After winning the Adder last weekend, I have been trying it out with various builds and cannot decide which driving experience it compares to most.

It is between these two:

Too close to call for me. The quirks cannot come soon enough.

Then you really have bad taste :P The Adder is a nice little beast in the right hands. but it's fine people think its junk because it means they wont be wary when it comes slithering fangs ready.

Every time I see somebody complain about how terrible/hard/bad the Adder is I laugh and think about how much fun I've been having with it lately between my gauss build and my lbx 20 build.
Sure it's not tbr roflstomp tier but if you take time to learn how to play it it's a blast.

Every "X mech is terrible" thread always brings out a number of die hard fans, and this thread will be no different.

Considering its firepower and speed, the Adder is basically like a small medium mech with cardboard armour.

Not only does it need some serious PPC heat reduction quirks if PGI wants it to be used as a PPC sniper, but I think it would also benefit a lot from acceleration / deceleration quirks, because its relatively tiny engine and low slung arms makes it harder to snipe without exposing yourself too long to enemy snipers.

It's a pretty great LRM boat for a 35 ton mech though.

Not doing badly in it. Just that there is no MECH that can't do however you set it up better. You are right, it is fun anyway.
It would be nice if the Prime got some good ERPPC quirks so you could actually drive the standard build.

No other mech can prowl like the Adder! I just love the feeling piloting it. I'd suggest trying some alternative loadouts. I run one of mine as 2x cerppc, but never really liked it. The builds I did like however was:

1. 1x cerppc + 3x SRM6 (http://mwo.smurfy-ne...fb344fdf5f50683)
2. 2x cLPL + 2x SRM4 (http://mwo.smurfy-ne...69b1208b75a0514)

There are no terribile mechs in this game. In the right hands, all of them can do good.

The Adder is one of those mechs that looks bad but just because requires a lot of experience in order to achieve good results. It doesn't have JJ nor is faster than other lights, so your position is very important. The heat management in even more important, because it runs very hot.
And the same goes for the Gargoyle.

Let's see what happens after the quirks.

If you like the Kitfox, and don't care for ECM and JJs... the Adder is for you.

Otherwise, you are honestly planning on torturing yourself otherwise... the Free Adder-Prime notwithstanding...

Just have to add that I liked the Adder much better than the Kit Fox because of it's high ST hardpoints. Kitty has everything in the arms, I found that a bit difficult even with ecm... otherwise, like red devil said above, positioning and awareness is very important due to the low speed.

Liked piloting my Adders just as much if not more than my Kit Foxes.

Normally that would be the overriding factor, but JJs minimize that aspect and well... ECM is ECM.

The Adder has PPCs, but that said the mech is just not a good plattform to wear them. You don't have high mounts, you can't jump, you are to slow to make a range battle with fast repositioning of those versions we got - there is just no point in equiping C-ErPPCs at least for me on this mech. Well it would help the stock mech i guess, but the mech won't become better anyhow. The root of the problem is the ppc in itself and on this mech it is just not worth to carry. I rather enjoy adders with other loadouts. I like the LpL+ML and the uac10+ML build i drive. Those are more efficent since you can't leave the group for long range ambush or you get picked off by faster lights and in group support of heavy/assaults the 60 pin point damage with overheat are just a silly way to protect them.

Adder don't need quirqs. It needs removable framer and then it will become good.

Removing the flamer does not change much. You gain a high-mounted laser hardpoint or another 1.4 DHS and then what?

A -X% heat generation for energy weapons is much more useful.
