Concept is really fun, gives a more rpg-feeling to the game, but being 12 random people vs 10 premade multiple games in a row makes for a bad experience.
Some form of regulation in the matchmaking algorithm would be nice imo, so that things like this doesn't occur too often. Unless, of course, this mode was made exclusive with large premades in mind.

Pug Dropping against any premade is not going to be fun. There are plenty of groups out there.

Pugs vs Premade is more often than not a terrible experience. And it's exponentially worse in Community Warfare...and exponentially worse if the premade is on defense. As Scendore said, there are lots of groups out there recruiting. It's best you join with a group or at least get on Comms with them so you can at least be coordinated.

Community Warfare (not clan wars) has no match maker to speak of. It grabs the first 12 bodies it can to form a team. This makes it real easy for large groups to get drops rather quickly. Depending on your faction, you may or may not have a decent number of units dropping on your side. Meanwhile, the enemy side may have several dropping for them. This is probably why you were constantly up against large groups. In that situation, you're better off switching to a different planet. Unfortunately, depending on your faction, other planets may not have anyone attacking or defending, so queue times will be horrible.

CW is supposed to be hardcore mode, and large groups definately have the advantage.

The question is still how the mm algorithm can match a premade group of 10 people + 2 randoms and let them face 12 randoms. Not even a small premade group in the opposing team. :/

*edit* typed before I read LordSkippy's entry

CW / Faction play is mainly for hardcore players, not casuals. It's intended to be harder than your average public matches.

That is, it's for units and very experienced solo players.

There's no matchmaker, it just takes the largest groups in the queue that fit together. With the new telemetry you can see what groups are waiting in the queue, and it's always a bunch of single players.

There is no matchmaker per se in CW- you drop on a planet, you'll end up against whatever's in first on the enemy queue.

Yes, this means a mob of single players can end up vs. a large unit. There's no "balance" here, if you're up against a good group, nature will take it's course and you lose. You're in a queue where groups are expected, not split off into their own queue.

Learn to be friendly- when you're solo, and there's a group- ask for their TeamSpeak, get into faction groups, fight together. 12-man CW fights are not at all designed for Random Rambos.

cw can be lige pug life... i played 3 matches one day, two mostly pugs defending against 12mans, where we lost to light rushes. even if you kill the first wave you have basically lost if the gens are gone.

The third round was a counter attack, with a 10 man against pugs and a 4man and i was like "yay" and what happened? those guys played like drunk and didn't hit a thing... these days...

For the record, CW=Community Warfare, not Clan Wars.

It basically is Clan wars, cuz after awhile, its only going to be the Premade "clans" playing it. I guess IS guys will spam their TDRs and the clans their TBRs and SCRs, pugs will leave and it will die....

About a month ago I stuck my toes in the CW waters to see what it was like.

Signed up with House Marik for 14 days, I think it was. Played about 4 matches per evening.

First 2 battles, we happened to have at least one 3-man named unit on our side, and they typed in chat where to meet up, whether to bring lights or big guys next drop, etc. So a decent bit of coordination that helped the new CWers. (Won one, lost one but it was close... the win was against a fairly large named group)

After that, results varied. Sometimes I was on a good team, sometimes the larger groups called strategy sometimes they just did their own thing. As the 2nd week neared an end, I felt I had learned enough that if we were a total solo-PUG group I would call some basic moves and locations (not as 'commander' but just as, hey guys lets meet in D4 then push Beta sorta thing).

People seemed to listen better in CW than in normal queue, especially if they got stomped the first wave. So you may need to learn some basic strats and take an active role if no one on your team is. It won't make a solo group winners, but it does improve the feel of the match I found.

There is no way to balance teamwork, you must simply step up your game by getting a group and using teamwork yourself.

Don't be shy, there are plenty of groups out there and most are very friendly.

You could pretty much just put a gun on the side and be good to go.

CW is for 12 man groups, anyone else must suffer.

Also, there is no MM, just wait time until there's 12 people on each side.
