This and the last Challenge were way to grindy. The time investment to reach top tier is way to high.

You, and many others in this thread are right on the spot.

For reference, the previous "Free Mech" challenges, and how many matches it took me to get the top reward. I'd estimate that I'm somewhere in the above average skilled crowd, not even close to a pro. I'd imagine some players had it easier, while most others had it worse than me.

Win a Phoenix Mech Challenge (Thunderbolt) and 5 Wins for a Free mech (Centurion) - 5 wins a piece - 10 matches, each

To the Victors - 58 matches for 20 wins / kill / assist / stay alive - (Would have been fewer if I wasn't leveling the crappy Mist Lynx)

Like a Champion / Like a champion Mk2 - 90-108 matches for 50 qualifying wins

Adder Up - 133 matches for 80 "points" - This event made me lose my mind

As someone who has to work weekends, I give this a +1! extending into weekdays would be fine. And if they ran an event over, say 2-4 weekends. They could save themselves some of the giveaways.

For example, from friday-monday each weekend for a month you gain points towards a free mech. You can only get ONE free mech. BUT each weekend some of the smaller prizes refresh, like 3 days of premium, consumables ect.

So people that grind the first weekend and get the mech still have a reason to play on the weekends (premium time consumables ect.), And people who have busy weekends get a whole month to slowly chip away at getting the free main prize.

I will +1 this suggestion, it's reasonable and it's a win-win.

Meets PGI's need for more player traffic and limiting the amount of freebies. A challenge done over a week I believe will keep people coming back to play over a period of time. Plus if stretched out to a two week period, then PGI has to only provide 2 freebies a month (1 every two weeks) instead of 4 freebies a month (1 per week).

Win for the playing community because a happy community is a growing community.

How about a 3 day challenge but which can be started on friday (-sat-sun-mon) till sunday (-mon-thu-wed).
So the timespan is same but people not able to play on weekend can also participate.

What does Tina, the new community manager, think about the challenges and their related furor? Anyone seen if the topic is on the table?

Furor?

I'd say those just dead set against, disliked, hated, never want again were in the vast minority.
Put to a poll, I'd bet 5% or less

Hard grind, hella challenge for a free mech thats ordinarily 7Million + or 2800 MC for nothing more than playing anyhow?
if you suck you probably didn't get it, if you were average, took a couple of days.
Dont confuse skill set frustration with a pain in the ass grind.

I'm not sure how a topic is "on the table" when it involves giving away things, like consumables, premium time, mechs etc.

just to throw my 5 cents in here as well.

i ended up with 50/80 just last night. took a grand total of around 12sh hours. thats a long time id say for people who do have jobs and families or other matters to attend to.

would we be able to have challenges similar to the Xmas and Halloween event where we need a score; gain some assists and kills + damg and get our free goodies or points. we will still play the game but our time commitment and kill hunting is less high.

I ended up playing just over 65 games to make this achievement. 10 min a round + w8 time is a whole lot of time... :(

80 out of 80.
Took all weekend.

Heavily used Enforcers that did very well in addition to Mastering them. Had some Panther games too, Elited them and they did OK.

That said, I do have 2 criticisms.

First of myself, took some time to get 80. Think I may pass on the next one. Not unappreciative, but there were too many reward levels to work through, just tires me out too much.

Second, there is no incentive to play Lights in these events. Actually, a lot of these solo events have a lack of reason to play Lights, everyone breaks out the Mediums and bigger. Somehow there needs to be a reward structure that encourages even the play of Light Mechs. Yes, there are some Light pilots that can get the conditions but not many. Lights tend to do more TAG & NARC than any other Mech so somehow adding that to conditions could help especially since all the LRM boats come out though that will bring more complaints of rain.

I'm sorry to have offended you. Not sure what set you off, maybe you're just having a bad day. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

There are a plethora of suggestions regarding challenges and giving them a less game-play-changing scoring system, so I don't think I really need to get too detailed in pointing out that it goes beyond the grind and skill gaps. Kill requirements alter game play. Win requirements alter game play.

I am of the opinion that even high requirements for match score would be a consistently appropriate solution.

Got the Adder and did not care about the other tiers, since I am an IS pilot and will be selling the Adder.

It's great PGI is offering a free Adder Prime. And lets face it, the mechs are the grand prize in these events and are set in the mid range of challenge requirements so that it can be more achieveable to a larger playerbase.

However, for all those that bought the packages and are financially supporting the game, having these mechs as the trophy are not as nice as for the free to play guys. PGI, can you select a 4th variant from the gift shop as the mech prize since it will be a nicer prize for more of the community. Even free to play guys will benefit from it.

I hope someone already covered this but since i work and have a life and the matches are 1 point a match and 50 are needed there was no way i even had a chance at getting that mech or any with such a short timeframe to get it. It is too one sided to win them prizes for a normal person like myelf and many others that were talking about it via game chat. This game has people from all walks of life and the time frame needs to be longer so everyone, not just people that have unlimited time to play.

