Hunchbacks were iconic in their own right. Summoner was definitely iconic, in most cases wherever there was a Timber Wolf there was a Summoner nearby.
By extension, you might also notice the IS had a captured and highly disrepaired Mad Dog.
Which also became iconic in its own way.
There's a Shadow Cat in there too. So that can make for a good future goal as well.

On a side note, for those interested in the events of MW2's intro:

I also like the Devastator, though it's not in the game yet.
For you, I would recommend the Centurions or Hunchbacks. Both are relatively iconic with Kai Allard's Yen Lo Wang being perhaps the most iconic Hero Mech around.

Madcat is definitely the most iconic clan mech I reckon. My opinion, not necessarily the 'most' iconic, but definitely up there

Essentially, for something to be iconic, it should stand for something else - so you don't just look at a 'mech say, "Hey, that's a Quickdraw, I love that 'mech" - rather, you should say to yourself, "Ah, Battletech."

For mechs with relatively unique profiles that I recall fondly, you can't really go wrong with the Jenner/Jenner IIC, the Rifleman IIC, the Mad Dog, the Summoner, the Commando, and the Executioner.
For mechs that have joined the list that I will recall fondly in the future from playing this game, you've got the Locust, the King Crab, the Dragon, the Catapult, and the Hunchback

Madcat, Atlas, Thor, Vulture, Uller, Jagermech, Catapult, Raven, Bushwacker, Hunchback, Cougar, Shadowcat
Mainly I think those feel iconic to me because they were starter mechs in those games or just good mechs that I liked using. They also have unique profiles.

Also, the Raven.

I'm actually saddened by the general lack of Ravens in the books I've got so far. Granted I'm not through them yet, but no arts yet. Wound up finding the Annihilator before the Raven.

On a side note:
The typical mercenary. Found in Battletech: Mercenaries (sourcebook)

Pilot of the Heavy Metal heromech, see left.
Ever wonder where all the room for hydrolics are on a mech? Stop wondering; there are none. Mechs have Muscles! They are called Myomer for short. Myomer Muscular Architecture.

What does a Mechwarrior wear? Almost nothing.

Too bad I ran out of thumbs for the rest of the post though, since I always liked the cooling vest bit of lore, and found Snord's Irregulars to be one of the funnier canon stories.
