No, but that's not what I said. I said "a Locust." I was saying in a Locust (and I have my particular LCT-1E in mind), I would take on any Commando. Even skill, I think the LCT-1E should win every time vs. any Commando (and agree the TDK is the clear winner of the COM line).

Reading back through it's obvious I misread your post, so apologies for that.

I think it depends on the build of the LCT-1E though. I definitely agree if it's the 6x SPL build, but seeing a lot of ML builds. Great shoot n scoot but absolutely no staying power, so in that case I think the Commando would win hands down.

I agree. I run the SPL build for a number of reasons. I have toyed with MLs and they can be fun, but they are terrible in a light duel because of the heat.

I don't understand all this talk of numbers...

If you're in a locust or commando, and you meet an enemy locust or commando and he isn't already damaged, avoid it unless you have friends with you. No matter how good you are, you'll take too much damage and just get killed in the next fight.

And yeah, the Locust has more firepower in the 1E, but the Commando will tank much better, so it really comes down to skill in a 1-on-1.

Not like there are a lot of those in MWO, though.

As someone earlier said - forget about the light duel and just go harass and kill the fatties, then bask in their tears.

Sometimes, you just want something a little more substantially challenging than shooting beached whales.

:) As a rule, though, I agree with eFTy: If you're in a light duel, you've either made a mistake or it's the very end of the match.

But when comparing, it's a reasonable thing to discuss.

It's situational. I duel whenever there is minimal risk of getting ganked by the other guy's friends, which means basically as a light screen for our own team's assaults or as recon in force against the enemy team's equivalent elements. I find that 9 times out of 10 what kills me isn't dueling another light, it's that guy having backup suddenly appear with AC20's and whatnot.

For that matter, the same problem applies to hunting fatties. I can pretty much kill anything if it's by itself, even Firestarters for the most part, but I have a devil of a time even staying alive against three or more enemies simultaneously. It's just too many crosshairs to stay out of, and it gets more efficient to just disengage, as boring as that is.

Of course, this works both ways, and I don't know how many times I've gotten into a fight with some light only to see missiles start raining down on him because my lock is pretty solid, being within 25m of him for the most part. On the other hand, I have taken and even died from friendly fire because I was chasing a light through our formation before too. So, returning to my initial statement, it's situational.

I find that that is the exact same reason why I die in a light. All the time, someone sneaks up behind me and cores me with a well placed AC20 or something similar.

It's annoying when a fattie kills you, even more so with a team fattie.

Light duals suck, it is just spinning in a circle playing the random number hitreg game.
Sure if you are against a newbie with poor circlework coordination you can exploit mistakes. But two decent lights circling tight and fast just breaks hitreg.

This is a thread ideal for my question,is that:

Between a battle of comando 2d and a locust 1v,one equipped with 1 srm 4 and 1 srm 6 and a ml,and the other equipped with 4 machineguns and a ml,both start to shoot face to face without move and not ceasing fire before one of two dies. Who will win??? Is a question of endurance in fire, between this two mech.

One variant which hasn't been mentioned yet is the Locust 3S which I think is a hilarious 4x SRM2 bomber, albeit a very, very hot one. Bring coolshots.

I run my ECM commando with 3xSRM2's+Small pulse it can run outta ammo, but even still you can pull 600+ before it does in a match so it is one tough little cookie.

the 3A with a pair of SRM4's and a pair of Small pulse packs a mean punch too..

the death's Kneel with 4 MPL's is a murder machine, though i will say it runs hot. but if you group the arms as separate, you can fire in pairs when you do and maintain good DPS or use your speed to get to cover to cool off.

Currently, I would say the Locusts (1E and PB) are the better mechs, but a TDK can rock socks if you're up for it. I like drinking and driving, so COMs hold a special place in my heart. Dontor and I have wrecked teams in our COMs back in the day.