I got 48 points, and that only because I had a nasty cold and way more play time than usual. Like my Seahawks back in 2005, though, I could have done several things differently and gotten the Adder points in spades. I spent most of Friday and Saturday eliting mechs for CW decks, and then I dropped my KTO-18 and trusted the euro TZ pugs to press the "R" button this early morning instead of dropping my CN9-AH and mauling faces up close and personal. The real irony came when I had 50 points in real time about 10:05 AM, 10:10 or so match time. The play literally improved right with the stroke of ten, because all of a sudden there were light mechs and ECM coverage again, and people were playing to win instead of to kill and die fast.

Lesson learned? Another weekend of free premium and a zillion drops, but to be truly enjoyable, the points for do-gooding trump these kill and assist requirements every time. The Chassis Challenges were actually my favorite, that was fun to grind out better tactics and put together a string of really great drops. Seeing myself briefly in the top ten for KTO was a pleasure even if it only held up for like 6 hours.

180 games to get 80, with seven hours to spare. Was forced to give up skilling up my Panthers and Enforcers and just alternate between my Huggin and Loyalty Crab, leaving a match as soon as I died.

Even for the experienced Player this Event tooks way to long (Screenshot below - I am experienced).

I needed around 17,5 Hours to get 80 Points - eating while playin and only run to toilet when it was Searchin a Game... :D

The Guy who said in this Thread a few Pages ago, this Event is Work not Fun, is right!

I would prefer, if PGI do Events on Special Days like Christmas only.

Pls stop the WE-Event-Spam!

I liked the event, but man. The sheer amount of matches required to get the mech was kind of intense. 50 minimum, assuming perfect play, and I got stuck with work for half of the time the event was up. I managed to get the 60 for the color, but just barely. I remember when these came but once in a blue moon, but were much easier. If I recall correctly, the Thunderbolt in my garage was earned by "win 5 matches" or something.

Oh, and it isn't like I had a high percentage of flops either. I wound up running my Locust 1E from almost brand spanking new to fully mastered with something like 2/3rds to 3/4ths (I think?) of my matches counting toward Adder points. Still, at at least 5 minutes a match with some lasting almost 15, and not counting the wait to get into one, I'm pretty sure I spent something like 12 hours on the game actually playing. That means I'd probably have needed another 4-ish hours to get the camo, which I did very much want. That kind of time devotion is, to be quite frank, not small, and given my schedule, not really plausible either.

I actually think I'd like to see more of those point-based events where you get points for performance in a match, which then get totaled and that is used to give rewards at various thresholds. Sort of like, idk, achieve 10k total match score, get some shiny thing, with smaller breadcrumbs at every 1000 accumulated match score. That might be a little high, but the general gist of the concept is there and it's really just an example.

Yes, you can get points just for showing up that way, but it takes a lot more just showing up in comparison to actually playing to get good things, and the old-style "just win some matches" events were even easier to game, since victory is at best only partially dependent on you and spamming enough matches will give you wins even if you don't participate.

Well, i guess PGI can't do it right for everyone, but like said before they need to figure it out with a bit more wit. The 24H challenge with the win requirement was more kinda frustating because depending on the team you end up in may be critical, the main problem for most players. The Adder challenge was way too much time consuming and in my opinion even much harder than the raven one. I started Friday right at the start of it, had some things to do on saturday night and sunday, so i had to try for the remaining 16 points on moday. Time was running out at about 47 points i guess. Very close, what it is bit sad with that ammount of time invested. I can't imagine the guys getting the full 80 points in that kind of timespan doin anything else that weekend. About barely average players like me will have to do it like that, if requirements stick to this setup: Get into the match, get kill and assist, disco, change mechs, enter next game. Or if this is considered weak social behavior for yourself at least, die, check out, change mech, enter next match. I think i don't want that. That combined with lots of crashes to desktop it really was a fight on all frontiers and pain in general, so to speak. BTW, the best run i had was at about the end of the challenge in a RVN 3L, i'll stick to it or any other light mech from the beginning next time, not at least because of shorter MM-time.
At least, good CB earned, some free stuff, RVN almost mastered, and almost a whole weekend sacrificed.
WHAT? AM I NUTS ?

If the purpose is to showcase MWO and draw in new players, wouldn't it make sense to lower the bar a bit? A relatively new player that wins a Raven for example might be encouraged to continue play and eventually pay some real money.

The skilled veterans most likely already have the Raven or it's pocketchage to them so they can buy it anytime they want.

The time investment can be cut down a fair amount with skill. So indirectly you are rewarding the already rich and punishing the poor (poor in CB, poor in skill).

Again that doesn't seem to be good business but it would depend on what the purpose of the event is.

Even through the challenge was difficult, I must say THANK YOU for providing an event with free stuff. There are plenty of other games out there without free stuff given out on a regular basis.

The premium time alone is worth it.

(though I still stick with the fact that either the person that dealt the most damage or the person that got the last hit on someone that overheats themselves should get credit for the kill.... Too many people purposely overheating themselves to troll someone out of their kill this weekend).

Edited to correct a spelling mistake.
