Why Do You Still Play This Game?

2. I don't take breaks from gaming, I use games to take a non-committal break from the truly necessary and meaningful things in life. The need or possibility to take such breaks may vary. For example I am currently at the Forum Social Mondial in Tunis, so obviously I don't play right now.
3. UI, it's horrible, but I want to recognise here that Russ has informed us about upcoming improvements. More diverse and immersive gameplay content, including PVE, which is also coming according to Russ.
A big thing, to me at least, which no one from PGI has commented on is the lack of in game context in terms of mech descriptions, history, planet information and so on, commonly known as "fluff". WE NEED FLUFF! Seriously, games need fluff, it is a major vacuum in MWO.
Fixing placeholders, things like the cockpit screens make the game seem very unpolished, and that's a shame.

1. Why do you still play this game?
I've loved BattleTech for a very long time, and have played all the games since the Crescent Hawk duology graced my DOS rig. Once upon a time I knew lots of people involved in the game, and could even point out a (very) few references to myself in BT products. This IP is dear to me, and spending time with others who love it feels nice.
2. Do you take regularly breaks? If so, why?
Oh yes, definitely. I'll leave things for weeks, even months, at a time. Usually the only thing that prompts my return is a friend wanting to play, some major new feature (rare as they are), or an occasional need for a 'Mech fix. I'll stick around for a week or two, then wander off again. It isn't like the days of Beta, when my friends and I would play every night, all night.
3. How can PGI improve? What would you like to have see it changed?
I doubt anything I could suggest would be anything other than an exercise in fantasy. For one, the "nerf Clan/IS/my left toe" trend bothers me intensely. Clans are meant to be powerful at this point. Trying to balance them now will only screw up IS tech developments in the future. If they want more balance, 3050-3052 is NOT the timeframe to play with. Secondly, ghost heat is the most asinine thing I've ever encountered. I mean, I understand the "why" for it, but it is so very broken that I actually turn my computer off in disgust every now and then. What could change for it? Put Double Heat Sinks back to a full 2.0 value. Yeah, leave the penalty, but give players a chance to combat it through judicious choice making in the build process. Or even better, do away with it altogether and leave everything else the way it is. Hot builds are hot, regardless of GH or not, and always will be. Finally, and I know things have come a long way on this front, the transparency issues with PGI (and formerly IGP) burned me, and even with the goodwill put forth, I'm gun shy. Too many things still carry the taint of those times, and while forward momentum is good momentum, endless grab deals, shady comments off of the official forums, and a variety of other behaviors keep me firmly at arm's length to this game.
Anyway, there ya go.

I love the fact that it is not just another fps with a health bar and the odd headshot. Where you shoot something really matters. That and it brings back memories of playing tabletop.

No PVE, I love PVP but after awhile I need something a little less competitive.

Tough to narrow this down. As much as I love the game there are a few things I would really love to see changed. First the heat scale, like tabletop you should be able to field a viable heat neutral build and standard heat sinks should be viable for some builds. Second quirks, I like the base idea but I think they should have stuck to defensive quirks as offensive ones often cause cheese builds and limit some of the freedom as far as customizability. Hard to justify some things when a quirk makes another weapon leaps and bounds better. Third ECM, ive posted enough that I won't go into detail because the changes I would like are fairly involved.
This is the only game I have been able to stay interested in since City of Heroes was shut down. Odd leap to this game but there it is

Because Zeus...also, the fact that there is no other Battletech game out there right now with a large community.
2. Do you take regulary breaks? If so, why?
Yes, because I need to go to bed each night.
3. How can PGI improve? What would you like to have see it changed?
-Get rid of Elo, and match us by weight or BV.
-Allow 2-and-3-man groups into the pug queue, with an even number of groups per team.
-Exchange our current Angel ECM for Guardian ECM.
-Somehow stop the witch-hunt going on against Clan players.
-Fix the Firestarter and Stormcrow.
-Fix Clan autocannons.
-Reduce the benefits of all Clan Targeting Computers, but give greater benefits to moving up from Mk 1 through Mk 7; the Mk 1 is worth the weight, but extra benefit from the others is...debatable, at best.
-Introduce IS Omnimechs, and Clan IIC models.
-Give all mechs a scaling pass.
-Give larger mechs a scaling armor (not internal) buff, based on their hitbox size.
-Put the proper PPC's back on the K2.
-Flesh-out the current mech lineup with variants that have been produced up to the current point in the game's timeline. The VND-3L, for example, was introduced in 3051.
-Buff the worst of the Clan mechs. The current quirk pass is laughable.
-Unf*ck the right arm and left torso on the Centurion.
-Fix the shoulders on the Zeus (they should not pop out from the torso; they also clip into it).
-Make a collision pass on the maps; many bits of terrain have see-through walls protruding out.
-Stop making us go to a third-party website to communicate with you.
That should be enough to get started with, if they care enough to skim their own forums for feedback, for a change.

2) I take a few days here or there. Bad streaks happen to all players and I know to just walk away when I feel I am in one.
3) PGI is improving and as long as they don't give up this game will have the Eve like revival in a year or less....

