I like that, so then I can gift them to friends since I already have them.

And I think thats why they are running this promo, to increase the Ubie Top Tier sales as that is likely to be the one most people buy to get 3 free mechs.

Now you have people who are upset because they shelled out an extra $80 dollars (or upgraded their packages for a high price) in order to qualify for the Loyalty mechs. And then PGI goes and hands all 3 Loyalty mechs out to anyone who bought the $40 Urbanmech package.
This is very different from Star Citizen, where all players know before their purchase that anything they buy will also be available to everyone else. Indeed, some things are more expensive to buy in Star Citizen right now than when they were sold the first time (such as the Origin 350R racing ship). PGI has gone the other way, and effectively made people pay a high price first, and then made them available for people who spent less money.
A lot of people are saying "don't look a gift horse in the mouth", but these aren't gifts. They are customer appreciation rewards. Those are two very different things.
TL;DR - This whole problem would have been avoided if PGI abandoned the silly "limited edition" approach and simply followed Star Citizen's example. But it's probably too late now. They can't change the 15th anniversary reward, because they've already sold mechs based on those rewards. Best thing PGI can do at this point is to let people with duplicates receive Premium time / MC instead of the second mech.
As for the people who spent a lot of money on what they thought was a limited time offer?
"Oops."

This is a bit fanboyish, to be honest. RSI has limited starships, which sometimes come back up for sale later and affect their prices at the grey market. Been there, done that - LTI prices, super hornet prices, aurora anniversary prices, vanduul scythe for 1800$.
Please, don't bring up RSI as an example - it's clearly not the best one.

If you have 0-2 of these mech already----you receive one of each as the program currently describes (should be sellable, but not giftable to those who have not earned the "loyalty" mechs)
If you have all 3 mechs---you get the MAD DOG INVASION MECH VARIANT
If you have loyally invested OVER $400 into this game and have all 4 of these Mechs----you get 4 mech bays, MC equivalent to what the Hero MDD would cost, and maybe more?
This plan should A, require minimal extra effort from PGI and B is along the same lines as what they have already done here, minus being extra generous to their big investors!
I do not like people crying/complaining about a F2P game giving the community free content and do GREATLY appreciate this effort as almost nobody would have noticed if PGI let their anniversary pass uneventfully. PGI is trying to do a good thing here, so be careful in our criticism of it or they may learn not to give us anything!
The issue here is trust. I do agree with those who cried fowl when PGI broke our trust by recycling these "exclusive" loyalty rewards which would "only be available through our MechWarrior Credits/Pre-Sale/Top Tier Reward program" to anyone willing to throw $40 at the game now.
Now that they have offered this, I doubt they will rescind it. The only other thing they can do now is reward their MOST LOYAL investors more appropriately considering they are the ones who got the largest slap in the face.

Now people are just being greedy and elitist in this thread, for real. You are not being robbed or false-promised in any way.
PGI could've done better but they could've given nothing as well. Guess which option is better between giving something and nothing.

it cheapens the people who bought your stuff sight unseen (Phoenix and Masakari Packs), and it cheapens people who bought your $80 Resistance packs and $120 Gargoyle packs.
I'm glad I'm not one of the players who bought the Resistance and Gargoyle packs for the King Crab, cause they've just been taken for a ride. $40 for all three "Loyalty" mechs, lol.....
I guess the Urbanmech preorder must be tanking spectacularly to pull a stunt like this.

This.. Add in the Maddog-Prime(i) At least us clanners would get a mech that would fit in our drop decks. (it would be a duplicate for me but thats fine).
Its locked to a unsellable mech bay
It has 30% bonus
It fits all the previous requirements!!

