Mechs like summoners and gargoyles are meant to spearhead the attack, maneuver and apply constant damage to the enemy.
Spearhead attacks? Gargles, sure, but summoners? Maneuver and apply constant damage, yes, but spearhead an attack? Not quite. You can kinda build a summoner for that, but that is not its traditional role.

Also, summoner works best in a flanking striker role. Too many times I've been amped up on bravado spearheading an assault in it only to get obliterated after 7 seconds.

The Warhawk is my most played clan mech, and the Banshee is my most played mech.. the Warhawk doesnt even come close to comparing to the Banshee, (or Battlemasters or stalkers tbh)
However the Warhawk is still decent, id say it comes in 5th best at the moment, id put them in this order personally (taking their tonnage into account):
1) Stormcrow
2) Timberwolf
3) Dire Wolf
4) Hellbringer
5) Warhawk
6) Mad Dog
7) Kit Fox
8) Summoner
9) Nova
10) Adder
11) Ice Ferret
12) Mist Lynx
13) Gargoyle
Note that based on what we know now, I think Wave III will bump the Warhawk down 3 spots at least, with only the Gladiator being below it. And even that will be close i think.

The Summoner and Adder both definitely need help, but I believe the Mist Lynx needs it more. I don't own Gargoyles so I can't speak to them.

I'll have to give this a try. I wanted something more punchy so I went with this. Cheeky little ****.
Essentially a crappier Shadow Cat until I get mine this summer...
It's very straightforward to run, and it at least lets you fend off IS lights (you can't compete head to head, but they definitely should not underestimate you).
Here is your build with some optimizations:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...dcc4e2e13e98eec
Removed armor from LA
Maxed out armor on Legs (high importance)
Shaved head down a touch
Added a half ton of Gauss ammo
Put all Gauss ammo into Gauss arm to pad crit slots and better protect the Gauss Rifle. (Gauss ammo doesn't explode)

It's not just not God tier hitboxes, it's some of the worst hitboxes in the game.
You overestimate it greatly. I've had some good games, but I'm not blind to its very large downsides. 9 kills and 1300 damage is my current record with 12 ERSLs. That's with plenty of Terribad games due to getting you 48 IS+A arm getting one shot because it's bloody large.
I agree on it's scaling and size, that is IMO what is the issue for the Nova.
Otherwise it has good firepower, good range potential, potentially 2 amazing snipe mounts in the torsos, can run asymmetric loadouts and has Jump Jets the Stromcrow does not have.
Due to it's size I feel it needs LA/RA/LT/RT/LL/RL +Internal Structure quirks.

I think that most people don't give it a fair chance. I know I didn't at first. After all, when you've got the Dire Wolf as a more instantly appealing option why would you go with the Warhawk? But then CW beta rolled out, and it was a lot easier to fit the Warhawk in my drop deck than the DW, so I started getting into it and tweaking builds and found it really isn't a bad mech at all. It can fit very similar builds to the Atlas, which I've had some success with. After that I started achieving more with the Warhawk because I started piloting it like I would a slightly more fragile Atlas.

The four they have picked are the four least used. They are least used because they are crud. I really like the Summoner, but it is crap to be fair.

ERPPC quirks in the range of 25% should be golden for the Adder.
The Ice Ferret would suck less with the gift variants right arm, to sport 5 energy hardpoints. But it would still need massive arm durabillity quirks and energy heat gen quirks.

Even the torso mounts are barely higher than the arm mounts; about a PPC width higher. Crow has them higher, without the JJs. ShadowCat has some high mounts.

Crow for comparison:

The fact it's the same legs makes it worse...

Of course, one really, really needs to take advantage of its current mobility and use a pretty basic loadout.. But I've had nothing but success with the mech, especially with how well it can tank damage.

I've always preferred my Warhawk over the Dire Wolf. Play the Warhawk right and it CAN be better than the Dire.

The only downside is the low durability, compared to a Stormcrow.
The only downside is the low durability, compared to a Stormcrow, esactly.
And this is a huge issue, 'cause if you have a good alpha, but nova's arms wrecked.... you don't have that alpha anymore.
Hitboxes are the prime requirements for a good mech.

IMO the ST mounts are fine because they are roughly cockpit level and the NVA has JJs.
Both the Victor and Highlander, former top tier jump snipe mechs, both have nipple mounted energy hardpoints and waist mounted arm weapons - easily worse locations for the weapons but mitiaged by jump jets.
