Thank you for missing the point.
1) They just added it, and many people don't even read the patch notes or may not even have a mic. You can't tell how many people are listening, just how many are speaking.
2) It's still got plenty of bugs based on many posts, so who knows how many people would like to use it but can't.
3) Many people probably turned it off by default not because "they are stupid PUG's" but because they assume the worst of people on the internet and aren't interested in listening to people spew insults randomly. Given that the OP's thread exists - a perfect example of the type of random crap-slinging most of us would prefer to avoid - I'd say those people's assumptions were right on the money.
This.
There are a few problems with VoIP at the moment but they are all to do with the implementation and nothing to do with the concept.
1. The quality is too low, and people often can't be understood
2. People might not even know about it yet
3. People might not have a mic yet
4. Bugs are preventing some people from using it
5. FPS hit might be too much for some users and they disable it (personally I have not had a FPS drop)
6. Entitled doomsayers turning it off before even trying it
I played a couple games last night and even though only about half of the games had VOIP users I found it incredibly helpful.
Focus fire targets, Enemy positions, Flank Warnings and basic strategies could finally be called out in real time. Only one unhelpful player sullied the experience with a childish retort after he refused our calls to cover our team with ECM on Caustic.
Give this a couple of weeks and we'll find more people using it
