Even when we are on TS our band o' pirates chimes onto VOIP at the same time in 4+ man drops to inform the PUGs or other groups what we are doing or to ask how we can help the strategy they have come up with on VOIP as well.

There will always by jackholes in any game and that should not deter the greater portion of awesome people that play tis game.

I was in a unit. I'm untagged because I don't choose to be in one anymore. I still like to communicate during my matches, I understand the minimap and how to call out movements, which is exactly what I use it for in game. I request pushes when the time is right, according to me anyways.

Dear people who say "You should get on a TS server and join a unit."
  • I don't play MWO the way you do
  • I've probably spent more money on it than a lot of people in units have
  • I don't want to commit to a team for more than one match at a time, because I like to mess around in the mech lab and don't want to hold people back.
  • Got enough friends, don't need online camaraderie. Love 'em for one match and then leave 'em, that's my method.

Personally I'm in favor of a low-threshold communication system such as VOIP to promote teamwork in random groups.

I fondly recall the Crimson Strait match where one brave commander communicated a daring pincer movement where our heavies and assault held the line while our lights and mediums mopped up their stragglers before their team realized what was happening. This would never have been possible without the magic of near-instant target and movement orders delivered in a soothing yet commanding voice :)

Also, while I would gladly join the random and nonrandom banter I do live together with my girlfriend and she enjoys her evenings by relaxing in the quiet of our living room while I blast big stompy robots with my headset on ^.^

I have the voip turned on but I rarely talk. I like the fact we have voip but it is rarely useful and the sound quality is so bad that you cannot understand what is being said.

Maybe so but I do remember when VOIP was announced and the whole forums went MEEEHHHH NO THANKS I would rather have new game modes and maps first.

AHH yes I do been around long before you first week of MWO just posting the truth PUGS wanted new maps new game modes hundreds of usefull fixes ETC VOIP was voted down twice in 3 years and I was these groups bending his=RUSS ear till he said ok lets put it in the game it has not helped MWO overall and many more important thing could have been done to enhance the game.

If Russ does not get rid of his EAR TROLLS this game will continue to decline.
Are you really pulling the you have been around longer than he has card? If that is the case I hate to break it to you, but I have been around longer than you and while everyone not just pugs wants more game modes and maps VOIP has been requested many times primarily from the pugs since the beginning. As someone who pugs the vast majority of the time VOIP is a welcome addition and something they should have added long ago. As for groups most never needed it because they had other options, but some did ask for it to help the crying pugs who were always complaining about how unfair it was that groups could communicate with 3rd party apps.

What you remember and what actually happened are two very different things. There were some that didn't want it, some that did want it, and some that didn't care one way or the other. At no point in time has the "whole forums" been in agreement on anything let alone on something like VOIP.

The wonderful mods that banned some of the early players because of stupid reasons(I started 1 week after MWO was online) had to make new accounts to just post topics or replies on the forums. Im glad some of them have been fired over all the banning accounts and more should be fired now.

I remember the same things you do but if you tie in all the topics and pols on VOIP new game modes and maps were needed before VOIP that is a fact.Im not saying VOIP is totally useless but in its current form it is all but useless by the very pugs you are saying wanted it because of no tactical information being displayed when ® targeting is used.

Voip needed to be part of the game before Open Beta, not years afterward. If it's part of the game from the start then the playerbase can be trained to use it right from the get go - they waited far to long and now most of the player base is conditioned to either ignore communication entirely or don't even know it exists.

I've played many games with voip and had plenty of solo queue players use it, I've had pugs that beat premades. If Voip is a failure then its because PGI dragged their heels introducing it, not because solo players are incapable of using it..

I have noticed this also. In games like counter-strike and L4D where in game voice has been there from the very start you hear it used in almost every game.

That said, I've played plenty MWO games where people used the comms... My guess is OP is just throwing a tantrum for some reason.

It would help a lot if the voice quality was better than that of a cup on a string strung between Moscow and New York.

I don't recall anyone being fired over account bans, but there were a number of account bans for one reason or another. PGI did however allow many if not all of those accounts to be unbanned as a new start for both the Devs and the players that had been banned. Some I am sure have been banned again because they couldn't behave, but it is what it is. As for VOIP you keep speaking as if the desire to have new maps/modes is somehow mutually exclusive with the desire to have VOIP when it is not. There was nothing wrong with them adding VOIP other than they should have done it from the start instead of waiting so long. I have a hard time justifying idea that it should have delayed even further because some feel the devs haven't reached some arbitrary number of maps/modes being added before they are apparently allowed to work on something else that they game needed.

I heard VOIP being used yesterday. Only it was someone trolling the magician at the start of the game and well into the battle. The whole time they were blocking and causing more chaos within the team as they were not playing attentin to the battle and jamming up the comma. Needless to say they both died while arguing. Don't rememver if my team pulled it out or not.
