I think it's hysterical that the Panther was released this week and would/should be in heavy use, but I've regularly seen the light mech solo queue at 5% and less because this challenge promotes the use of the more kill-heavy mediums, heavies and assaults.

i tried to make this a real challenge for me and leveled all 3 Panthers this weekend. Effective little buggers. I usually had no problem securing a kill in my winning games.

I've been using Panthers in probably 80% of my matches so far, mostly because the light queue is just quicker to get into a game. I like them well enough. And while I get my share of kills, I think I'm just having bad luck because the majority of them seem to come in losses. As it is, I'm only at about a 43% win rate (37 wins in 85 games), and 22 qualifying points in those 37 wins. Could be better, could be worse... but I guess I'm just way too cynical to be anything but annoyed. :)

After having not played the game for some 18months i decided to come back recently. After a week of playing i noticed the quality of games the last few days had deteriorated substantially with massive LRM spam and people screaming for kills or "why'd you take that kill, did you need that kill" etc. After a few questions and checking it out online, I only just now learned of this event. So i decided check out my performance and match history and quickly discovered how this event became so toxic.

6 Wins, 37 assists and some 3000 dmg done
0 points. Because i didnt register a kill. I run an Orion with Dual AC/5s and 3x SRM4s. I dont LRM spam, i dont snipe. I mid to close range brawl and play to win the objective.

More disconcerting than personal performance or rewards however is the overall impact these events and reward conditions have on the game as a whole. If i hadnt made the link between the drastic change in game quality, toxic player behaviour and this event, i simply would have written the game off again as a lost cause. This event makes for a really poor impression on new or returning players.
There's a need to get smarter about the reward conditions if you insist on running these events in the future. Light mech participation has dropped to single digits with the remaining few staying behind the front, trying to scrap and brawl. Heavy mech numbers rose to between 45-55% at any given time, and people are simply not moving until they can be sure of mopping up a kill or two.

Anyway, this is my first forum post in over 2 years and i just wanted to add my 2 cents.

I hear what you're saying. I have a few friends who are on-again off-again interested in MWO. This event is appealing for players who don't want to pay real money because you get free stuff but I would not ask them to join me in the grind this weekend because I was afraid it would be a bad experience for them.

For a veteran like myself, I had fun doing the challenge but I can see that it might be frustrating for a more casual player or a new player.

84 games, 220 assists, 39 kills, 33 wins, 28 games with a kill …

16 points.

And Elo is only crunching the 84:33 ratio?

And five minute waits?

There is no Match Maker; There is only Teh Release Valves …

I think I'll go drink the Wave III money … Posted Image

Agreed... pug game were HORRID!... of the 20-30 games I attempted to play, I got 3... a bloody total of 3 points, 3 wins, 3 decent rounds where I had to use a 300m brawler Timber Wolf to win the matches.

ELO matchmaker for high elo in any weight class... broken as **** for me... worst teams, worst games, worst experience in this game. Had to farm out the other 47 points from 2.5 days of CW dropping...

148 games it took me to do the 50 points. Not that bad I guess.... 1 in 3 games approx gives me a point.

Mathmatically speaking it took me 75 games for the raven 3L.

If each game is 10 minutes, it's 6 per hour, 7 and a half hours over the coarse of 5 days isn't that bad for the raven 3L.(C)
Some games are shorter and longer then 10 minutes but it's safe to say that's the average time for simplicity sake.

Dear developers of this great game! I played 8 hours, and I got only 10 points! Only 10! It is bullying when ping 170 does not work check hits. I don't like this game. I feel sorry for his time. I full-time upset and angry at your team.

Never again for me. Could only play off and on over weekend. By Sunday night I had 10 points in 33 games. Played a little bit last night because of the premium time ticking away. Got 2 more points in 6 games and said the hell with it. Total crap games, most were pure stomps. Teams gone full retart mode, everyone just running for that kill and to hell with everything else. Seems they keep forgetting that you actually have to WIN the f'n match too. Not at all worth the bs and frustration.

I had kind of wanted the Raven because I don't have any and my unit likes to run them. But forget it. I'll just buy the damn thing when I finish grinding the cbills for it. It's totally worth even paying real money for the champion if I don't have to endure this total crapfest weekend. Grinding my last Vindicator now, then maybe I'll just buy the Raven outright.

I fell for the same shizzle when they had the Victor challenge. Same pure hell game experience. I guess from now on I'll just sit out playing on these weekend challenges. No idea what PGI thinks they're accomplishing with these, but I'm sure the results are the polar opposite of what they hoped for.

All these challenges cant be easy, and they shouldn't be. If they made these types of things simple and easy for everyone, why bother having them, just give the @(#* away. That's why its called a "Challenge". Piss and moan, blame your lack of success on whoever and whatever you want.

Completely agree....I am an average player, so I set my aims right...get the 3 day bonus, brilliant...during the weekend, I played a bit and managed to get the Raven...During the week, I work, so I wont moan that I cant get all the goodies. Hell, I am happy I got a free mech and mechbay and premium time, got my Enforcers leveled up and had an entertaining weekend.

If you dont enjoy these challenges, why do them? Just play normally and if you get a bonus reward, be happy....already looking forward to the next challenge, if its again with with match score, brilliant, if its again like this one, get the premium time, enjoy playing and see where you get :)

Nope. Could care less if I "win" anything. But these "challenges" are turning the game play into shite while it's going on. That's the only point I was trying to make. Feel free to tell me to "learn to play" or other wise stroke your e-peen.

Some of us have wives, kids, jobs, and things going on in real life that take precedence. Now that I'm back to 12 hr days at work, and soon 6 day work weeks with that 12 hr shift, my play time is greatly curtailed again.

Man, you really an idiot or just pretending? You say that here win depends on you no more than playing roulette. To be able to play there shouldn't be.

I've managed to crawl to the Raven.

Statistic:

Games played: 106
Matches won:37
Total kills: 62
Matches with at least one kill: 41
Assists: 404
Longest streak with no points: 12
Points earned: 26

A lot of assists, many of them were with most damage done.

Took me about 80 games to get the Raven(Ended with 29). I don't mind the events effects on gameplay. Wish they had separate query for events like this maybe, but i still prefer a chance at in game items for my time. I thought the class events were a lot more noticeable for changing the gameplay. Yes people try to get kills more, and likely will do something out of character more often BUT as a smart man once said.. Sometimes you eat the bar, and well, sometimes that bar eats you...

Been a fairly active player since Jan 2013
I've endured a lot of these "things", this one, for whatever reason....may have actually diluted my desire to continue to play.
I got the whole works- and thankful, premium, camo, dashboard, mech....but..
this was thee most frustrating maddening one yet. and I didn't mind that last one that the ENTIRE community complained about...I guess PGI figures we forgot about one, that essentially was THIS one?

not sure how to type it out, so- c'ya

A separate challenge queue would indeed be interesting.
Gameplay would be normal in standard queue, though reduced population.
It could also use a separate challenge Elo, to account for the changed gameplay of the kill rush.

A separate queue could allow some more extreme challenge types.
Such as bounties (kill bounties player earn a point and become bountied with a target over head, remains until killed a few times).
Get headshots.
Kill with flamers.
Kill with LRM or NARC/TAG assist (LRM storm from hell mode).
Kill without taking any damage by end of match.

Potentially game wrecking challenges, but in their own queue and not excessive hours required to achieve and that's not a problem. Something different and only suffer it for a few hours.
