I am not sure how many have had a chance to use the in game VOIP, but everyone sounds like they are talking with a paper bag over their head while using speaker phone.

I have been using Comstar Teamspeak channel and Skype in the past, both which work great without changing any settings. You can barely make it out, but the other players are saying their playback through VOIP is bad too.

Is there anything in game we can do for this?

I had to turn the individual volume up on most of the people I talked to on TeamSpeak -- the default settings were pretty crappy. Did they add a VOIP settings page or are you stuck with them?

I found it to be better than I thought it would be. A bit crackly but usable, it is INSANELY distracting when trying to use skype or teamspeak as well (which you have to in a unit....or when wanting to talk socially).
The issue srae there is no way to tell how well YOU come across though...plus how do I know who on my team has it turned on? My first game only 3 out of 12 of us even spoke. It was in that game at least, utterly useless.
Going to try it out in CW to see if it's usable there.

they may have the quality down to try not to overload the network. Hopefully after some live testing they will figure out what it can handle and up the quality

It was fine on my side. Most people dont bother using it but once in a while you do get alot of target chatter: great fun!

I can't get mine to work, I can hear people fine but when i hold the press to talk button i'm not transmitting anything, despite going into the settings and making sure my mic was selected.

can not keep mine working either, tried binding to different buttons and selecting different audio ptions to no avail. it worked in 2 games out of 20. I do hear people but do not transmit. guess I'll mess with it.

So far it seems to work well for those who use it and have not had open mics or blathering little brats or idiots yet?

According to PGI they have it set really low because they were worried it would eat up people's bandwidth.

Having finer controls or just copying what NGNG/Comstar uses primarily should be "sufficient".

I certainly appreciate this awesome step forward for teamplay, but at the moment, it literally comes across like the airport loudspeakers from Leisuresuit Larry V. Just saying.

When the guy talking has a decent mic it sounded fine for me. Just like TS with friends. I've only done a few matches though.

Worrying about bandwidth in 2015... Game that's been out for years only just now adds built-in VOIP... Yep. We just went back in time to about 2002.

That's like worrying about memory constraints. Unless the engine or PGI's servers can't handle it, it's probably only going to be an issue for a very small group of people trying to run the game on dial-up toaster ovens. And there should be an option to disable it and not use that bandwidth in the first place. Also, just having a quality level in the options menu, for both up and down would be a good idea.

I asked on twitter earlier. They are making sure it doesn't impact gameplay. Hopefully they can jack the codec once they are comfortable.

@russ_bullock Any chance we can have a slider for VOIP quality if our PC can handle it?

@RJohnson69 no it's a server traffic issue but we may be able to turn it up some once we gather enough data

I'm sure it is a function of your connection speed. The lower your speed the worse it will sound because you dont want it to make things worse.

I am lucky to have an excelent connection and most people sound as good as on a phone.

I think its great... major increase in the fun level