Everyone seems to have interpreted those words to mean permanently exclusive. They even told us ahead of time those variants would be for sale in the game for C-Bills. Never did I read anywhere that said they were never going to be offered again, and they ARE still an exclusive mech, they are no different than any other champion mech that can be bought, save the Norn skins.
Now, to quote more of the terms of the 1 year anniversary:
Quote
This custom AS7-S variant will only be available through our Pre-Sale Reward program and will be injected into eligible accounts on October 21st.
This custom King Crab variant will only be available through our Top Tier Reward program and will be injected into eligible accounts on December 16th.
Not complaining, as I will use the doubles if I cannot sell them or whatever, I'm not concerned with it, or I would not have jumped on the bandwagon....
Trust has been an issue for the consumers of PGI's product, the customers have been led on, lied to, misled and essentially they feel as though they were treated as nothing more than a vacation fund for the upper echelon at PGI. This follows suit with the track record of the company and if anyone here has an issue with that, they knew this track record beforehand. If they didn't know the track record, spend an hour searching through the forums and you will learn soon enough.
Your mileage may vary, but I knew going into all of my purchases that companies are out to make money and will do whatever it takes to do so.... I got what I paid for and I agreed to it before I clicked confirm on the purchase pages.

The grey market is apples and oranges, really. There is no grey market for MWO because the game has been out for over 2 years. It makes no sense to talk about that problematic side of RSI's model, since it only applies to the very early stages of a very multi-dimensional game.
Ultimately, the point is that whether you buy a Vanduul Scythe or a Javelin class Destroyer, you have the certainty that people will be able to get those items in-game for a total cost of 0 dollars, if they're willing to put in the time. There's no parallell in MWO, and thus you end up with a lot of sticky situations. I'm talking about that general principle on its own merits. I'm not saying MWO should be Star Citizen.
EDIT: Props for liking your own post. Stand up for what you believe in

But on the other hand I really must echo a similar sentiment; this does cheapen the loyalty mechs quite a bit. Their usage of 'top-tier pack' versus actual money spent has also garnered quite some ire from the player base and not without good reason in my eyes.
As a predominately Clan player, thanks to CW, the current loyalty mechs I have do not see enough play time and collect dust more often than not in my hangar. With duplicates it will be even worse. Which is a bit of a shame as these are enjoyable mechs to play with. I would like to see PGI offer some kind of loyalty reward for Clan players.

I thought about it all day, and now my comment will go more or less unread on page 10 here, but nontheless, herea re my feelings about it:
- It is nice that players get a second chance for those mechs. I am no elitist that need to own sth. others can´t get if they missed out once.
THAT SAID, I think it comes way to soon. Would it be 1 Year or more, it would really be more like a "you missed out - here try again" chance. Now it seems those mechs are slapped on those pakages to sell them better. - I have bought the Maskari Collection and the Clan Wave 2 Collection before the last reward, so I already have all of those bonus mechs. And I bought the Urban Mech Collectors before the announcement, so I get anonter copy of those mechs.
- Spening money and recieving an unannounced reward felt really nice. Now getting the exactly same again reward again, and the Mechs not beeing sellable, fells shallow. It feels like there is no thought or work been put into this "reward"
I wish you would change the mechs or sth - or give us the MC instead of the doubles, which are useless for 90% of the people. And you are screwing over the people who spend the most money on you game. As said. ODD

Yes I have all three already, SO?
EDIT: Green got the correct info (a few posts down). Happy to correct my mistaken understanding.
Either way, its still a freebie if you bought a pack or so (40$+ and you get 3 additional mechs)!
Anyway, its free stuff and a thank you for spending money on the game. I dont see the problem...

I think the chief complaint is that many either want to be able to sell the mechs, or gift them. I already have all three and would love to have some kind of option not to have duplicates. I don't want to miss out on them completely, but I am not crazy about having so many unused mechs.

Also, I think I read the CBill versions (available now or so) would be marks "L" models and NOT have the cool design camo. Ialso think I read that "this" freebie would be the L models. IF that is correct, all those that griped about not being able to change the Camo, would now be able to do so (as soon as camos for Crabbies are made ready that is)
Anyway, its free stuff and a thank you for spending money on the game. I dont see the problem...
Where has this been said? My take is that these are the exact same mechs. If they can camo change however, I am much more open to the idea of getting them as a duplicate.
