It's likely most of this stuff is authored at 2k-4k anyway and they just use a crytif profile that changes the res to whatever spec they were aiming for. In other words they could batch resave all the textures at a different res if they wanted pretty easily. It would take a while to do it manually if we are including all the rgb masks for the all the camo specs per mech. But wouldn't take that long to go through all the dif/spec/normal for the mechs if they wanted to.

The AS7-D(F) looks absolutely horrible. Please tell me those are not 2k, unless they were 512 textures stretched to 2k, lol.

Game runs on Cryengine.

Some Textures look PS2 quality.

There's no excuse for this... seriously, there are some mechs that look worse, and don't get me started on how low-res the new faction camo looks on some mechs, when I can barely read some of the text on the Davion camo, there's an issue.

Agreed. I didn't consider myself a graphics snob until I looked at those camos on the Grasshopper. They just look blurry and crappy. Then I loaded the Phoenix skin onto a Thunderbolt. Compared to the same skin on the Battlemaster, the flames look terrible.

So, I guess I'm a graphics snob now. :(

BTW: We were teased a 4k res texture pack back in June of 2014

Karl
You teased us a while back with the mention of a 4k res pack, any update on that by chance?

No updates on this as of yet. I would still really love to see this released soon though. :) There's some logistics we need to work out, in terms of patching and content delivery first; but the artists have already done their part.

Karl, thank you so much for responding to the question.

I am however an evil, and vile person and will ask you another related question.

Do you know if there are any plans to normalize textures prior to a high res pack? as it currently stands our texture resolutions are a little all over the place.
Spoiler

That's an impressive document! I am not aware of any plans, but that doesn't mean none are in place. I'm guessing each of those resolutions was chosen by an artist as being the 'best' tradeoff between patch size and visual quality. That said, Dennis surprised many of us with the HPG hitbox fixes recently.

Last words I heard on the subject.

I also support higher res textures with the option to stay with the current res for lower-end computers.

However...we also need better in-game lighting on the mechs. Currently many maps (like Alpine) have such poor lighting that the mech colors and textures are just too dark to really showcase the colors and textures. No amount of additional detail will make up for poor lighting conditions.

Anyone else notice that the Illya Muromets looks better then it did? Well it got a .rgb bump to 2k, so now the Illya is rocking a 1k Dif, 2k RGB, and 2k SPC for the primary parts.

It is a good improvement for that one mech, Saddly however the normal Cataphract was not so lucky.

There is also a reason that the Loyalty mechs are some of the best looking in the game at this moment. They rock a full 2k texture res for DIF/RGB/SPC

Don't forget that all hero mechs have higher resolutions too. There seems to be a pattern here...

FALSE, about half of the hero mechs are in that ok range where they are mixed 1k/2k, but the only hero mechs which uses all 2k resolution textures is La Malinche, and Hellslinger

The Illya Muromets did get a RGB bump to 2k with the the geometry change.

I will sign on as well. The Higher the Texture Res. the better. A separate DNLD would likely works best for all parties involved. :)

P.S. Keep after tightening those Maps as well. ;)

I really wish that all of the mechs had 2k res textures like the Banshee, so they could ALL look that good :)

Wow, now I'm sad I didn't build a 4k setup that screen shot is wonderful.

Oh well, I'll deal with 1080p until skylake I suppose.

Those of us with 3GB or more vram would take a very minimal performance hit. This seems like a no-brainer.
