thumbs up for the mention of rifts too ^_^ but most are power armors although when some are piloted by 20ft gargoyles it could get interesting.

more realisitc mech universes: gear krieg, Heavy gear, armored trooper votoms, starship troopers (more power armor but hey)

Why are

"Super Dimensional Gear Yggdrasil IV" (Xenogears)Posted Image

and the "SDF-1" (Robotech, which I do not consider to be part of MW)

not mentioned? Though if given the choice I would vote for SDF-1

According to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecha, they are mechs

Quote

Mecha (alternatively: mech, mechs) is a science fiction genre, that centres around robots or machines.

its kinda sad that I know exactly what eveyone is talking about in this thread. Its almost sad how many mech games I've played. As far as my favorite games go, its mechwarrior all the way, but when it comes to the lethality of the robots involved. I'd have to go with the sheer speed and diversity of Armored Cores. Although I think a good Orbital Frame could give them a run for their money.

I am with Stray Ion, but it would not be the SDF-1 but the Macross Quarter.

I can't help but think with the Japanese 'Mech games how silly they are. I mean, the pilots have to be robots. The G-forces involved in those games would make a human being the new paint job in the cockpit.

People after my own heart. Rifts easily has over 200 different mechs and powered armor/exoskeletons and that doesn't include the Robotech series RPG which is published by the same company. In their second world book, they have a drawing of a city on the continent of Atlantis that is controled by an evil accountant version of Chuthulu and in the cityscape you will notice that they have the SDF-1 drawn in there as homage to their Robotech line.

Heavy Gear would get my vote 'cause I like the concept of the small, agile mecha that is capable of some manner of clandestine operation.

That being said, while I find the Heavy Gear setting has its charms, the BattleTech setting just captures my interest more, and since I love 'Mechs ALMOST as much as Gears it's kind of not a contest as to which gets my vote.

That and there's no Heavy Gear option, so superior setting wins!

I don't take back any of what I said here, not really, but...CthulhuTech. I friggin' love CthulhuTech, and for some reason it had just slipped my mind (never got much of a chance to play is probably why).

To the point, the mecha are awesome, and have a nice variety in size, role, and function. The NEG mecha would have to be my favorites, though, especially the ones that are designed for amphibious use. Tough ********, and they can operate underwater, on land, and in the air without any namby-pamby transformations or even the need to swap out components. Slow, sure, but rugged and versatile. Cool lookin', too.

Will pick Mechs that have to be piloted by skilled warriors over the ones controlled by teenagers with severe hormonal imbalance any day.
