Im in for anything that makes this game look better. Even now it looks half as good as it used to. this game is not geared for ppl with 8bit nintendo machines, if it was they wouldnt charged over 100 bucks for mech packs. If people complain that they have a system that cannot run higher spec content they are the minority these days. I really wish pgi would step up and deliver high end res packs

Quick comparison for those who do not know the difference between 1k, 2k, and 4k.

An example of what I am talking about.

The Awesome in Applejack (2k/2k/2k RGB/DIF/SPC for Body and Variant parts) and the Awesome in PC Gamer (1k/1k/2k Main, 1k/1k/1k Variant)

Colors are Liao Dark Green / Gamboge / Pheonix Black

And the actual textures them self 100% size.

It kinda makes me sad, even with the crazy resolutions Lordred pulls out, somehow the 1k textures still look...bad.

Not to mention, that the game has slowly gotten less and less visually attractive as the years go on.

I'd love an option for 4k textures and normalization for 2k but then that would require work so I'm not gonna hold my breath.

There is one nice thing on the Highlander:

Those textures on the shoulder look amazing. Way better then most of the stuff in the game.
Sadly, if we push the textures up, this games performance might suffer even more. It already runs like sh*t on most systems.

Better textures would be nice, but remember it would cause the client to get bigger. Depending on the size a seedws torrent by the devs might be the best option.

This is why having an optional higher res download would be better.

I am not worried about the footprint of the game, nore is anyone who has a a highend system.

@lordred
You may not, and I may not, but pgi may not have their distro system set up to handle that nuns of download structure. After all we have to download a whole new client for testing, and pgi artist do seem to be concerned about texture and client size. I suspect a non standard install may be the only way to get this done

For those intrested.

If we normalized all mechs in the game down to 1K the combined size of the textures just for mechs would be about 2.5gb

If we normalized all mechs in the game up to 2K the combined size of textures just for mechs would be about 20gb.

Prior to compression.

And the 4k? Seriously, I've got a 1TB drive that's mostly empty and that's my main drive, I can go buy another 1TB for under $50 bucks, who cares about 20gb or even 40gb, hell I've got more music than that by a factor of 5.

Like with a lot of art related things.. they really need to be consistent.

teres a theme of lack of consistency in the art area of the game.

In scale and several other areas.

Hardly, an improvement in uniformity of high end visuals would make people more interested in purchasing paint schemes. As it is now many of them are just not worth the cost for a muddy edged finish.

With all the FPS they got back in the recent HUD improvments, they can easily standardize the texture resolutions to a higher lvl

They seriously need to do something.

The founders Atlas, looks like it's been splattered with muddy textures everywhere. Compare that to the loyalty atlas, for instance...

It's just sad how bad some of the mechs look. I remember Closed Beta, being blow away by the look of the mechs. But now, now half the mechs look like crap, half of those look crappier, and the remaining half looks okish.

Between this, and the decline in sound quality...

Seriously, 2k normalization would be just fine, 4k.. Well sperate download only, because 63 GB of textures would make my ISP **** bricks.
