The U.S was the home of ingenuity, freedom, thought, speech, innovation, and the belief that all humans are equal. To some extent it still is.
Then, something changed. I don't remember when, but we became ashamed of ourselves and of individuality. Now we're just becoming more passive. And I hate to say it, but it's going to take something horrible to get us to wake up to the threats growing around the world.
Just my two cents.

We can "intercept" ICBMs? WTF are you talking about you idiot?
We do not have the tech to "intercept ICBMs". You are going to get us ALL KILLED!
You said that with such confidence.
This is a flying laser with the power to swiss cheese an ICBM.
Sure, it's decommissioned. But any nuclear threat and it can get back in the air at any time.

China and India are thousands of years old. "In current form" -- apparently the Civil War and New Deal don't count. Whatever. America is bigger. It Takes what it Wants. America is a Big Young Buff Male and Other nations are Smaller Females and America takes these Older Weaker Females when it wants, planting military bases and interests in them.
China bashes any religion that has a chance of making people dislike the government. India is ready to nuke Pakistan over some stupid cultural thing. Yeah, really good nations to be a world power there buddy.
America took the reigns and
made itself the leader of the world. The rest of the world didn't protest. Now we have people like this who are upset that the new kid on the block actually dared to oppose their "sacred culture" or "older nations who are much wiser."
Your cultural homes (China, India, Greece, Italy, etc.) still exist. Go there if you want. Oh wait, Greece sank itself in debt, China is controlled by communists, India is still a 2nd World country (it's rising, but still) that wants to start a nuclear war, etc.
A tip to politicians: You wanna be a world power? Work for it. Lead in
real diplomacy. Take the reigns and fight wars that need to be fought. Aid nations in need. Respect religion. Respect human rights. Respect equality. Don't EVER disregard science. That's a good way to fail. Develop a powerful military force should you need it. This is a fluctuating time in the world. Anyone at any time can change the course of history. And let me tell you what, when that train comes barreling by, I'm not gonna lie down and get run over or left behind. I'm gonna jump on and--God willing-- take control.
