his back got cored when he is in the DropZone..... :P

Aside from a lobotomy i dont know how to help individuals like this....

They have made it so you can see it...but i guess people dont understand its THEM doing all that team dmg.

I think they need to dock cbills for it....once you get over 55 pts of dmg you loss 100,000. Would curb Alpha warrior a bit and maybe even be a reason not to kill your Teammates for that Solo Kill trigger!

Ehh as a light pilot you expect it. I've been tkd a few times and it's part of the game as far as I'm concerned. I remember a few times I've taken heavy damage as I've been up close in the brawl. Live with it, get on with it, try and try not to stand in the way too much, equally if you see a blue dorito, don't shoot it unless it's shooting you.

I was thinking that you get hit more by FF in a light mech not that you FF more with a light mech.

I experience the former more than the latter. As a raider/recon unit I am frequently not located with the main body of my team. And as such sometimes I need to rejoin my team with haste (being chased by a Skillcrow streakboat for example)

In one match exactally that happened.I moved behind enemy lines in my trusty (over quirked) Huggin and took down a Direwolf from behind. This illicets the response from a streakboat Stormcrow so I bug out with all the haste I can muster. As I run basicaly through the enemy lines to rejoin my team I fire off a UAV and drop an arty strike in their midst to apply a distraction to enhance my survival.I am carefull watching my mini map on my HUD so I don't cross friendly fire lanes as I approach.

So I jet over a hill at an oblique angle over and past a friendly Zeus (all this manuver was specificly so I would not cross the Zeus' fire lane)

The Zeus pivots and fires on me taking my leg off.

Do puggies even realize there is HUD or that the bad guys are the red doritos and the blue doritos are your friends (I even had a UAV up! he could clearly see who was who if he only bothered to look)

FF sucks, you have to watch your positioning and be in the gun line not in front of it.

If some blockhead decided to shoot his teammates on purpose and keeps shooting you or others on the team....he gets what he gets: open fire.

Having said that; I try to leg those "special" gold mechs on site....I don't care what team they're on.
