thank you, you have the rights to make your own night walkers for free any i dont care about copy right that much any way go take it do what you will it but did just put an updated version of now it may be better hell if i know but still............ gauss rifles dont sound like a bad idea but when they take critical hits they go bang big time if you know what i mean

A Gauss Rifle explodes for less damage than a ton of any ammo (except Gauss and Plasma, which don't). Putting it on the arm means your side torso armor might be hurting but the 'mech will survive.

I just like tinkering around with 'mech designs. I'm not trying to take anything away from you, really; I just want the 'mech to be able to fulfill it's designed role.

It's on our website, or in this post. A modified (actually, rebuilt from a nearly-destroyed carcass) Commando called 'Danny's Boy'.

It looks pretty good, actually. It's got some ranged firepower but it's basically a brawler. Not really my cup of tea - I prefer lighter, more mobile 'mechs - but it's a solid design.

Night?
You might do better not just copying the SSW file. That's VERY decompressed there, and has little to say what some of the numbers are.
Instead, try exporting it as a Megamek file. Then set all MTFs to open with Notepad.
You'll find a MUCH smaller way to post it, trust me, it's worth a look.
Now, as for the config. I know what you're trying to do, and trust me. The way I've done it WORKS. You don't like hands? That's fine. Then instead of using UAC5s, use PPCs. Same damage and range, no minimum range, less space taken up, less weight, so you can add more heatsinks and not worry much at all.
Why do I suggest this? Because the hands were there to be a backup to your inevitable death up close. Without hands I have tested your Night Walker as you detail it, and it lasts 20 seconds less than with hands and 4MG and 3ML. The thing is, you're too ammo reliant on the wrong weapons.
UAC5s are tricky. Maybe, seeing as you're running cold, you could put the ammo for them in the legs? They're HEAVILY armoured and aren't often hit except by Battle Armour, Protomechs, and Kicks. We all know how likely we are going to see PROTOMECHS, too. Hahaha
The head I stand by. I have had a mech hanging together by a thin stand of plastic that has survived thanks to ammo in the head still being there to fuel the last weapon I had running. Several times.
And if you're worried THAT much? Use that ammo bin up 1st. It'll last 50 seconds with both UAC5s firing double-tap.
TL;DR: Swap 1T MG ammo for 2MG. Swap 1T SRM4 ammo with Medium Laser. KEEP THE HANDS (you can just not use them if you want, and it's great for picking up severed limbs and beating the enemy with them... plus climbing can only be done with hands). Swap the UAC5 ammo to wherever you want and thing they'll be safe. You have the space in the Left torso to put the CASE, 4 MG, AND ALL AMMO YOU USE in it.
So why not that?

Also, an example of a 3025 config I use. Just to stoke the fires, here...
MAD-3RH "Big Al" Marauder
Mass:75. Heat Sinks:17 Single
MP: 3/5/0
Armor - Standard
LA:24 - RA:24 - LT:24/8 - RT:24/8 - CT:35/11 - HD:9 - LL:32 -RL:32
Weapons
2 ISAC5. Ammo:80 - 2 ISMediumLaser - 1 ISLargeLaser - 2 ISSRM2. Ammo:50
Left Arm:
Shoulder, Upper Arm Actuator, Lower Arm Actuator, ISAC5, ISMediumLaser, 2xISAC5 Ammo
Right Arm:
Shoulder, Upper Arm Actuator, Lower Arm Actuator, ISAC5, ISMediumLaser, 2xISAC5 Ammo
Left Torso:
2x Heat Sink, SRM2
Right Torso:
2X Heat Sink, SRM2
Center Torso:
LargeLaser
Head:
SRM2 Ammo
Left Leg:
2x Heat Sink
Right Leg:
2x Heat Sink

It's not the most efficient, but it certainly IS 3025. And it's served me well. Later on I switch to AP AC rounds and Tandem-charge SRMS. Love me some TACs

Seems we have some technicians rattling around in here, eh? And Merovigian, are you running a simulator of some kind to generate the life expectancy? My only experience is tabletop and we managed some fairly odd rebuilds (that may not even be practical but we were having fun) Also, I'll rattle the old boxes and dig up Stormcrane. He was a custom marauder I ran way back.

I am. Megamek. I play against friends and we test out designs on each other.
The Night Walker lasts only a SHORT time without multiple redundant short-range weapons as the enemy didn't like getting peppered with twin UACs. With the many MGuns and 3 Medium Lasers, you'll do more damage in that knife-fight range, plus having all of that in the side torsos meant he could punch twice, dealing more damage.
In the 7 sims I ran with each variant, it turned out that it NEEDS the extra brawling ability, unfortunately.

Nope. I used the Marauder against your Night Walker and raped it to death with spiky strap-ons because it was seriously under-armed for its weight.
The Dire Wolf incedent was when I used a Trei of Society 'mechs and Super-heavy Protos... because the thing was 100T and had 2 HAG 40s.

Okay, that's a good energy-reliant variant.
But do you really need 45 rounds of firing the SRM6? Also the PPCs negate the need for hands damage-wise. They deal more damage than you can in close combat.
Otherwise, solid.

Anyone wanna be the ying to my yang? I will most likely be using the Catapult CPLT-C1, and be jumping around on the outskirts of the battlefield. Somebody stealthin' the Raven with a TAG would be nice, so I can arc missiles around walls and buildings and such. Also, if I have the opportunity to DFA some jackass and you give me the go-ahead, there's some salvage in it for you ;). Being fire-support is great but I have to get a little dirty time-to-time, y'know?

Besides Catapult, I will likely be running Jenner every so often. I like jumpjets, as you can probably tell.

Very nice. Can't seem to find my old papers though... I'm loathe to think they got thrown out in the last move. Is it possible to get a link for the megamek program?
