Probably doesn't help that I took them out for the first time right in the middle of my worst losing streak in months.

The weapons loadout makes me think of the Nova-S. Pulse lasers are scary.

I usually run Mediums (4 Mastered), a few Lights (3 Mastered), 1 Assault (1 Mastered except 1 variant) and just recently started getting into Heavies (none Mastered).
The following are builds I have looked at for Hoppers
All have been tested on Terra Therma, I do that usually to see how they run on the hottest map before playing. Outside center, heat stays at 12% when moving full speed. These are slower than my Medium speeds though faster than the Awesomes I ran with Tweak and these have nothing unlocked yet.
Grasshopper-5J
Outside center, 2ERLLs make 21% heat, 4MLs cause 23%.
Does this Mech have some kind of problem? The only 5J I have seen so far had AMS firing even when out of ammo and no missiles flying just like a Crab's MGs I once saw.
Grasshopper-5H
This one makes 23% heat from the 4MLs and 31% from 3LLs. Feels a bit slow. I know there is half a ton left, I kept the engines at 300 to swap one between while testing.
Grasshopper-5N
29% from 2PPCs, 23% from 4ML. I know there is half a ton left, I kept the engines at 300 to swap one between while testing.
I am also thinking of trying SLs in place of MLs despite the short range, it would free up a bit of tonnage for a bigger engine.

Been running this 5H build. Make sure to put your big guns in the side torsos in last, the first weapon in goes in the lower slot. I like the layout of firepower on the 5H best, it's got two really high ST mounts that are good for firing over allies or cover. I've only just started playing this. First game I had 4 kills and slightly under 500 damage, second game I got pasted pretty quick, but I was pretty much defending a cap point solo against a whole lance of heavies and assaults, and still managed to rack up almost 300 damage in about 2 minutes. The Wub is strong in the Hopper it seems.
I've got an XL 325, and am not sure I'd go much bigger. It's not as zippy as a clan heavy, but it's not stupid slow, and it leaves a lot of space for guns. I could definitely see a case for sticking with standard engines on this guy though, as he seems to be designed for brawling. Wouldn't leave as much tonnage for heavier lasers though.

So far, I am quite pleased with this setup. Taking the ER large laser into one of the arms frees up space for the 2 medium pulse in the middle, leaving weapons when the arms are blown up. Though you still have to watch the heat.
Why do you have FF and not Endo-Steel? I've seen that on a few Zeus 9S builds but it comes with that as stock so I figure that's how that happened. But in this case the 5J doesn't so you've added FF yourself. ES costs 14 slots just like FF but saves more tonnage so always take ES over FF. FF is really only of use when you've already got ES and can still afford the slots.

Right now im using 325 and 350 xls
If i dont I could just run a medium with same ammount of damage and cooling.

Have to agree, I find running 340 at least gives the best results.
I tried STD300 while fitting a decent weapon loadout but it moves too slow.

Reason for FF is, that after installing ES, I still have some weight left, but no free slots for anything. Sure, you could go and put in bigger reactor like this one:
GHR-5J MK II
Though I at least cannot see a real advantage between the 280 and 295. Thus why I choose FF on this config.
