I've told people my plan, and then had them report my position anyway. It wound up getting me killed, instead of getting another couple kills. I was CT cored and trying my best to get them to scatter, and having duly informed my team of my intentions, when suddenly this guy starts telling the other team where I am. He kept it up until an enemy Jager (who was cored out enough that if I'd managed my ambush I'd have one-shot him) used that intel to hunt me down and kill me.

Needless to say I reported the guy.

True.

If you want to run guerrilla warfare in your light, I'll definitely suggest asking teammates for status info on remaining enemies, both tells them you do plan to fight, and makes it more likely you'll get a kill.

Not necessary. The pilot still "playing" will obviously be moving to flank, or snipe, or surprise. The pilot preserving their KDR will obviously run from any enemy and try to shut down to hide.

The mechwarrior who's dead can either watch and help, be a whiner in chat, or in my case. Say "GG" in chat and quit the game and ready up another mech for another game.

ROFL Just happened again, in my Panther, 3 mechs beat up on HPG, One chasing me, I ran to the outside hid in a crevice so they would pass me and I could get them in the back and two of my team mates told them where I was.. Mute Dead People ;p

Woah, that's a douche move. When a game isn't going my way or I think my PUG team sucks and I can't stand to watch it play out while I'm dead, I just leave. Why be an a**hole?

Why not just start feeding the player information and see how they react? If it's a troll, then screenshot and report, otherwise assume people are playing/experimenting/learning/having fun. The majority aren't trolling.

A better solution would be to not lock mechs from launching again if you quit the match early. The mechanic doesn't really add anything to the game. Proposed solution: mechs should only be locked for ~5 minutes after the match has begun, to both prevent people from immediately leaving if they get the wrong map, and to let last survivors play without the rest of the team shouting at you to charge in and die asap to unlock their mech.


...I still think dead people should be muted though.

Actually, unlocking a 'Mech five minutes after match start sounds like a great compromise. By that point anyone who legitimately dies in the match should have already crossed that mark - and if you're consistently dead in under five minutes, git bedder :P - but it still throws a wrench in the AFK farmers' plans. Well, as much of a wrench as timed lockouts have ever thrown at those guys.

I am curious, though, if the lockout is part of the same code that lets you earn match rewards for matches you die and quit out on. We'd have to ask Piranha if reducing/eliminating the timed lockouts would also reduce/eliminate match rewards for matches your 'Mech bails early on. Admittedly if that IS the case it needs fixing pronto, but this might actually be a positive step forward in this particular nauseatingly endless debate. Why not give it a shot? Someone shoot up Russ' Twitter and see if he responds to it.

If the whole team is wiped and the lone sniper who hid in an ecm bubble is at 90% and poked poorly with 20max alpha, my intentions are sometimes a little skewed. I would like to feel the need to apologize, but I dont.

If you want people to be respectful to you, then you need to be respectful to them. I will never rat out the last man if they are still playing, either by empirical evidence or by communication. The second you think wasting my time is your right...well then I feel it is my right not to have my time wasted.

If you're the last light alive, then you've usually done something wrong and tried soloing somewhere. The whole 'shutting down to lead the enemy spread' thing is already pure egoism, since it's just wasting everyones time to give you some tiny chance to play hero.


Make your play while your team is alive or don't. Nobody minds a retreating battle, but everything else is just pushing it for no good reason.

It's not tied to the match rewards. It's an anti C-Bill farming mechanic that was added in closed beta. In early closed beta players could drop in a mech, quit, drop in a new match, quit, drop in a new match quit, etc. Yes they only got the match win/loss rewards plus any salvage if the team managed to win anyways, but they could do 100+ drops an hour with no effort and earn a ton of C-Bills. It was also easily scripted so people could farm C-bills all day while they were at work. The lockout stops that kind of farming.
