Night of Shadow: Until the advent of Omni-mechs, BattleTechnology tends to be like building tanks and fighters in the modern day. Once built, a piece of equipment tends to stay in the same configuration with only minor changes, such as swapping out radios or detection gear. So 'customizing a loadout' isn't something that happens for every mission, or even for most; it's expensive, and finicky, and can cripple your 'mech if you try to do it too often.

Most MechWarriors in the BTU learn to use tactics to maximize their advantages while minimizing the enemy's, based around their fixed loadouts. Sometimes that puts you at a disadvantage - like being a ranged striker in a jungle or urban setting - but you work with what you've got, since you can't change it easily.

i dont mean every misson anyway i do tend to optimize my loadout and only swap between weapons i already own as a safety ok lets just say delta lance needed for a long range job but i have no long range weapons equiped but i own some plus ammo if it's a ballistic type thats what im getting at, so not constant put occasionaly swap weapons plus i can see yours and merovigians point thank you for pointing it out me it will cripple the night walker severly if done too often and i dont want a crippled mech in the field and like you said "work with what you got" my complete build has mostly long-medium range capabilites and all most nill close combat survival at all with the exception of the dual PPC's i have equiped so thats something i guess plus i only chage it if i really have to you last resort kinda thing so the loadout stays the same all the time unless it has to change really like my suspense AC which has only one changeing weapon on it and i'll tell you merovigians AC he will know what im refering to is just a nightmare to kill i've only beaten it three time while it killed me twenty plus or more times and he tells me he made it so it does not die at all definetly proven

anyway back subject yeah it only changes as a last resort thats all
thanks for the talking to merovigian and ian

In this era, I would run with 2 things.
"Bullyboy"
FLS-7KFlashman modified to have PPCS instead of the arm lasers, and replace remaining lasers with Pulse lasers, add an AMS, ECM and switch to double heatsinks to lose the weight. Extensive mods, I know. But DURABLE.

"Unseelie"
A custom Jobbie. 45T 6/9/5. Carries a Retractable blade in the left arm, a Large laser in the right, 1 SRM4 in each side, and TAG.
To do this I needed Double Heat sinks again, but she's fragile with her IS XL Engine and it + Endo Steel makes her not cheap.
But a better scout is hard to find.
Also sports AMS & ECM.
EDIT: and 9.5T armour.

If I ever do pilot a Scout mech It's a LCT-3S Locust with the Medium laser swapped for Tag. I tend to be Stupid lucky with it's Streak 2's and have crippled many a mech with floaters that blow off limbs.

I am REALLY hoping the add in the Black Knight, I LOVE that mech.

@Raven: Just let us know if it's going to be danger close, Friendly Fire isn't.

I had a love affair with a Goliath for a while. It was the AC/20. There's just something awesome about coring a Grasshopper midair that makes one cackle like a maniac.

I like the Black Knight cause it's a Zombie. Standard engine, No ammo or explosive components like the Warhammer or Marauder. It's faster then the Awesome and has better brackets. I face a lot of Clan in my local group so the BL-12-KNT is almost the perfect mech. The difference in BV allows me to almost always have a better pilot. Nothing like using the TC to pick on Limbs or spots that already have been weakened by lance mates. The thing can take a bearing and just keep going.

Rumor mill is going around that battles will be 12 vs. 12, so keep the recruitment up!

Makes the prospect of focused fire rather daunting, doesn't it?
Could be we find ourselves employed just to fill out a lance roster.

would defently not be a good day for anyone who comes under fire from full group. so will defenetly have to play smarter and as a team.

Matt C. posted that they were shooting for 12 v. 12 matches, but if it caused too much stress on the server they'd cut it back to 8 v. 8. Personally hoping for the full company experience, though.

While it would be daunting to walk into focused fire from 12 'mechs, if they're clustered like that I'll spot 'em and we can arty/IDF 'em into submission. And if they scatter to avoid the bombardment, we can pick 'em off one-by-one.

As things stand, we're one shy of having a full company, although with timezone and play time differentials we probably won't be able to all be on at once. I'd like to see a few more names on the roster, myself; I've been pitching the game to friends but they're not so much into the online gaming scene. But we'll see.

EDIT: Matt C., not Paul. Get your devs right, Ian...

The way thing's are looking we'll be lucky to have a full lance on at any given time, but we still have 5-6 months to add to our numbers.

Aw jeez Night, no need for the theatrics. We've still got some months before the release.
Well guys, if it matters, just give a buzz if, down the track, you're in need of numbers. I'll flesh your forces out!
It's all in the spirit of Jolly Cooperation!

And Steiner thinks Atlas = win is because Atlas is the only assault ;mech so far. :)
