i have 2 of multiple Mechs of the same variant that I can't sell for their asset value.
The first of each was a "free Mech," the second of each was a "free armor, engine, and weapons." The are not "free Mechs" - having 2 of the same variant does not let you Master your other variant without purchasing a 3rd different variant; you don't get a MechBay (since it's occupied with a non-removable Mech), and that variant has no differentiation from your other free Mech.
It's not a second free "Mech," it is nothing other than a "free ability to keep a configuration saved, or sell it's equipment."
If we had the ability to save configurations, they'd be even that much more worthless... so, sell the engine, sell the armor, sell the weapons, and that's all you get for "free." An engine's worth of C-bills. Please don't say that's as valuable as a "free Mech." Sorry, but I didn't fail Accounting 101.

Wrong. CW exists. Having 2 CN9-AH's means you can drop with 2 of them in CW should you be focusing on a close range brawling deck. Same goes with the others. You also get lots of juicy CBills in CW when you have multiple CBill bonus mechs.

And now the result is that for the new pack you get no duplicates.
You cant sell the mechs, but could have sold all their weapons and engines for a few free million.
But no, unused mechs cluttering up garage was too much for some people so they complained lots and now zero instead.

I have 4 Atlas variants: D, D-DC, and 2 S variants.
I have 4 CN9's A, AL, 2AH.
and I have 4 crabs...
And you know what, I'm loving every second of it, you know why? Those extra loyalty mechs, I was able to take them and turn them into pure 3025 variants. Since most of them were non-upgraded variants, that ment I didn't have to pay a DHS to Single tax, I didn't have to do much to them really, to set them up as decent 3025 era, single heatsink mechs.
Just to see how well they would do vs fully customized, kitted out mechs. And you know what. I take out my 3025 mechs almost every day. My 3025 atlas kicks all kinds of mecha butt, my King Crab, while running a bit hot, still brings plenty of dakka, the only one I ignore really is the AH, but that's because I don't like purely ammo dependent builds. But it DID free up my CN9-A to be able to run 3025 tech...
Are you seeing why having these mechs isn't a bad thing? It means you have a free variant to toy around with build ideas, to try things you normally wouldn't. Add to that their usefullness in gaining additional c-bills in CW, the fact that excluding the AH, the entirety of the line is quite versatile in build possibility's, and the fact that they didn't cost you anything extra. You'd think people would be singing praises, instead of complaining like entitled brats that they can't sell something free.
You know what I think, i think if PGI allowed you to get rid of them, then you should beable to, BUT you'd loose the mech, the bay, and gain no c-bills for it. I think that's fair. If you don't want the gift, don't take the gift, but you don't get anything to replace said gift either.

One day I logged in and it was gone, and I had an extra mech bay.
Since IGP has gone, PGI seems to be... well... cooler.

So, because you can't sell it, it wasn't free? I don't see how accounting is necessary...you have a mech... you didn't pay for it...seems like "free" to me...

If you see Amsro coming your way with a crab just power down. Its much less painful then trying to run

Right? I wanted to build out a KGC with UAC5s, but didn't want to waste those AC20 quirks. Now I get the best of both worlds and can do both without having to spend anything.
I also was able to build out my other Atlas S as a LRM5 troll build.
I get how a Clan purist might just see IS mechs as wasted space, though.

It always amazes me when people make this same argument in every thread like this.
Some people like to control what mechs are in their own mechbay. It's not a big deal.

Well, if they ever got around to fixing/implementing the Mech Bay filters, you could just filter them out.
Pestering PGI about those filters might be a more ... effective use of ones time than complaining one got a free 'mech or two (or six, as in my case).

I would argue it's the opposite. It seems to take them a lot of effort to make these changes to the UI. I mean, we're not constantly getting minor improvements to the UI, we're waiting for a huge leap from UI2.0 to "UI2.5". And when I asked them to remove the IS loyalty mechs from my clan account, they did it within the week.
If I had asked them to give me a filter, I would still be waiting

Fair point
I do seem to recall how UI2.0 was promised to be "easier and faster to code for", "a massive bottleneck removed", and how we could "look forward to rapid improvements to the UI in just about every patch" (paraphrasing, of course).
And now UI2.5 is the same saviour as UI2.0 was supposed to be for UI1.5?
I do wonder about the capabilities of the coders at PGI from time to time...
