As the DCMS is not part of the nSL I would politely request all HK members to step back from this thread. We can talk all we want on other threads but it would be rude to derail this one any longer.

Let them argue among themselves lads, we've got work to do.

And to the nSL and MS- good luck to you both, there are many battlefields in MWO and I have no doubt we will see you both with us and against us. Forward the Dragon!

Sorry to see you go, but I know this was a vote your whole High Command made. Hopefully we can see you aligned with us in the future.

While there has been some good back and forth role playing here, please keep it civil folks so that this thread stays visible.

Was willing to listen to the MS folks. That said, looks like they went back to the clans so... <<shrugs>>

MercStar made it pretty clear a while ago that they were Ghost Bears first and always and would end up back there eventually. That's why it never really made much sense to me that they were so interested in becoming part of the Star League. From where I sit, by their behavior, it looks like all MS really wants is to put their tag on as many rocks as they can manage no matter who they're fighting and to upset the status quo wherever they can find it, turning ally against ally and destroying any alliances and NAPs that they can.

I would not be too quick to judge them.

I've made some complaints about MS but it's worth saying -

My issue is with the design PGI has created. MS is following the money. PGI has created a system that makes mercs a disruption to faction tactics and strategies, not a benefit or a commodity. That's not the fault of groups like MS but an issue with game design.

If there was a financial incentive for them to coordinate with a factions overall strategy they would love to I'm sure. Currently there is not only no benefit but in some ways a benefit to do the opposite.

Not necessarily judgement, see below:

You're right, and stirring up the entire Inner Sphere into a giant orgy of violence plays to MercStar's advantage in that regard. They gain nothing by supporting the nSL because we're looking to stop inter-House violence and focus on fighting the Clans. That removes 5 (Marik/Davion, Marik/Steiner, Marik/Kurita, Davion/Kurita, Kurita/Steiner) active combat fronts that they can dance in and out of at leisure. Yeah, it's a failure of PGI's system that MercStar is exploiting. I can understand why. Just think it sucks they, and some others, are so determined to shoot down the nSL, which pretty much represents the biggest moment of unity we've seen among the player base since Sarah's Jenner.

I also wouldn't put too much faith in MercStar remaining as large as it is. It is having its own internal debates as it is a collection of several big names and large cliques. A consequence of their internal attempts to appease their own masses is that they are constantly on 7-day contracts back and forth between IS and Inner Sphere and there is little likelihood of them ever taking a longer contract and reaping its monetary benefits. No matter what they do, some of their own won't be perfectly happy. Swords of Kentares may particularly be piqued about what's been going on in their home world and may in fact go back to their Davion roots. I'd like to see that happen, and the MS weakened in other ways too when their ensemble realizes it can be much more fun to hunker down and support one faction.

There is no monetary benefits long term with any faction... longer contracts only provide better LP rewards, not an increase on CB, which are plentiful in any faction provided the action is continuous. Most merc's used 7 day contracts (some use 14 day ones) and move around, it's the nature to play everything we have in our drop bays. What's the point of spending upwards of $400 on clan mechs if you can't use them at all, or likewise your IS mechs, because you get stuck into one faction... I barely pug play because unless I play non-serious, I don't enjoy it, or feel rewarded by it.

i find it interesting that you seem to understand my own units internal politics better then i do.

anyways, we go where the salmon leads us. such is the life of the bear.

though i cant speak for the other units of MS, i can say SiG is happy as long as we get delicious salmon. where we get it from is secondary at best :D

I can. The lego Pirate was clearly inferior to the double decker couch.

As an outside view, not talking for the unit I am apart of or any house faction:

This will never work. Reason for this failure of the reforming the star league or what ever you want to call this is the clear and present threat each house faction not on the clan borders and even some of them pose as a threat to each other. Heck over the past week of "supposed peace" Davions have lost planets to the Liao, Marik, and Kurita. The planets lost started at or better yet continued at the start of it. So until each house faction can either control itself or those in it this will remain a flawed idea.

My suggestion is why not each faction create its own pacts with it's bordering neighbors, and after some neighboring peace has been worked out between neighbors we can finally work to defending against the clans and eventually pushing into them.

Like I said earlier my two cents not for faction house or unit.

What you are saying is how the situation was before we started work on getting everyone together in the nSL. Which clearly wasn't working, because Kurita and Rasalhague especially were getting stomped. That was the whole impetus behind the nSL in the first place!

Much like in pug matches, nobody wants to be the first guy in. Everyone wants to hang back and finish off badly damaged enemies. The reality is though that the winning team is the one that coordinates its push and fights on its own terms.

That is what the nSL is. Those among the houses with the will and the drive to make the Clans a priority do so. Those who don't are going to do whatever they were doing before. Even a majority of units is sufficient, they agree to focus first and foremost on the Clans, sending merc units there, etc. They are the ones who are going to help shape the direction that cw takes in the long run. Population shifts will end up with most is houses ending where they started relative to reach other. Marik and the great wall are the only likely exception to that.

The only thing that will really matter in the long run is fighting the Clans. That is going to be what significantly changed the map and was memorable. Everything else is just pugging.
