Tried GIMP, but Paint.net is my tool of choice, I just need to re-learn it. I'll install GIMP just in case.

Here is a thread that tells how to check surface area in Gimp. Might work for paint no idea.

Edit save selection saves your current selection and automatically drops you in
the saved channel which represents your selection. You are no longer in the

Yup. I could take things out of context and twist was said. Kinda like you just did. What else is new?

Not sure how me not remembering what quirks the GRG was getting makes me a hypocrite, but hey, since you are always right, I'll take your word for it.

Height is not a bad thing. A tall thin mech is a good over all design. If the volume is any where close to correct then there is zero problem with the over all design of the mech.

Also metamechs is not just talking about comp play. The Shadowhawk height and thinness is true for all play.


I did say that in the OP, when I stress that this isnt about the grasshopper being DoA etc. etc.

In the Battletech that I know, assault mechs are considerably larger than heavies.

If we get real, all mechs are incredibly lightweight for their size, and please dont throw any sci fi soft science at me.

The minis often are terribly scaled, but it's pathetic that a video game is managing to do even worse in some cases. The grasshopper comes up to an atlas's chest.

I also think most mechs are far too squished in MWO however. The Centurion in particular lost all of the grace from Alex's sleek artwork.

Love paint.net. It's like MS paint, but with layers!

Anyway say what you want about being tall being great for firing positions, JJ's can get you high anyway. For this mech height is going to be a real pain with a lot of cover being smaller than it. Smaller mechs have a lot easier time finding cover that will obscure them completely, especially when it comes to hiding from LRMs. This Grasshopper? Yeah it's going to have a real hard time finding good cover.

See but you have not proven it is not scaled correctly. All you have shown is its kinda tall. Not really much to go on.

it keeps looking worse.

The phract is already a large mech, and the grasshopper looks a full weight class heavier.

Atlas height is not kinda tall, it's incredibly so.

click on the resistance page and the mechs grow larger from left to right

this mech is gigantic

do you like the scale of the dragon\quickdraw\centurion? do you like '55 ton scale?'

If so we already disagreed on this topic months ago, and will have to agree to disagree,

Back to the topic, you'll more commonly be fighting in cover which amounts to the same elevation, so that's how more people see it at first.

But since you have a greater advantage fighting down, you'll have an even worse time fighting upwards.
Also, you best pray that the torso up and down angle is good.

Again depending on the mech I choose to play, I Bait, I deceive, I stalk. I wait. I target first and seek out components that are compimised or lore the enemy in an area of my advantage and his disadvantage. I don't fight "commonly" homie. There are many ways to skin a cat .It looks like you just want to charge in and play this as you would a Atlas. In this case you are correct . This mech is NOT for you

Cover wont be impossible, but definitely harder to find.

No, not that part.

The part where you harp on the Summoner.

For buffs, for unlocked Endo, for how that is so important for your mech.


When someone else does that for a different mech? "Metawhoring".

Most cover that tall is usually fairly wide anyway. Finding useful cover that tall on most maps it tough to being with.

More surface area is never a good thing. Tall is also not a great thing, because it makes it hard to find cover. I'm sure the mech isn't DOA, but I would like to see people stop saying that an oversized grasshopper is somehow a good thing.
