Just noticed that Elite Dangerous has been moved to STEAM and it is a much newer game than MWO. Anyone heard anything?

I think they've been vague on the subject of when and Steam, wanting to take certain steps.

Last I heard, the plan was that PGI wanted MWO on Steam by year's end. And before they get there they want CW fully up and running (probably just before or just as they drop the Beta tag from CW), mechbay UI overhaul, and new player experience. So far they seem to be working at a good pace, and I hope they hit all their milestones in good stride.

Honestly, I think PGIs bitten off more than is wise, but they've found their teeth since they got rid of Infinite Boat Anchor. I'm not going to say it's impossible for them to hit steam earlier, just that a more cautious timeline leaves less room for disappointment.

Rumor mill is that PGI has a full blown tutorial in the design pipe that they want out before a Steam release. Mind you, this is hardly the only thing holding them back from a Steam release and it's smart to be patient and wait for the game to be in a proper state to handle the surge of new people completely clueless to the game.

It will get judged on a wide scale once it hits a massive surge in exposure that a Steam release would bring. Steam's Day One impressions will have a lasting impact. I'm confident that Russ and the gang are handling the preparations properly and we will start to see these features rollout once CW has gotten a high enough level of polish.

Honestly I'm not sure I see any realistic changes that would result in a great steam debut. There are so many issues that need addressing from the lack luster core game modes to the overly grindy economy and overpriced MC cost on.. well everything. A thorough tutorial though is absolutely mandatory before a Steam release... But then I felt that tutorial was mandatory before Closed Beta ended and I guess they figured youtube videos were professional enough then..

Elite Dangerous is also a larger team, has a lot more money behind it, has a way better marketing team and is an easier sell given its style & history, so it's launch timing really isn't that useful for comparisons.

As for when will MWO go to Steam: once new player experience and Castle Wars are sorted out, as any earlier would be suicidal.

But is not like Elite has been completly integrated on Steam , just to buy it but no achivements or cards. People on forums are crazy asking for keys to add the game to their librarys.

P.D: Where can i buy a Vulture?

New IP? Hawken did not add anything new. CoD in Mechs.

The thing is: MWO will not lose it's die hard battletech fans when releasing on steam. If MWO live on Steam it will go just as well as it is going now, minus the revenue that Steam gets.

The thing that MWO can get is a whole lot of people who aren't familiar with Mechwarrior to test this game and maybe stay. One of the reasons this game doesn't get new players, besides the hard beginning for new players, is the lack of advertisment. No gamingsite is talking about MWO and it is a generally unknown game.

And btw: Hawken didn't die because of Steam. Steam was only the last straw for Hawken to survive.
MWO isn't dying anytime soon because the playerbase has an unusual high amount of paying customers.

Exactly, MWO is solid enough, but not growing much. Hawken was never going anywhere. The thing is for MWO to be compelling outside of the MW and BT scene it needs to really nail the issues that new players won't forgive. See the ED reviews as an example. Noobs come in and are so lost they hate the experience. That's worse than staying off steam.

When? Hopefully no time soon. The game is not ready, and you get ONE chance at a successful Steam launch.

New player experience especially is far from ready for the spotlight.

I bet they'll put it on Steam after 99 more identical threads are opened asking the same question!

Hawken was already dead before that. It was rushed to be dumped on Steam so that the investor could milk it for some cash before it dies out completely.
