Not saying the new mech looks bad, just that when you compare it to the source material it looks like its standing up on tippy-toes rather than crouching down in the attack position.

Not a deal breaker, and I know you can't always stick totally to source, but it's rather a change given its traditionally iconic 'crouch-down-low' look.

All the mechs especially the mediums are too tall. This is also a bit big.

Problem with making it squat is that it would not be able to walk without the torso being levered high into the air on every stride. It would look ridiculous. The TRO artists had no such limitation and could draw all sorts of things that couldn't move in real life.

Totally agree.

I hope in the game its legs will appear different.
Being tall means being easy targeted and hit. And less cover.

Really hoping about this, which would be correct.

PGI has a hard time with scaling. Look at earlier mechs and map assets. Nothing is consistent. Centurion being a prime example, mech is HUGE for a medium.

Not for the bunny look, I'm worried about its too big legs making the jag too tall.

edit: in the concept art

Given they tend to like reusing assets, i'm guessing best bet would be to rebuild the top of either an adder, doomcrow or nova.

A nova platform would make the most sense, and it could possibly get away without suffering as much as said mech in the hitbox dept with the EJ's higher hardpoints

I am one of the people that bought the founders pack, and then just kinda lost interest.
Haven't activated my timebank, and spent only a moderate bit of my MC, also played like 70-80 matches in total i think.

The one thing i've been waiting for, was this mech, it has always been my favorite, and i was giddy when it was announced.
Yes, i expected it to look a little different, but this hardly resembles the original at all.

So, i WANT to like it, but i will wait untill i can buy it with MC, since i am sure as hell not confident enough to spend any more money on MWO then i have already have.

Only time will tell i guess.

My concern is that in order to make such a squatty frame to actually walk, the C-Born might have to hop like the T-Wolf, making it look dumb as well as adding some broken aspect to its hitbox shot registration. If it moves like a Nova, then that is more tolerable.

Honestly, looks about right.

The real issue may lie in the fact that FASA didn't take scaling for a FPS into consideration when it designed it's mechs for a board game.

I try not to compare the new concept art with the classic art to much, MWO has done a good job of reinventing the looks of the mechs, except for one I felt was good the way it was, Atlas... http://www.sarna.net...3025_Atlas1.jpg

you even have been very nice to the CB, because I guess he gets more TBR/MDD styled legs than actually NVA/SCR ones.

so can you put the chassis you have there on a TBR base pelase?
Because in the concept art the missile rack is at the same hight as the tbr's missile rack, so they gonna be the same height.
I mean yes by design, the upper tight looks like SCR/NVA ones, but hip hieght and mech height are TBR level.

Posted Image

the cam view is vey horizontal, and the CB is a tiny bit closer, so maybe the missile rack will be a bit lower, yet the hips seem to be on Tbr level height

I just wonder of the "shoulder" part is going to be arm or Sidetorso

Quite possibly, but I would have thought it could have been a bit shorter than the current version. Basically something halfway between the original floor-hugger and the soon-to-be-launched Champion V2.

The original "fighter sandwich on legs" concept is (like many things in pure/original Battletech) ridiculously unviable beyond hope.
IMHO PGI does an incredible job at fixing the art. Apart from some smaller mistakes like the Battlemaster, *cough*

Well, that's big walking war machines in a nutshell anyway lol. It doesn't mean they aren't fun though.

The problem with the original Artwort (Whcih does look really lowslung and intimidating) is that there is the problem with the torsotwist. The torso is basically fixed in position between the legs, as the hip joints are basically connected to the shoulder sockets and the "arms" are added to the outside of the hip joints. A mech like this would be basically unplayable in MWO due to the missing torso twist. Therefore it is logical, that the toryo would have to be pulled up and placed ontop of a normal swivel hip joint. It is quite easy to see with comparing the 2 Pictures below.
