Afterall, even Wargaming is converting all their tanks to newer "HD" models and textures, (Spoilers: They look fantastic)

I really don't know if I can purchase anymore packs on the strength of Concept Art alone. The actual finished product is setting an unwanted trend.

Lordred nudged me about this a couple days ago, and I did some asking around today to see where we might stand on this.
Texture normalization and a 4K pack release are not something that the art department has in production at the moment. Unfortunately, the resources and time available right now aren't going to provide us with the opportunity to work on this in the near future.
What the hell?
The mechs are the flagship of game. Your actual selling points. Textures which are PAID for needs to be top of the line.
What is PGI thinking?

Please PGI. At least up everything to 2K or release a texture pack. I understand you want to keep the install base size as little as possible, but also understand that it's also costing you sales in the camo department.

EDIT: Thanks for checking. But I are sad.

I don't know how to do that. People say "vote with your wallet", but lower sales is a rather non-specific sort of communication. We could stop buying colours and camo, but that would probably just result in PGI taking even longer to get camo patterns ready for each mech pack.
I guess our only recourse... is Twitter.

I have been bugging Russ once a week on Twitter about this.

We actually scaled back a bit which is why you see the shift to 1k reason being we were releasing Mechs/Skins quite aggressively and were concerned about ballooning the install footprint I think we're currently sitting around the 4GB mark for a full install which we're still ok with but with many more Mechs/Skins to come (Clans) we need to be mindful of the install size.
I'm hoping to get some more time to investigate newer third party texture compression tools that are around that could allow us to potentially either halve the install footprint or use larger textures for the same cost e.g. 2k for all Mechs while retaining a similar install size. The tradeoff here is we need to evaluate texture compression times (internal build time costs) and decompression times (runtime client costs i.e. potentially slower level loads) to see if it makes sense.
I agree that I would like to see us use the higher quality textures our artists author at higher resolution so getting those in your hands is great if we can do it but so long as it doesn't come at the cost of a bloated installer or long load times etc.
Another potential solution we continue to toy with (again nothing concrete) is the idea of having a high res texture pack available that is an optional download (potentially selectable in the patcher) so it can be avoided for users who don't think they have a GPU that can absorb the extra bandwidth or don't want the extra install size.

Thanks for the response Alex.
By the way, any information on what they ARE working on? Because we never, at any given moment, know what each department is working on. That's just not the kind of information PGI gives out, and that transparency would really be great for the community.

MWO most definitely isn't anywhere near where graphics should be on a modern game and the direction of development should be improving the looks. As it was aptly put, the biggest whales have the most expensive rigs.
Then again I play the game with my nostalgia glasses on, so 8bit graphics are alright.

BTW: Unrelated, I just ordered a Titan-X to replace my GTX980.

The 980 is just on the market...Don't ya think it's a waste of money?
No. The 4gb frame buffer of the 980 is insufficient for my uses. The Titan X has 12gb And I have sold my 980 to off set the titan.
Infact with maxwells memory compression algorithm, it produces less sharp images then my older kepler based GTX680 4gb did
