I see people running shield side mechs after dropping all the armor on one side. It's pretty obvious when someone doesn't want to you to shoot one of their sides. I guess it works against people that just randomly fire without target locking.

And the Timberwolf runs that build much better without the gimmicks, more armor, and less heat. But the Timberwolf does everything better.

It performs very near to the Timber Wolf in all respects. Slightly less damage, less durability, better cooling. Just as you might expect a 10 ton lighter mech to. However, it doesn't need endo + ferro to achieve this. It has enough weight to play with that gaining an extra three tons is less important than having those high mounted hard points.

Also, asymmetrical mechs are usually considered better.
