So How Much Use Is The New Voip Actually Getting?

Is it just that everyone else is thinking the same thing as me and why they're not using it? Or has it just flown too far under the radar of most players to even know it's there?

is mostly good enough in PUG games to make a difference.
The games i had where players only said litle made a huge difference. Noone is expecting of you to coordinate the whole team.
I would suggest to everyone thats holding off from VOIP to just try it, its not that hard and it can realy make a difference to the outcome of the game, just like pressing "R" does .

I wish to personally thank those who call out priority targets in pug matches.

It will grow as people figure it out.
"Target ( Bravo locked for LRM Strike" <--- just make sure when you call a lrm strike they are not baiting by fading in and out of cover to draw LRM fire.
"StraferX there is a direwolf approaching your back" <--- great info to let me know to move out and find cover.
"Team stay tight, regroup in F7" <-- great to say when your team is running wild and covering way to much territory to be effective.
I truly appreciate when someone takes initiative to call the match, they may call it wrong but some strategy if better than no strategy plus it just makes it fun.

Most people including myself that have had trouble getting it to work need to do two things. Make sure that at the bottom selector that your mic is selected. also the second slider bar "record level" slide it to the left, this lowers the amount of volume required for your voice to be picked up and generally solves the problem, I had to move mine down to 12 to pick up my mic.

Poor choice of words on my part, I wasn't thinking full-on drop commander.
I should've used it in one of the games I had earlier - HPG Manifold, Assault. Our team was on the western side of the Hyperpulse Generator itself and basically pinned in, anyone who broke cover would be forced back in by sheer weight of fire. I took my Shadow Hawk down through the basement area and popped out on the eastern side where I popped a UAV, hoping that my teammates could start bringing some missiles down onto them, breaking up their formation and opening a way in (which was also why I stuck around to put a bunch of AC rounds into a Jagermech's back - draw some attention to myself before fleeing back through the basement).
Didn't work as well as I'd like but that's where I should've used VoIP to let the others know what I was doing so that they'd be ready for when the UAV went up. Ah well; hindsight's 20/20 and all that.

I've never seen in-game chat get that bad, outside of one or two isolated incidents. Maybe it's just been the times of day I've been playing.

I do a touch of both. Tactical talk, and tom foolery. Even in the heat of battle I like to keep things light, Makes teh game more fun.

After my frame rate drop, I switched it off for a day, but put it back on with some tweaks to graphics, and I can't think of a single pug match it has helped make the win.
While it has a place in CW where people might actually want to unite, it might work well, but in pugland arena fights, its just used as a way to call people idiots (now that people are used to it being there) or ignored completely.
The developement time given to it has given the game nothing that wasn't already there, from the use of the house/clan third party TS hubs.
The only advantage there has been is it can now unite a few small groups, that were unwilling to use the third party TS servers, for political or personal reasons.
As a pugger I haven't been able to experience it in CW, but from arena fighting while grinding my new mechs, I have not seen anything to suggest it was worth the time and moneny to add it.

I have not heard anyone misuse VOIP yet. It's been purely used to call targets, organise pushes and for other useful information. The games where it has been used well have often resulted in fun games and convincing victories. It doesn't always work though, bads will be bads and completely ignore all tactical advice - typed, talked or otherwise - but VOIP has helped many players who do want a bit more strategy and team work.
I've been tempted to vent on VOIP myself after some epic team fails tonight, but I can't be bothered holding down PTT while I do so. I'll just keep my rage to myself.

That's complete nonsense. I've played enough to collect 12 points this weekend, and I have only seen people using it for relevant conversation: calling targets, asking people to push a grid location, etc.
I'm getting more than a little sick of people saying that it's just going to be full of trolls, when all evidence so far has proven that their stance of "I'm not going to use it because I dont' want to hear kids screaming racist insults" is wildly inaccurate.
