I barely dare to ask, but could you do a gif like this with the Zeus and the Awesome, please?

The flopping arms when a stormcrow walks is ugly.

I always loved the cougar animation.

The clan release was strictly a cash grab and rushed, so of course the quality was terrible.

I used to look forward to new robots. Nowadays, not so much, because new robots always end up looking worse than what came before.

We've got terms like VCRs, hoverjets, pumping the jets, scaling, cancer, missile tubes, and legos now.

Man, I don't know, but somewhere down the line, I think they cut something out.

Above, catapult from 2012. This is my ancient A1, and I still have it sitting in my mechlab to this day. This one picture is very well known. You've seen this picture.

Same A1, after some additions.

The same catapult. Not even kidding. It's the same one I got all those years ago!

It used to be rare to get misscaled mechs. Nowadays every other mech is the wrong size

The catapult needs to lose a lot of weight, or the 35 ton heavier king crab is too small. Pick one.

Scaling in CBT doesn't really matter. In an FPS game, it does matter. Imagine if the TF2 scout was the size of the heavy. He has way less lifepoints and guns than the heavy to begin with, and now he's a huge target.

Planetside 2, all the dudes not in a vehicle or powersuit are the same size...

...I am not disagreeing, though, that a huge look at mech scaling needs to be done. Its just a point that if PGI had decided to adhere closely to BT, then things would be much much worse.

MWO has very little to do with CBT, and has never aimed to 'adhere closely' to it. There was absolutely no reason they couldn't put some work into scaling, so half the mechs weren't DoA trash.

MWO's poor scaling and disregard for robot sizes is a long-standing issue.

You'd be surprised. Yes there are some oddballs (the Locust would be 0.3 meters taller than in MWO, Jenner would be taller but nowhere near as Aligator-long, this is because instead of short stubby legs it had really long legs for ease in shooting over hills), but in general almost everything would be shorter. Atlas? Current 17.6 meters, reality less than 13.5 meters (MWO Hunchback is 13.6 meters).

BT Hunchback? Nearly the same height as a BT Commando, just fatter. BT Commando? 8.2 to 8.5 meters tall depending on the version, Hunchback in the same range. MWO Commando? 9.7 meters tall. Raven would be about as tall as the MWO Locust.

MW Panther.
Posted Image

The BT depiction is that only the pilot's head would fit inside the Panther's "head."
Posted Image
That's... quite a bit of room.

BT.
60 ton Dragon.
Posted Image
Might also add -- this Dragon's belly isn't quite so huge.

BT 55 ton Shadowhawk
Posted Image
The Shadowhawk 2-series has really light armor and it kinda makes sense given its tiny size. The Wolverine is QUITE a bit bigger. However, this changes with the 5 series, which are depicted to be as tall to taller than Wolverines. So there'd be a huge size difference between the 2nd Generation Shadowhawks and the Marik-created 5th Generation Shadowhawk. What really changed? Endo steel structure, lots more armor, double heatsinks and an XL engine all made it a LOT bigger.

Shadowhawk in MWO. Back of head.

Body next to tank.
Posted Image
Carrying a tank.
Posted Image

55 ton Wolverine. <--Deliberately depicted as larger and bulkier than the Shadowhawk. Yet...
Posted Image
Huh, it can't carry or throw tanks. Even the MWO 35 ton Panther could do that with a 55 ton tank given MWO's scales!

This 'wheel' is 9 meters tall.
Posted Image

And this isn't the bridge of a Starship.
Posted Image
It's the head of MWO's Highlander! (The above pilot is MWO's scale, the below pilot is rescaled to 5' so ignore that tidbit).
Posted Image
You could fit 20 people in there!

That's the back end of the MWO Commando. Seems like this one could probably throw the BT Shadowhawk around like a toy.
Posted Image
9.7 meters tall is the height of the MWO Commando.

Of course, from what I'm reading and seeing as of late -- you didn't sit in a Hunchback or Shadowhawk 2-series (you can in the 5M). There is no chair. You stand. The Shadowhawk, Hunchback and Orion's windows barely showed the pilot's head and shoulders. That was it. The Hunchback's head is tilted forward to give the pilot some head room in case of impact. Catapults? Their original design of being such thick, twist-less mechs with huge bodies and small launchers are because they're actually 8.3 meters (shorter than anything in MWO in terms of mechs), and individual LRMs are the size of Stinger Missiles that modern infantry can carry on their shoulders.

MWO's scale. Note they put the Jenner at 10 meters tall and the Catapult at over 15 meters. Alexis's art was not intended to depict it at over 15 meters tall but instead closer to 10 (which is still tall, but reasonable considering the elevation and addition of a pelvis).
Posted Image
BT's scale says anything below the chest would be obscured (based on a description). The missile pods on this model below are exaggeratedly large I might add.
Posted Image

MWO Centurion is 14.7 meters. Executioner, the tallest Mech to ever exist in BT until 3065... is 14.4 meters tall. The Gargoyle, 14.2 meters tall. MWO's version is a little over 16 meters tall.

The Clan 20 and 25 ton mechs would be slightly taller. The Kitfox and Adder would actually shrink (but lose torso twist in the process). The Dire Whale, Warhawk, Timber Wolves and Summoners would all be shorter than the MWO Hunchback.

An almost universal truth is that all mechs with Endo Steel are depicted as having significantly more surface area. Add endo steel -- get bigger -- have larger hitboxes -- be easier to kill.

Huh, funny how that goes.

I'm not talking about their overall size, but rather, the size of mechs in relation to each other. Myst Lynx almost as tall as a Warhawk? That happens in BT. :(

The Atlas could be 25 meters tall for all I care (no, not really), as long as other mechs are reasonably scaled to follow suit, which isn't happening in some cases in MWO. (side not: a slightly smaller overall scale than what we have right now I feel would better serve the game)
