Greetings UrbanMechWarriors,

As you well know, the UrbanMech finally releases tomorrow with all of its awesome content. Did you check out our "11 Days of Urbie" post? We’re really excited about this release, and we know that many of you are as well. The creation of the UrbanMech has been a lot of fun for us, and we really think you’ll all have great fun piloting it.

However, as we drew closer to the release of the Urbie we realized a potential issue with the upgrade path we had originally envisioned, in cases where players were upgrading from an existing Standard UrbanMech Pack to a Collector’s Pack.

Under the original system we had outlined, players who upgraded after the April 7th delivery date would actually end up with the Standard Variant UM-R63 as well as the Special Variant UM-R63{S}.
This upgrade path would actually leave Standard-to-Collector upgraders with four Variants in total, instead of the three that come with the Collector’s Pack.
The Standard Variant UM-R63 would then need to be removed from the player account and replaced with the Special Variant UM-R63{S} after those players made the upgrade, in order to make things fair for those players who had purchased the Collector’s Pack outright.

After talking it over we figured we could just avoid all that confusing mess and give all Collector’s Pack owners the Standard Variant UM-R63 as well, and leave everything else as-is! So that’s what we’re doing.

So this is how it breaks down:
  • The Collector’s pack will now include all four UrbanMech Variants (along with four MechBays): the UM-R63, UM-R63{S}, UM-R60, and the UM-R60L.
  • The Standard pack will still include just the three standard UrbanMech Variants (along with three MechBays): UM-R63, UM-R60, and the UM-R60L.
  • Upgrading from the Standard Pack to the Collector’s Pack will get you all four UrbanMech Variants (along with four MechBays): the UM-R63, UM-R63{S}, UM-R60, and the UM-R60L.

The UrbanMech pre-order page will reflect all these changes tomorrow, but in the meantime feel free to purchase or upgrade to the UrbanMech Collector’s Pack with this knowledge tucked safely in your mind. Of course, if you've already purchased an UrbanMech Collector's Pack you'll automatically receive the Standard UM-R63 Variant, no fuss, no muss.

Stay calm and Urbie on.
- The ‘MechWarrior Team

Good work. Simple, easy, quick, and functional. I believe this is the correct decision. Collectors that don't want the standard UM-R63 can just sell it and keep the c-bill boost variant.

I'd had the same thought, but I don't know that I'd actually do it unless either my entire team did the same or I could do it somehow anonymously...

Question. When is the latest time I can upgrade?

I want to know if I can upgrade after it's released.

Big round of applause for proving you're willing to fix things as soon as a problem is identified instead of waiting till it blows up and the forums melt. I always knew you had it in you.

I played the upgrade scenario in my head and wondered wtf you were going to do. Not allow upgrades? Didn't seem likely. Now it all makes sense and the world is right again.

No forum QQ necessary!

Edit:
I should say "...instead of waiting long enough for people to accuse you of sitting on your asses until the forums melt before you deign to do anything"

Timing is everything :)

Edit 2:
Just realized what they are going to accuse you of now:

Intentionally introducing the issue so that you can magically come up with this great solution to garner some goodwill that you can then exploit into a money-grab-into-close-the-servers-down-and-walk-away-with-everyone's-money scam.

Even though PGI did something cool someone is still going to find a way to get upset and *****, that's all I'm here for, so I can laugh at angry children.

*Sees someone's mechbay with not 3, but 4 Urbanmechs.*

*Opens the hatch to his armor and uses the hand actuator to remove the cigar from his mouth to discard it.*

Phenomenal move, PGI. Very classy and exceptionally generous!

On a side note, I think the Urbanmech will be the ONLY mech I ever keep multiple copies of a single variant for . . . and that's saying something considering I don't even have any clone variants of my favorite mech of all time, the Firestarter (seriously, been my favorite chassis since I started playing Battletech in the late 80's), and returned the extra set of (L) mechs we got when that option was available.