After thousands of pug drops, I can't stand to see Terra Therma, River City, Forest Valley and other awkward maps. Your patience can tolerate them until a certain point.
2. Yes I take regular breaks. Sometimes and often I take long breaks. Playing other games. One of these days, the break maybe permanent.
3. Improve? Too much to list. To start with, you need to break the Blob to Win mechanic. Another is to stop making maps with few narrow corridors, chokepoints, and gathering points that encourage blob formation and instead, create maps that allow for multiple lines of approach. This game loses depth because of this.
You also need to improve environmental hitpoints, or allow mechs to fire from a higher point to clear obstacles. This is done by raising the firing arm to a near shoulder height position when they fire. Your current system punishes artwork.
You also need to do passes over many mech designs to reduce and standardize hit box size across weight classes, and not let art work predetermnine vulnerability and invulnerability.
Passes must be made over older maps, increase their size, reduce their complexity, reduce accidental enivornment hits and foot traps, make them look brighter, clearer and certainly less muddy and eyestrain.

love Mechwarrior
and MWO somehow captured mech combat the way I love
2. Do you take regulary breaks? If so, why?

2) Yeah, I've taken the occasional multi-month break, its' been a while though since I've done so.
3)Many things,
A) Map Passes: Most of the maps, especially the old ones such as Frozen City and Forrest Colony, need another pass to optimize framerates in them. Especially Frozen City during the blizzard.
B)Damage model's need to be looked at on the whole again, full, careful hit-reg checks on all weaponry, and a re-work of systems such as ECM.
C) Map Hitboxes and "Destructable" terrian. Seriously, this was something a crysis mod had down pat... you're telling me that you have the engine, yet this stuff is beyond you? Come on guys... I mean, how cool would it be to set fire to areas, give flamers a use, Set fire to a location and have mechs have to march through burning areas, driving up their heat? That would be THE SHIZNIT!
D) Increased Critical Hits model. Engine hits mattering, gyro hits mattering, acuatior hits mattering... this stuff needs to happen.

2 Yes, because this game is stale and uninnovative. And I get tired of the constant "balancing", make it right, or don't make it at all. It's little more than cod in robots.(where as LL was/is a proper MW game) I'll add ghost heat, DHS that aren't double, and all that other non sense here too.
3 They can improve it by actually making Mechwarrior, and not cash grab arena robots. MW LL did a better job with NO paycheck.

2.) Yes i take a break for a while usually during the weekdays and come on for the weekend events if i like them. i tried doing cw more but the times i get on most east cost people are off and the queue is low, so i usually go play league. also some patches really effect my fps as my computer should be able to run it fine on low or medium but uses an ati graphics card and it just struggles as the game is not optimized for my specific card or ati cards in general.
3.) Immersion, they need a lot more immersion right now this is just a robot battle in rather limited forms (ex no crouch arms locked into unfavorable firing positions etc). honestly if I hadn't played the previous mechwarrior games and been involved in their community I really wouldent get the feel for it like i did with previous titles. Specifics for CW for instance we need economics, news, a more obvious chat and friend system in more screens. taking a planet currently dose nothing aside from giving your faction some bragging room it should matter planets should have factories buildings etc that the player can influence. basically build more of a interactive world and a bit less of a multilayer online battle arena you already are getting loads of money off the mech sales, also if you add the elemental you'll keep me happy for years. Finally remove ghost heat the balance changes have already Nerfed ppc's enough, they are a iconic weapon and should be useful.

2. Took a break for a year, played other games that interested me more after MWO became stale.
3. Improvements for me would mean making a different game, a coop campaign mechwarrior game with old school live action scenes and a great story.
Now back to reality. Now for MWO being a solo queue player, more maps would be nice. MWO online overall is a very limited game for a solo queue player and im a realist. More interesting maps would be the only thing you can really squeeze out of this for me. Mechs will always be mechs, weapons will always be weapons but the level is the most visual thing that can make you feel each match is different.

All your other games are really bad. And you should feel bad for playing them instead of this game.
Duh.

2) I play every day...but never when im with other half!
3) More maps, improved terrain and more weapons, more game types...2 players are randomly selected to pilot super uber mechs: Gundam or Macross mechs with massive quirk level types:170 KPH speed of a light, very powerful jumpjets, firepower like a heavy: clan level ERPPCs, Gauss rifles, SSRMS, MPLS etc, great armour etc. They face the rest of the 10 pug mechs: FIGHT!

The only game atm with smart, tactical combat gameplay and a bunch of customization. The reason why I still play it, is all the people I'm playing with in TCAF.
2. Do you take regulary breaks? If so, why?
Of course I do. I had 2 months break past summer, and another one in the New Year season. Why? You always get used to good things easily to the point where you don't see their value anymore. You need to let go of things to see their actual value.
3. How can PGI improve? What would you like to have see it changed?
- PGI should get a pause and overlook and tinker with the game in it's current state. If it would make releasing another Mech Package impossible due to limited human resources, they should delay it and do what's need to be done.
- PGI should develop a very specific philosophy around the Mech Quirks to avoid balance issues. Each Quirk has to be logically justified, and as a whole they should make each variant unique at least in it's weight class.
- Some mechs have unpractical scaling, which need to be fixed. Mech size is not something you can balance out very efficiently with Quirks, and trying to do that will screw the balance ever further.
- Many mechs by lore has dynamic Heads. These mech's geometry should be updated to allow a Head to follow the Arm targeting to make low-swung Arms more desirable and high pitch (up/down) freedom on these mechs practically relevant for firing steep angles. These mechs include Commandos, Spiders, Firestarters, Vindicators, Centurions, Trebuchets, Kintaros, Shadow Hawks, Quickdraws, Grasshoppers, Victors and Highlanders.
- PGI should pay some attention to make the best out of User Interface. Some important decision should be made about how it should really be. Many common features like filtering and listing modes still missing.
- Lots of stuff which many has mentioned already.

2. No, but then again, I don't play daily. Normally just weekends and maybe a bit here and there during the week.
3. Fix hitreg. That really needs to be bulletproof for a game of this type.
